I was thinking about this the other day...
99.9% of the time, members of SBG tell people that are on the fence "Just shave it, you'll look so much better". While I agree in most cases that sly is a good alternative, I was wondering if anyone can think of instances where someone looks better with coverage (usually just around the sides of the head)? I can think of one guy that I can't imagine sly but still looks good with MBP.... Sean Connery (well, two if you count Robmeister O:O).
In my case, I'm blessed with incredible good looks ;D and a nicely shaped head. For a while, I wasn't sure that going sly was the best for me, mainly because of the fact The Lovely Mrs. Schro doesn't like the sly look on me. In all honesty, I don't think a #1 buzz cut on me looks much different than going sly (seriously). However, since I get relief from the painful itching of seborrheic dermatitis by going sly, I'm staying sly.
What say you?

Some can carry the "rim" off, Mitch Pileggi, who played Walter Skinner in the X-Files, comes to mind. I think the look only works for guys who are profoundly bald and in pretty good shape. Guys who aren't profoundly bald, and worse sport a combover, Patrick Buchanan, comes to mind, really shouldn't come on screen without a public warning IMO. His hair--if you can use that exaggeration--looks bad to the point of pathetic and sadly comic.
On the whole, sly is the easiest to carry off for most guys w/ mpb, at whatever stage and at whatever age.

No combover is a given.
Appearance is more than just how you wear your hair (or non-hair). SLY embodies confidence. Carrying a combover implies you're hiding something, thus (IMO) lacking confidence.
Nice post, Saint!

I have a bass player that I jam with. He's gonna be a grandfather at age 48 and is basically one handsome middle-age dude. He ain't got any MPB going that I can tell and looks great the way he is.....(yeah, I might have a little crush on him).
But now that I think of it, my bruther Schro may have been asking about those who ARE balding, but may look better without a full scrape.
Me? I'm even better looking than Schro. I've got an area about the diameter of a regulation softball that's fairly thin just rear of the top of my head. I love to scrape it and I look good growing it back in. It's my boyish facial features that drive the women nuts regardless of what I do with my hair O:O

I'm glad that I don't have the blessing of being good looking. It must be exhausting carrying those big egos around! ;)
When you're ugly, like me, anything you do to your appearance is considered an upgrade by the surrounding world..........
