Title: Postcards from the frozen tundras of South Jersey

This is what 17" of global warming looks like (on top of last weekend's 25" of global warming):

That's exactly how it looks here in the south subs of Chicago.  I've had to shovel 7 times in the last 2 days.

South Shore(Nassau COunty), Long Island we got the light side of a foot.....further east on the South Shore (suffolk) they got 18 inches. We were lucky once again and my golf game will be delayed.

Awesome, but I'd think after a couple of days you'd really get a bad case of cabin fever!  Do they plow the streets so you can get around or are you just stuck w/ the sled and dog teams?

There's another front going over the South today,, and it's going to move up the east coast so I don't think you have much relief in sight.

Tropical Long Island can't contend with Arctic South Jersey.  But here's my beach this morning at quarter of three, showing some evidence of a previous try at coping.  Day has come and it's clear that it's time for a drink with a little umbrella in it before I put on my jams and wax the board.

My heart goes out to all of you.  I'm worried as to the flooding that might occur when this stuff melts.  Can't be good!  From the looks of things you won't have to worry until about July.  Are you listening Mr. Gore?

We might get an inch here in East Texas and everyone is so excited you'd think Santa was really coming. Looking at that though, I'll be glad to have the usual melts as it hits the ground variety.

Cabin fever is right.  It's one thing to not want to go anywhere on a particular day, but knowing that you can't is a little disconcerting.

Yes, the roads are all plowed now.  I have a bone to pick with whomever was plowing my street.  Every time the damn plow came by, it blocked off the bottom of my driveway with more snow.  I was out there several times yesterday trying to keep it clear.  The plow came by one more time around 9:00 pm and plowed me in again.   :Xo! :Xo!  And of course it was like solid concrete by morning.    You can see the huge chunks of snow along the bottom of the driveway in one of the photos I posted.

There are about 54 inches of global warming on the ground here in South Central Pa.. They haven't even plowed us out yet. We'll be lucky to get out by tomorrow.

I hate to throw gas on the fire but my weather sources tell me that the storm coming on Monday could also be more than just a dusting for the areas already hardest hit. My weather sources have not been wrong even once this Winter.

Meltdown should be slow because temperatures are staying pretty cold. We have snow stacked up 12 feet and higher in some places. There will be snow on the ground here until April.

I've hear the same :( AND it is coming from the south. The ones that come from that direction are usually strong/heavy.

Well, all that snow, ice, wind, drifts, etc., etc., is one of the main reasons NOT to be there or in our snow packed area in downstate Illinois in February.  Warm and sunny in Kihei, and the surrounding area.  Take a look at my AV, doesn't look like snow to me.  And the wife and I will be 'enduring' another day of no snow again, in an hour or two.
Sorry about that.

If it is the low pressure system just off shore on the Gulf, it's carrying a lot of snow north of New Orleans but so far limited rain, but so far just in the 40s & 50s and damp.  Some predictitons have it going up the Atlantic coast and causing a lot of precip in the form of snow.  Snow is predicted further inland.  Hopefully it won't stop the parades, three tonight, before it pulls out.  This seems to be the last one at least until Ash Wednesday.  Throw me something Mister.  Hey Lady, show me your t_ts! [that's a common form of Pre-Lenten greeting in New Orleans.  I may have to wear a coat for the parades tonight, provided it doesn't rain out.   >:D

You gotta stock up on those beads Saint.

Because of the anticipated bad weather from the new low coming off the Gulf they canceled all the Carnival parades in Orleans Parish tonight, I don't know if Jefferson Parish will roll >:(.  Now they're going to run four parades tomorrow night--if it doesn't rain.  This is really a mess.  Sleet is expected, and freezing rain causes trouble here because there aren't any trucks to spread sand and de-icing materials--so the City just stops until it warms up.  I'm going to take some of my own suggestion and have a nice toddy, dinner and early to bed.  But if the rain/sleet doesn't materialize, I'm going to be pissed :Xo!

in my 38 yrs as a  Southern Californian I never remembered it being humid..hmmm, the last 3 summers were unbearable...

let's redefine then....

it's "climate change".. just coming a bit faster than normal

Gotta' disagree with you on this one BA.... last Summer was a nice comfortable Summer in these parts. I remember back to when I was a kid.... Wiinters were a lot more harsh than they are now..... they were a lot more like the one we are having now.

I'm a believer that it's all cyclical. The Earth heats, the earth cools.... real scientific facts support this... not like the conjured up "facts" that one of the leading scientists on the global warming team just got busted for......

True...thought I'd throw that out there, I never like to talk bout that stuff....but you always get nah-sayers...

always...

the same types of arguments happened in the turn of the century when folks started talking about persevering  forest lands..at that point it was WHY...we have ALL this unused land...every generation...glad some really fought for that....

Snow in Dallas...

Haha!  Close but no cigar, Dallas is three hours north of me Tyler.  It's been down to the mid 30's but no snow here.  In a month we'll be wearing short sleeves.

The people on the news in NY and Atlanta (CNN) saying "Oh Lord, it's so crazy that there's snow in Texas!" apparently don't realize how big the state is.  North Texas (DFW area) gets an abbreviated version of those OK winter mix onslaughts, and the panhandle borders Kansas and Colorado so it gets plenty of cold.  .

I think you are consciously or unconsciously advocating the Gaia Hypothesis, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaia_hypothesis, an interesting idea that, along with all others deserves serious examination.  It's far too early in the discussion to close off any avenue of investigation and all should consider all the concepts regarding weather and man's effect on it.

If we have excessive snow, it's attribtuable to global warming. If we have less than average snowfall, it's because of global warming. Our esteemed senator, Barbara Boxer  !*u%e (among others) has been quoted saying both in the last 2 years.

I'm with Mike on this (as I apaprently am on many issues...except Jimmy Buffett). The earth cools, the earth warms. How do you explain ice ages and droughts before man? I don't think man made global warming killed the dinosaurs.

San Antonio would be 4 and a half to 5 hours south of Dallas.  I never thought I would be an ambassador to Texas, as I am not from here.  I've never driven from Dallas to Houston, but probably 3 hrs or alittle more.

But just a word to the wise, if you're ever in Central Texas and refer to Austin as a suburb of Dallas, you may just get your ass kicked.

It's more of a "you will get your ass kicked" and I knew you were in Austin, but couldn't resist posting that snow in Dallas since it was very timely.

The snow in Dallas even affected me since I was supposed to go to the Pebble Beach Pro-am on Thursday with my dad, but he got stuck in Dallas and didn't make it to CA until 6 pm.  We still had a great time the other days.
