I recently purchased Unforgiven on blu-ray from Amazon for $8.99. I just happened to notice that they're taking pre-orders for an apparently different version of it for $14.99. The artwork is different, and the aspect ratios are different (2:40:1 on the first version, 1:77:1 for the new one), and the new version is rated PG-13 while the old version was rated R.
They don't really spell out what the differences between the two releases are. I'm just curious; was there a second, sanitized version of the film released? There wasn't anything terribly objectionable in the original. The only other thing I can think of is that perhaps the new version was released without letterboxing, since the aspect ratios are different, though this may be a mistake on Amazon's part.
This is the version I bought:

This is the version that is coming out in February:

Anybody know? ??? ???

It might be the letterboxing but I notice the original version is rated R but the newer version is PG13.

I think that must be a mistake on Amazon's part.

I would buy the version that is listed as rated R and with a ratio of 2.40.1 as this is the original production version of the film according to IMDB.

That's what I did -- by pure luck because that was the first one I saw. I'm just wondering what the new version is and if the specs listed on Amazon are correct. I wrote and asked and pretty much got a "we don't know" answer.

The outhouse scene and the gunfight at the end were probably cut.

Now that is a movie! Love it.
