Title: prolonging blade life
Post by: Green 1 on January 23, 2010, 06:00:56 PM
In my quest to get more mileage out of my M5 blades, I think I may have stumbled onto something. There is a product from Sentry Solutions called Tuf Glide that I have used on my knives and retractable batons for years.
So this got me thinking, why not try it on my razor blades. From my knife experience I can tell you that after it is applied, it dries to a very light, non greasy film that is a corrosion inhibitor. It also seems to have mild cleaning characteristics. Where it really shines is the applicator, it allows you to apply a drop with pin point accuracy, which means no gettting it all over the lube strip (I have also used a Q-tip which seems to work).
Before trying this, I had been using Arm and Hammer shower cleaner, which works, but after a day or two the lube strip is gone.....no good. I will keep everyone posted as to how this is working for me.

I have been having good luck with this so far. I am able to get between 12-14 good shaves out of a blade (I shave every other day) and probably could get more, but I am using the M5 blades.....not too expensive so I chuck em when it starts to drag a little.

Might be worth a try - I'd love to go more than two shaves on one blade (Personna Auto Plus).  Yes - those are rather inexpensive blades, but I'm cheap.
