Title: halfway done - 15 of 30 days sly are over
Post by: baldaholic on January 15, 2010, 08:53:13 AM
Hey guys,

went sly into the new year and 15 days of the 30 days rule are over.

Looks like I might change my name to "all the timer" ;-) - we'll see

So far, I really like the smooth feel and little stubble in between and my environment is starting to get used to it as well.

You're not alone, lots of guys have discovered the same thing during the 30 day period.  You're moving to control mpb, and there's only more good things to come as you'll soon see.  Congrats. O0

Nice.  ;)  I've been sly for 6 days and I'm definitely not going back.  Even my sister, who was REALLY harsh about the new look, has come around and says she's gotten used to it.

Great news, enjoy the freedom.

Hi saintc,

actually I don't have severe mpb yet - just receeding temples and the hairline is a bit uneven and slightly thinning.
So I guess I am between bbc and mpb ;-)
Like the look and feel of it though, and it's definately not getting thicker as the years move on.

So, what do you think - should I still keep it?

You've gotten through the hard part.  Why turn back now?  If you've got some recession going, even if it's minor now, it will progress in the future.  Why watch it creep further and further back year after year?

Most of us approach MPB with the attitude, "I'll shave my head when I have to, but I'm going to hold onto my hair for as long as I can."  Don't fall into that trap.  For one thing, we almost always miscalculate when the time is "right".  By the time we recognize that it's time to shave, we're probably well past the point that it should have been done.  Secondly, if you keep your head shaved now, no one -- including you -- will know how much hair you do or don't have.  At some point the top of your dome will become shadow-free, but for several years leading up to that point, no one will be able to tell that it's thinning.

The one regret most sly guys share is not having done the deed sooner.  I really wish I'd started shaving about four or five years earlier than I did.  It would have saved me a lot of needless worry.

When my 30 day trial was over, I challenged myself to see if I could go another 60 days, and then I decided to see  if I could go another 90 after that.  See how long you can hold out.

You obviously understand the fact of mpb, time and hairline wait for no man.  Of course you should keep it--what's the real alternative, wait until you've got obvious profound baldness.  This way, although you'll continue to go more bald, just as I and others are doing now, no one will realize it because you're in front of it, in control of it.  There's too much living to do to let a receding hairline get in our way in any form or fashion.  Sly is the totally natural and healthy response.

I think it's helpful to go sly while it's still a choice -- and not because you "have to".

Thanx saintc and Razor X,

good points.

I'll probably keep it, cause I prefer to make my own choise, instead of have my hair make it for me.

So far, not many negative reactions.
I think, that is because many have seen me with a 0 buzz, and the different is more significant to me, than to others.

One negative reaction I am still expecting is of my parents, cause they have been on vacation.
They are always happy, when I let it grow a few milimeters. ;-)
But, like you are probably gonna say - it is my life and my choice, and afterall:
It's just a haircut or lack of it. :-)

Greatings Sometimer

Parents can be tough, but eventually they come around.  It's really not worth trying to appease them because you'll just be making yourself unhappy in the process.  It's easier in the long run to just stick to your guns and let them get used to it.

Well, they are parents and parents never really let go of the child.  However, they have known, and now must acknowledge, that notwithstanding their legitimate affection for you, you have the right to determine your hair length, or lack there of--it's just not their business anymore.  They'll survive--the tough stuff when you were an early teenager is past and if they survived that, they can survive and get beyond this.  I have two kids past twenty, so I know a little about this--letting kids be themsedlves is part of the process, and it's difficult to get used to.
