Title: Bald for 7 years and loving it!
Post by: Undercover on January 12, 2010, 09:00:46 PM
Hey guys,

I've actually been a member for a little while but I've been so busy I haven't had a chance to check things out, that is until today. I just launched my freelance multimedia career so I've been swamped with work and business stuff, time to have some fun!

I look forward to meeting other cue balls & seeing if I can finally find a way to get rid of that damn razor burn...

Cheers!

Great to have you on board, undercover. Welcome.   Check out the posts in the HeadShaving section for clues on reducing or eliminating that razor burn.   Most likely it is due to the fact that you are new to being sly.  As the skin toughens up, you won't burn so easily.  In the meantime, try and aloe vera gel.  Kept in the fridge it gives a cool and refreshing application to the skin.  Also be sure to do a cold water rinse after shaving to reduce irritation and close the pores.

Welcome here, Bro!

Glad you joined:

A propos razorburn: Use a good razor - Headblade - with fresh blades (tripple don't shave as close as doubles, but induce less irritations), a good lather - Headslick - , no pressure on the blades at all, a cold water rinse after shaving and a good moisturer - Headlube. Good luck and best wishes. Keep it smooth. O0

Hey guys,

Thanks for the welcome, I'm obviously in good company around here!

I actually didn't know that about the double blades, that's good information! When my headblade dies & I have no more cartriges I default back to the Gillette Fusion, but at nearly $20 million a blade, that gets a little pricey ;)

I think "Razor Burn" might not be the best term, because it isn't so much the burn as it is those nasty red blotches we all get around the sides and the back that don't really hurt but are just... THERE.

It doesn't happen all the time but I'll definitely be checking out the forums for advice ;) I like the cold aloe vera trick, I think I'm gonna try that! At the very least my dome will be more kissable...

LOL mangosink12572 , if it hasn't been done already I think you may have just come up with another thread!

There's a ton of posts on this problem from the guys that get it--RazorX added the possibility of allergic reaction to shaving products.  For me, astringent after shaving, washing the dome at least 2 times a day w/ Cuticura anti-bacterial soap--feels great too- and lastly, changing my pillowcase frequently.  Without hair to take up the stuff, I think that the pillowcase absorbs the oils and stuff that continue to come out of follicles on the scalp whether they are producing hair or not.  Keeping it clean, keeps it clear.

Hey Paul, I've actually been shaving for quite a while, but I have to admit I'm not as consistent as you guys, I tend to let it go for a few days at a time, (I work from home so I'm kind of out of the public eye most of the time) so when I DO shave I get that nasty blotchiness going on, but I'm going to take your advice and start shaving daily & see if that helps, I bet it does.

And just to reiterate, that cold aloe vera gel idea? FRIGGIN' GENIUS. Holy crap does that feel good on your bean after a hot shower and shave!

Hey Undercover, sweet profile pic!

1) I use a few drops of olive oil under my gel to minimize friction when I shave, and alittle bit of lotion afterwards. This minimizes burn or irritation.
2) Whenever I need blades (I use Mach3), I go on ebay and buy them in bulk, whenever you buy a billion gagillion of them it's a lot cheaper per piece.

Yeah that's one of the advantages of being a professional photographer, you can make anybody look good, even yourself  O0

The olive oil actually sounds like a good idea, I might just try that & see if it helps, maybe thats the issue is that I'm not getting enough lubrication going, it only ever happens on the sides of my head & I shave against the grain, so that might do the trick.

Plus now I want to see women's reactions when they use my bathroom & see a bottle of olive oil in the shower...  :/O

I think I might try some different blades too, see if that helps at all.

Great advice guys!

Onward!

Hey man, welcome! looks like you've already seen first hand what makes this site great. The guys here are awesome.

I know what you mean about gettin' a little lazy and going a few days between shaves. It is what it is. I work a bunch from home and do the same thing.

Enjoy the site buddy! Best group of cueballs around!
