Title: Hello from Republic Of Ireland
Post by: RossIreland89 on January 07, 2010, 07:44:51 PM
Hello everyone, My name is Ross and I am 20 from Ireland.

Don't know if this is the place to post but here goes.

I seem to be going bald, finding hair on pillow, a little bit coming out in the shower and I can notice it thinning on top, Farther is bald, other 3 brother's got full head of hair, kinda suck's but I guess its life.

Not going to lie, it's affected me bad for the past few months but I am getting over it day by day.

Here is a picture of my crown, I am looking down,I am pretty sure its a bald spot lurking it ugly head, confirmation would be appreciated hahaha

Not quite ready to shave it yet but I need to buzz it down as I am receeding at the front, sick of trying to hide it, sick of the comments.

Welcome to the forum, Ross. By the looks of it, you've got a long way to go before you really need to be worrying. But if a few ignorant comments are getting you down, then cut your hair short. Maybe a buzz cut or something. If you still want to go sly at that point, then you already know the right place to come for pointers on how to go about that. Good luck!  O0

Hey Ross

Well, I was 18 when my barber/ hairdresser commentented on the same thing with me for the first time.  It really upset me and made me more selfconcious.  Wel,  In my case, by 22 or so my hair started thinning & I started to buzz it.  Wore alot of hats & caps, but eventually got tired of it.  So, for about 6 months (I'm now 25)  I've been shaving it (BEST DECISION EVA!!).  My point is this, I agree with ozzie, IF your balding, you still have a long way to go.  But yes, buzzing it would be cool.  Either way, I always feel, do what makes you happiest.   People will get used to whatever hairstyle you decide on.

And, on a side note.  This forum helped me alot.  For me it helped to see other young blokes who were also balding and had the B a l l s to shave it all, and be confident and happy...  So always, feel free to ask or share whatever...

Welcome Ross.  I agree with the others.  It doesn't look bad at all.   But if you are concerned and getting unflattering comments then buzz it down shorter.   Last time I was in Ireland I saw quite a few buzzed and even sly guys.  So add one more and relieve yourself of the worry

Hello Ross and welcome!
Seems you've already made up your mind to take control over the situation. So I say don't waste any time and try the buzz cut, perhaps not so short at first, then go shorter step by step if you like. Good luck!

Hey Ross,

I noticed my hair was thinning about a year ago but didnt have the confidence to shave my head until 6 months ago.

My confidence was taking knocks and the thought of shaving my head was the worst thing i could think of. I had so many assuptions of how friends and family would react and how the female species would take to it. Hear are somethings that helped me prepair for the head shave and If you are considering it then they will definatly help you with positive thinking.

- Stastitically 90% of men have some kind of hair loss in their life
- Using hair groth drugs can lead to hormonal inballance and future health problems
- If i razored my head at the age of 21 I would be viewed some what as a trend setter as i was pretty sure that others would be doing it within the next few years.
- Its definatly in fashion at the moment e.g bruice willis, stone cold steve austin etc
- There is more to life than a fancy hair do.
- There are a good bunch of guys on this forum that rave about being bald, I was curious to see what the hype was about.
- Out of 8 of my close friends at least 4 were experiencing some hair loss and they are the same age as me.
- I can always grow the hair back.

The decision is down to you wheather you take the bull by the horns or just leave it for abit. If you Decide for the shave then a mac 3 is good or a headblade. If you decide to keep the hair and think your thinning out, VO5 reworks putty helps thicken up the hair look.

Since i shaved it id say im more cocky and confident than iv ever been in my life. oh and about the female thing - I had a date the other night and she was a hot! thats proof hot girls like bald guys lol.

Best of luck

Welcome to the group Ross. The only thing that I can add is to say again that you have to make you happy, nobody else.

Welcome, and the Sly Guys are right, if you do have mpb, it's at very, very early stages and nothing to sweat.  But it's nothing to sweat if it were far advanced anyway.  To get some idea of what the stages of male pattern baldness are Google up "Norwood Hamilton Scale" and you'll see the general patterns that mpb can take.

But right now, Sly for you is an alternative style of haircut or a buzz of whatever length too.  Try them or not--it's your complete choice and under your control.  Enjoy.

Welcome to the forum.

Like the others said, relax a bit.. and enjoy. You got some time yet. But if you're up for a change then buzz it short would be my recommendation.

Lots to enjoy on the site... have fun.

Welcome to SBG's forum Ross. I agree with the other guys and feel you have quite a ways to go before you see a larger mpb pattern. Looks like you still have a good head of hair, and that means you can experiment with different looks. Try the buzz cut on #2 and see how that fits you, from there you can gradually go lower. You have plenty of options.

Hey buddy. Glad you're feeling welcome. Tha'ts one of the best things about this site and the guys here!

I think the biggest thing that you can take from the comments here is just to not obsess about it. Some will always be able to see thinning, some won't. YOU yourself will be more aware than anyone else. The important thing is to not waste the time checking your pillow or the shower drain every morning or obsessing in front of the mirror each day. Just enjoy who you are and if you end up thinning faster, you'll be more grounded to deal with it than the other guy. Plus you'll be here, among friends.

Keep us updated, brother!

Peace

Ross, keep us up to date and let us know how we can help.  Like the others have said, it doesn't look like you have anything to worry about right now.  If you can't shake the worry, it might be time to try something different like buzzing your hair or even shaving it.

Ross,

Welcome

Based on your photo, you have no worries

However, if you do lose it, as I did in my late 20's,(alot older now) it takes some time, but shaving your head is truly cool and based on the reception I have received from woman of all ages, they think so too.

So, in the meantime, enjoy yourself and whatever you do, be true to your self.

steve
