Looking for some direction. Started losing it @19 and it's been a long painful 20 years. Finally had the courage to have my stylist take the back and sides down to a #2 with a little longer on my very thinning top. I love it short and want to go shorter soon - maybe a #1 before vacation. How do I "sell" this to the wife and should I let her do the deed?

Hi Larry! Welcome to the Forum!
If your wife will cut it for you, let her do it. Having her involved will help ease her into the transition of your new "style".
Look for the testimony by one of our newer members, PDXTODD, about his recent doing away with his hairpiece after many years. His testimony is all you will need to read to know that dealing with your hair loss isn't that big of a deal.
Please feel free to ask us any questions......... we're all here to support you in whatever decision you make.

Ask for forgiveness, not permission----unless she asks your permission to change the style of her hair. Otherwise, let the blade have it then, after 30 days, if you don't like it, most of it will grow back, everything that wasn't going to fall out anyway. Bet you one thing though, if you do go through with it you're going to really be wondering why you waited so long. O:O

Welcome to the forum, Larry. Just knock it back to a #1 first chance you get. Be cool. Act like it was no big thing. As saintc says, it'll grow back soon enough if it turns into a big deal on the home front. Which it most likely won't. Good luck! O0

I agree, go for the #1, maybe even this week. Chances are people wont notice it that much. Keep it at a #1 for a short bit then maybe a no gaurd or smooth. Or maybe just go smooth and like saintc says, ask for forgiveness later rather than permission.

Great first step! You're almost there...Next up, knock it down to a #1 (better yet, #000) length and say good bye to the stylist...you're just a few swipes with a good razor away from knowing if you like it slick or not!

hey rob
Sounds like you like the short look
If you are that close, go for the sly
If you don't like it (highly doubt it), you can gorw back what you can
Listen to the brothers
We all can't be wrong
Your wife won't be able to keep her hands off you
Let us know how it goes

Go for it and if the wife doesn't like it, blame it on the barber. And then get it cut the same length (or shorter) the next time and say that you've come to like it that way.

Great advice from the other brothers larry. Go for it. While we always care what loved ones think, it is our head, our decision.
-
Take it all off - - - -it is wonderful - - - -look at all of us - - - - - I took it off at once and I was a #2

I agree with the rest of the bro's larry, go for it. Ultimately it's your head, your life, and you get to choose how you want to look. Give it a shot, I'm sure you'll love it. O0

How do I "sell" this to the wife?
"We're a generation of men raised by women....."
Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt)/Fight Club
All I can say here is the idea of "selling this to the wife" sounds like an underhanded way of asking for permission. It's kinda like "honey, if you'll let me cut my hair the way I want it I'll do the dishes for a whole week". Take back your balls, brother, cut your hair your way. I don't think that counts as irreconcilable differences.
I'm going to start a new thread in this section so as not to hijack this one. Look for something with "men" in the title.

There's not much difference between a #2 and #1 once people are over the shock of you first buzzing your hair, especially if you're already balding. Then from #1 to #0 to smooth barely registers with people as they honestly already think of you as bald/balding.
The only person stopping you is, well, you. :)

just do it. Follow what the bro's here say. You gotta do it for YOU and no one else. 8)
