I have looked at most guys in the gallery and the ones with the shine on their dome get the most attention - -I have a shine on my dome and believe me, I get attention where ever I go - - How about you ? I really like the shiny dome
-
I don't care much for the attention but I love the natural shine of my dome.
-
I too prefer the super shiny. During Christmas, I was told that everyone had to shoot pictures at a different angle--too shiny! lol
-
Shine is good, really good.
-
I agree, shine is good,
What some of the thinkgs everyone use to make it shine? Always interested in making something good, better.
I use a light oil, Neutrogena Body oil is about the best I think, and sometimes I'll combine that with Keri Body Lotion.
-
The shinier the better.
-
Shine..... all natural variety...........
-
Yep. All I need to do is...um...not wash my head every 6 hours or so! Pow! Insta-gloss!
-
luv the shine! The shinier the better! 8)
-
Yep..... it has to really shine! O0
-
Used to think the shine was too over the top. But, no doubt; I love to shine!
-
I used to love the shine and still like it but now also like a matte look. O:O
-
Shiny, shiny, shiny! Love it! Yes, I do get a lot of attention too. I went to an interview the other day and while I was waiting a guy walked by and said to me, "That is one nice shiny head. Looking good!" He was sly also.
The ladies at the convenience store where I buy gas, always compliment me on my shiny head.
-
I gotta have the shine! When its warm out I get a better shine it seems but still get a great shine in this cold weather. Mine is natural. Everyonce in awhile when I put on some aftershave it makes it look great too.
-
I like the shine. Except when it is extreme mirror-like :D. I'd like to be able to control it more.
-
Shine is Fine! I use Headlube Glossy
-
The shine occurs naturally for me. But there are times I like to use HeadLube Glossy! I love the shine!
-
Ok, I'll be the odd one out. I like it matt. Because where I live its quite (ok, actually VERY) warm, so irronically, I usually have a shine. So, I don't know if this is the right thread to ask, but how do I get a more matted look?

Although I like shine--I too live in a very hot climate, and humid,--but I find that Curel lotion moisturizer that I rub on the scalp before going to the gym in the morning tones down the shine somewhat, as does Gold Bond. My purpose is to make sure I keep the scalp in good condition. Then I shave after working out, and I'm after shine then. You could try those, but in the heat and humidity, I don't know anything that will prevent a great shine from developing by the end of the day. Short of "powder" I'm not sure if anything works in the tropical and sub-tropical climates unless you're naturally matte.
-
I am in a bar every night having my Bombay Saphire Martini - - - -one night last week the bar tender (who I know) said - - Richard bend your head down - -I want to comb my hair - - - - - -The shine was there and it is natural
-
Love it smooth and shiny! O:O
I use HeadLube Glossy with a few drops of Shave Secret added for good measure.
-
For several years, I had been buzzing my full head of hair. Gradually going from a #3 guard to a #1. A few months back, I found a Wahl trimmer with a #1/2 guard which buzzed me down to 1/16". It surprised me that my head actually shines when using the #1/2 guard. Guys at work have mentioned that my head shines now. I like the look of a shiny head. When I get up enough nerve, I will go all the way and shave it clean.
My wife initially complained about my #2 and #1 buzzcuts. She must be getting used to the short hair, because she has not complained for a long time. When she first noticed the 1/16" buzz, she said, "Your hair is so short now, you might as well shave your head".
-
When she first noticed the 1/16" buzz, she said, "Your hair is so short now, you might as well shave your head".
Exactly. So what are you waiting for? I don't know how anyone can go that short and resist the urge to take it all off. It will only take 3 or 4 days to grow back to a 1/16". Most people won't even notice the difference, but you will love the way it feels.
-
Yeah - go for it, Jimbo!
-
When she first noticed the 1/16" buzz, she said, "Your hair is so short now, you might as well shave your head".
Well, when it comes to hair, it's always your personal choice, but your wife is giving you excellent advice, what's your reason for not shaving this morning? :/O
-
Jinbo - - -Go for it - - -you will enjoy it - - -it feels great after a shave - - -smooth - -like nothing else
-
I would suggest listening to the misses... Just shave it. AND trust me, that first shave is amazing. The slight resistance from your hair to the raizor... For me it just felt GoooooooD ^-^ Go for it!!

Not only that, but it's much easier to shave your head every day than it is to try and maintain a 1/16" buzz. You'd have to buzz your hair every other day to keep it at that length. I went through a phase when I decided to buzz instead of shave; I didn't even last a week, because the clippers are just a pain to use, there's more mess to clean up, etc. Just take it down to the skin.
-
Thanks for the advice and encouragement. Now that I think about it, the wife did leave the door open for me to shave it off. At work, another head shaver (many shaved heads there) said the same thing to me, "Your hair is so short, why don't you go all the way?"
One thing holds me back. I am not sure what type of razor to use. I'm afraid it would be a bloody mess because I bleed easily when I shave my face. For that reason, I have a full beard.

Use a good quality razor like a Fusion (the razor of choice for most around here) and some good quality shaving gel. If you prep properly -- get your scalp good and wet beforehand and take your time, you shouldn't nick or cut yourself. The skin on the scalp is more taut than your face, so it's actually easier to shave than you think.

Read the information on How to Shave Your Head. Cut it as short as possible, no guard, shower, a little baby oil or shave secret, your shave creme or gel and a NEW blade--I started w/ Fusion, very hard to nick I found, and SLOWLY--it's a new skill--it won't take long to learn and the process will get much faster--But Slow at FIrst. Rinse, some after shave Balm, Nivea Extreme is my choice--Result, smooth, clean and Freedom.

Thanks for the input. I was wondering how my beard would look with a shaved head. After looking at saintc's photo, there is nothing for me to worry about. Looks good, saintc.

Looks good, saintc.
Thanks, post up a picture for the guys to see. Enjoy--you're going to get a rush of freedom that is just unforgettable.

Where do you get HeadLube?
-
Where do you get HeadLube?
You should be able to find it at Walgreens (sometimes at CVS). Barring that it's always available at the HeadBlade site (www.headblade.com (http://www.headblade.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=HB&Product_Code=10700-4&Category_Code=headcare&AFFIL=SkE09)). It comes in Matte and Glossy.

I miss CVS so much! We only have Walgreens and RiteAid here.

CVS has invaded us here. You can be standing online at one CVS...and see the door to another one.

Bubba,
Take the 170 mile drive to Missoula and you will find a CVS!
-
Woof!
"The more hair I lose...the more head I get!"
Love that quote!! ROTFL at that one!

I havent seen a CVS here. For my headlube I drive all the way to Walgreens in CdA, basically close to an hours drive just for a bottle of it.
I figured out a comparison. A head without shine is like a twinkie with no filling, just not the same
-
I wish we could share a CVS with you - -Where I live they are building a new larger CVS one mile from the new larger CVS they built 2 years ago - - - -
-

With the Sly Bald Guys 20% discount, ordering on line is the cheapest way to go! That's how I get all my HeadBlade products. O0
-
I havent seen a CVS here...
We've got one on just about every other corner ! CVS and Walgreen's seem to monopolize this area.

We have to use CVS since they bought out Eckert's, and it has not been an improvement, nor was RiteAid's purchase of our local legend, K & B. Basically, I really don't like "national" brands/franchises, they don't respond to local needs, and certainly haven't recognized the power of Sly. I do a lot of my shopping for such stuff at a local non-franchised store that at least matches for beats even the big box WalMart for price and every one of the chains for selection. One problem is that my cherished HS is getting harder and harder to find. It's a really mean and tough market out there for niche products, although considering the number of clean smooth domes we all see we're beyond niche by my definition--but the vendors and manufacturers have failed to open their eyes to the fact of our shining domes.

These stores are also being hurt by on-line shopping; with overnight / priority shipping, why drive to a drugstore. I read an article on cnn.com (was it today?) about a town in Texas (Laredo ?) losing their last bookstore. One of the reasons cited: on-line shopping (along with competition from mass merchandisers). I have a feeling pharmacies are feeling the same pinch. Since they buy in bulk, items may sell in one area and not others. Why stock for certain markets ... stock for the whole chain. Not saying I agree, but it's a fact.
-
Another product that is hard to find these days is round shaving mug soap. I used to buy it at Walmart and CVS. Neither of these stores in my neighborhood carry it now. I did find it at Walgreens.

WOW I HATE REPEAT HATE the shine and am totally amazed by you guys?? Do you like a woman's face shinny? I seriously doubt it and the six head is just an extension of the forehead! I think it looks rediculous to walk around with a bright shinny head and much more suttle and cool to have a tan matte finish.
To each his own no doubt but you can KEEP THE SHINE to yourself in my book cause it looks :*)) :*))

Shine on... Shine on... Harvest moon :*))

Whats it got to do with you, a first time poster anyway? And no pic to even show us what this great matt head looks like?
I LOVE to shine: but then, I like to be noticed! 8)

Hi Rob and Noodles - - -I am with the both of you - - -Love the shine as most of us do

I don't understand this post at all. What's "shinny" got to do with the price of potatoes? ??? ??? ???
Shinny (also shinney) is an informal type of hockey played on ice or the street. There are no formal rules or specific positions, and generally, there are no goaltenders. The goal areas at each end may be marked by nets, or simply by objects, such as blocks of snow, stones, etc. Bodychecking and lifting or "roofing/reefing/raising the puck" (shooting the puck or ball so it rises above the ice) are often forbidden because the players are not wearing protective equipment. It may also be called pick-up hockey, pond hockey, street hockey, road hockey, or "outdoor puck". Shinny is a game that all levels of hockey enthusiasts can play because it requires no rink, requires no skills except ability to hold a stick and at the very least to try to touch the puck or ball when it goes by. Shinny may be completely non-competitive and recreational - scoring irrelevant - or competitive and scores kept.

Beemrr.... Lets start off with at least an a introduction on your self before you start with the criticism .
-
much more suttle
You may be many things, but subtle you're most definately not. For you not standing out is probably a reasonable choice. >:D

I prefer the matte look on myself, but see a lot of sly guys pulling off the shiny look and really rocking it. Maybe it's because I have very dark hair (just not a lot of it) and my shadow is a natural predator of the shine?....
You know what - I'll give the shiny look an honest try tomorrow... why not! 8)

I find that shine reduces the appearance of shadow more than matte.
-
beemrr - 5 minutes online and only one post - yeah, tell me more...
-
A shine is fun becasue you can keep or lose it depending on your mood. I think it helps hide imperfections and any shadow. I have a darker shadow so I like the shine. Many bald guys shine naturally even if they dont shave. What is fun is to see how shiny I can make it. I may try carwax next.
-
could always go with make up and foundation with a oil base. :*))
-
Has anyone said baby oil yet to make it shine? haha heard about it awhile ago and tend to use that when i'm hitting the town or have a special event to make the dome shine ;)

I too have dark hair, but I still have a great shine (though it aint visible in my avatar pic! - see the photo below) I don't actually do anything to promote it, except put a little moisturiser on after i shave, but its shiny all the time, and that's my personal preference O0
-
Touch of Head Blade "Glossy" from time to time; otherwise, what sunlight and the razor produce.
-
My head shines, whether I want it to or not. I give it no thought at all.
-
As promised, I went with the shine today. The lighting in the pic doesn't show it off well, but I actually got it pretty reflective:
(https://www.slybaldguys.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Flh3.ggpht.com%2F_-_9eSedEXW4%2FTKaxjSuf8UI%2FAAAAAAAAEo4%2FKXZ6J78hEKE%2Fs144%2F2.jpg&hash=913a6aa50772b1c85599d88a3839e9eaf6de70dd)
Followed my usual routine, but then washed my dome with a body wash that had (accidentally) turned up the shine factor previously, then rinsed with cold Cold COLD water and ended with Bald Guyz moisturizer (instead of my typical Headblade Matte). It's a different look for sure. I'll probably stick with matte but keep this in my arsenal... good to have options. Certainly won't be the last time I go shiny!
-
I find that a shine helps camouflage any nicks or blemishes that might be present on the dome at any given time. Has anyone else noticed this?
-
do you like a woman's face shinny?
suttle?
I say Shine on!
Hey jerky, you need to work on your spelling. What kind of first post is this anyway?

Yep. All I need to do is...um...not wash my head every 6 hours or so! Pow! Insta-gloss!
Same here, I would rather have shine than oil though.

-

well anything to reduce the oils of the head there is witch hazel and then there is Head shed, wipes and matte moisturizer all from HB.
-
Witch hazel is good for producing a great shine also. To get my head to really shine, I rinse it with very cold water, pat it dry and apply witch hazel. It shines like glass.
-
I have to say I have been looking for something to use to shine my head with, I am very excited about trying out the headlube glossy! I think the shinier the better, I am bald and proud so I want to shine.
-
yo to all, the shine sux ass. period. It may shine on the scalp where no hair grows part of where it is hairless but thats it. The rest of my hair grows hard and thick. SO the only part that shines through is the frontal area n that sux sh*t lemme tell ya to each his own but i prefer no shine anybody out there with a good non shine prudct let me know. :(

that their is one of the very few who looks good when they shine no homo. but really you own that shine some guys like myself just dont look right.
-
I don't attempt to make my dome any more shiny than it naturally is...
-
the shinier the better :@`
-
I don't attempt to make my dome any more shiny than it naturally is...
Same here. I don't get shiny, I get oily.
-
Same here. I don't mind a shiny head, but I seem to get an oily head.
-
The best product i have found to produce a glass like shine is double strengh aloe vera gell, it is far superior to headllube glossy, or any other product i have used, ie ,bald guys moisturising gell, baby oil, mineral oil, or any balms. just use a small blob, apply to head, rub in, but leave it to dry naturaly, result, blinding shine all day :@` :@` :@`
-
I love having a good shine on my dome. I have had some compliments on it.
-
I too love a really shiny dome. I find that aloe vera gel gives an even better shine than Headlube Glossy.
