Title: Looking for a new blu-ray player
Post by: Razor X on December 27, 2009, 07:24:55 PM
I'm thinking about getting a  blu-ray player for my bedroom, now that the prices have dropped so dramatically.  I watch a lot of programs that I download from the internet as .avi files burned to discs, which play on the upscaling DVD player that I currently have in the bedroom.  Does anyone know of any blu-ray players that will play .avi files?  The blu-ray player in my living room will not.

The only Blu-ray player that I can find that actually mentions that it supports AVI is the Playstation 3.  Which also happens to be the best Blu-ray player on the market.

A friend of mine owns a company that installs and sells high-end a/v systems in homes and businesses.  He continues to say that the PS 3 is the way to go for blu-ray.

Yeah, my friends that do really high end A/V installations tell me that it's the only Blu-ray player they install.  They used to only recommend the Samsung if people wanted Netflix and Pandora also, but you can now do both of those on the PS3 also.

If you have a best buy near you--the insignia (best buy branded players) get good reviews, prices and the newer one is internet ready and I believe plays AVIs..

I have a home theater with a 720p projector, 90" screen, blu-ray, hd-dvd, cable, and region free dvd all hooked up :) 7.1 sound :)
