Thanks

Steve-

Go to your local Wally World and get a set of clippers for about $20 or so. Mine has an attachment that you can adjust how close to trim.

I have a Conair that runs on two AA batteries. It's almost 6 years old and starting to freeze on me. Not bad for $20 though.

Lots of brands, I have a Wahl, it was my Father's.  Nice thing, when I decided to grow out the chin area to 1" I was able to go and buy a 1" guide to add to the four that came with the set but stopped at 1/2".

Just remember, the beard takes 3 months at least to mature--i.e. let all the hairs come into play even the ones that are in the dormant cycle when you start, and as long as 6-8 months depending on your genes.  Shaving, 10 minutes to sly, a beard, well 3 months at least until you begin to get an idea of what's really there.  Go with it--remember this is all for you primarily.  If anyone else, wife, gf, etc. get off on it, fine, but it is for you.

We probably have the same one.  I'm thinking of adding a new one to the Christmas list since mine is starting to slow down on me.  Like you, I'm satisfied with it working for roughly 6 years for around $20.
