so as some of you know I am into the heavy metal styles of music but am also really into certain "hip-hop" not the junk you hear on the radio but more underground and older stuff like Afu-Ra, Big L, Gang Starr, Big Punisher, etc. just wondering what you all are into.
-
Well....... I'm not into Hip-Hop at all and I've never even heard of any of those guys you mentioned!!!!! :*))
I like a bit of classic rock, some of the new more alternative non-commercial stuff...... and most of all blues. I just love blues..... plain and simple..... to me it's the best.
-
Hmmm, I thought this was going to be about music, and then hip-hop gets mentioned. >:D
Classic rock, for me.
-
can you add sum band names? im lookin to expand my musical collection, in all truth I really like a lot of different music variety is key, Johhny Cash, Boston, Creedance clearwater revival, AC/DC, Alan Jackson, Dead Kennedys, Jimi Hendrix
-
I'm into industrial myself. Like Skinny Puppy and Front Line Assembly.
-
I'm into Funk and Jazz Fusion. Some of my favorites are: Maceo Parker, Tower of Power, Dave Weckl Band, Chick Corea Electric Band, The Brand New Heavies, Deep Banana Blackout, James Brown ....
-
I've always listened to classic rock like Pink Floyd, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rolling Stones, etc., etc. I seem to be gravitating toward more metal (heavy & thrash) and alternative as I get older: Pantera, Slayer, Metallica, Black Sabbath, Ozzy, Godsmack, Seether.
-
Country/Western not to be confused with Country Pop.
-
New Orleans R & B, such as Irma Thomas, newer style Cowboy Mouth, Radiators,
Old Time Rock & Roll, Fats Domino, Dave Barthlomew
Traditional New Orleans Brass Jazz Bands, Olympia Brass Band, Last Straws, Sweet Emma
Louisiana/Cajun Country, Marcia Ball,
Hip Hop, not at all, and as my Minnesota cousin said, Rap, "It's a word spelled w/ a silent C!" >:D
-
...Dave Weckl Band....
Dude! Does that guy wanna make you quit or what?
As soon as I feel like I'm cleaning up my chops I listen to Weckl and make a big "L" on my forehead....
It's a love/hate thing listening to Weckl!!!

If any of you are fans of good ol' roadhouse style blues guitar give a listen to Johnny Winter. I didn't like him when he teamed up with his brother, Edgar, back around '80 because they tried to go more mainstream and they sounded just like everybody else at that point. A couple of his joints like "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl" and "Meantown Blues" can really get a person to rockin'. He also had Rick Derringer playing with him for a while and they way the two of them would square off riffin' was magic. Check out "Johnny Winter And" which is live on one side (great) and studio on the back (good but not great). He's one of my favorites for road trips.
Metal for working out, also some punk like Sick of it All's "Death to Tyrants.
-
I have fairly eclectic tastes in music, but I do favor 80s music and a capella and show tunes.
What I don't like is the old-school country music (the "big hair" era and earlier), or rap music (the early rap of the 80s was ok and had merit, but the newer stuff seems little more than rhythmic swearing, porn and violence...
-
Folk metal, industrial, REAL country (but especially outlaw country)
-
Monteverdi, Bach, Beethoven, Schubert, Wagner, Dvorak, Tchaikovsky, Delius, Williams, Stravinski, REM, ELO, Moody Blues, Beach Boys, Lyle Lovett, Kate Bush, Philip Glass, John Adams, Pet Shop Boys, Pat Benatar, Pink Floyd, Fiona Apple, Lady Gaga. Just a selection, of course.
-
Mainly metal - all time fave is Rush, also into the Screamin' Cheetah Wheelies, as of late. KISS, and most of the 70's hair bands. Stevie Ray Vaughan, Skynyrd, .38 Special, Molly Hatchet. Also, the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Pretty much anything with a driving beat and outrageous guitar work. I even have a few country songs in my collection, but I am very picky about that. Also very much love the Motown sound...just about anything in that era. So... anything from the 60's to today, except grunge rock. No "Hip hop" or rap for me.
-
Metal >:D
I could listen to Testament and Dream theater all day long !

Real country died years ago. I think Alan Jackson and George Jones said it all with their recording of "Murder on Music Row".

3 of my favorite drummers too .... Check out this 12-year-old prodigy drummer Tony Royster Jr. http://www.metacafe.com/watch/1173/tony_royster_jr_drum_sologyufu/ (http://www.metacafe.com/watch/1173/tony_royster_jr_drum_sologyufu/) I saw him play along with Dennis Chambers when he was 14, at a drum clinic, and the concensus was that he blew away Dennis Chambers. He's now in his 20's.

I listen to a wide variety music, such as Journey,Queen,Boston and stuff like that, I also enjoy Opera singers like Luciano Pavarotti. At the moment I would say my favorite band is a progressive/death metal band called Opeth, and I'm a huge european metal fan, not too fond of american metal bands their talent just never seems to stack up to their sweden/finland counterparts

Here is some AMAZING drumming!
