First off WARHAWK, thanks for the acknowledgement. I will be going to Applebees today with my lady to celebrate Veteran's Day.

The special veteran that I would like to thank is Pat Athow who re-enlisted at the age of 42 to serve our country again after a nearly 20 year hiatus. He is currently in Kuwait on his way to Afghanistan. Thanks Pat. O0

The eleventh hour, of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, the "Great War" ends.   Sad, in one sense, and something I remember that that suffering nearly a century ago didn't end all wars, but only seems to have been a high point in a more or less continuous war where our young men and women continue to die.  Who was it that said the Tree of Liberty requires watering by the blood of the free?  For me, it's not a "happy" holiday, but one to reflect on those men and women who will never grow old, who will never celebrate so that we can grow old and celebrate.  And I miss the sale of the artificial red poppies that everyone bought and wore in their memory on this day--a very meaningful tradition lost.

TV coverage of the Berlin Wall celebration brings back memories. I was stationed in Germany during that time and visited the Wall and celebrated with them.

I'd like to thank all of our men and women who have served, as well as their families. Working at a VA hospital is a daily reminder that freedom is never free and that the battle never ends for many. Great prices have been paid so that we can continue to exercise our freedoms. Everyone please go out of your way today to thank a Veteran.

I want to thank you for taking it upon yourself to assist our veterans by working at the VA Hosp. I just went into the Detroit VA Hosp. yesterday for my yearly check-up and I am reminded every time I go of the compassion those of you who work there have for us. Thank you, thank you, thank you! O0

To all you guys that served..... thank you and Peace on this day to remember.
Though I never served, both my Dad (Airborne) and my Uncle (Green Beret) served. In our Family the men and women in the Military are held in very high regard.

Cool little story that my 12 year old son told me last night:

Yesterday, at the end of the day, there was a Veterans Day assembly at my son's middle school. There were several members of the Miliary there as part of the program. After the program ended, my son exited the auditorium and noticed two of the Military guys standing off to the side. He said he walked over to them, extended his arm out, and said, "Thank you for everything you do guys".
They shook his hand and thanked him for remembering.

This just reminded me how very important it is that we teach our kids about the sacrifices these people make to be in our Military.

A big Thanks to all the Veteran's who have served, those who gave the ultimate sacrifice, and to those who continue to serve this great country.
I appreciate all you do, allowing me and my family a free and happy life. It's wonderful to step out into my yard, sip my coffee and enjoy the sky above. Simple things which many people take for granted.

Thanks again!     O0

According to Google, we have one surviving veteran left from The Great War:  Frank Woodruff Buckles.  Check out his website at http://www.frankbuckles.org/ .

The last two British Veterans of The Great War passed away this year.

First - thanks to all of our brave men and women serving in the military ....

Last week, my 16-year old daughter mentioned that her friend's brother was on leave and drove them to the mall.  She told me she thanked him for protecting everyone in our country, and that put a big smile on his face.  I'm proud of her for saying that on her own.  She really meant it....

Thanks again for all the service from our Veterans, I was lucky enough to get to thank a handful of Vets in person last night. OUr High school performed the play Willy Wonka and all Veterans got free admission. I was helping at the ticket table and got to shake some Vet's hands and Thank them personally.

My Dad is a Veteran and I know he appreciates hearing the Thanks he gets every year.
