Title: I think my head is too big..
Post by: bladio on November 08, 2009, 09:46:10 PM
First off all, I begin my post saying that my english isn't the best. Sorry for that, I'm from Portugal btw. It is my 1st post so be nice to me :P

Well, I'm 21 and i'm starting to lose my hair. I have no problems with that.. I kinda like the look of a shaved head. But, I think my head is too big :( Not all the head, but I think I have a really big and large forehead. And I'm really scared about shaving it. I think my face and head will look really strange.

I always considered myself kinda cute, pretty (don't know how to say).. but with hair convering my forehead. When I try to pull back all my hair, and try to see how I would like bald, I just don't like it!!!! My head seems to be HUGE!!!

Is this a usual problem?

Sorry for my basic english, I would like to develop this subject a little more but my english doesn't allow me to do it. However, I can read perfect and I understand all you write.

thank you very much in advance. And congratulations to all of you :)

Welcome bladio.   After not seeing your forehead because of the hair, it is going to look large, that is natural.  I am sure you look fine.   Follow our rule of shaving it down and keeping that way for 30 days and you will see what we mean.

Welcome! It always takes time to get used to a new look. A new haircut looks odd at first before you get used to it. It's the same thing, and more so, with a shaved head. I'm sure it's going to look good. It is an experience of many that shaving tends to visually even out possible oddities.

Welcome to the Forum Bladio! I think your English is pretty darn good! Any new look will take time to get used to.... that's why we always suggest a 30 day trial period.

Are you shaved yet?

Sometimes guys think they have huge foreheads because they are balding, and that's all they see.  Once they shave, the forehead is less noticeable because their is no thinning/receding hair to be seen to 'show off' the forehead... it's all 'head.'  You'll only know when you try it, and as always, keep it for 30 days to get used to it.

The guys are right, you need to try it shaved for 30 days.  Remember, as your hair recedes, your forehead does grow, and it looks very large framed in the receding hairline and developing fringe.  Remove the hair frame, and it will balance out.  I have a HUGE head, if I wear a hat it has to be the largestt size available and that's still tight.  So the lesson is, it's not the size that matters it's how it's framed.  Shave the frame, keep it off for 30 days, and you'll be surprised how much you're going to like it and also other folks.

I too think that your english is perfectly fine. Let me just ask you this, what are you more worried about? Your thinning hair line, or the possible high forehead?

No matter what your answere the end result will still be the same!

Wecome Bladio.  Good you have you join our group.  The guys are correct.  We are our own worst critics.  Once your shaved, you will love the look and freedom.  No worries about going bald because you are now bald.  I always considered my head to be large, but strangely enough, once shaved, it Does look smaller.  Go figure?

Bladio,

You ought to post a profile picture here.  Then we would have a better way to judge.  As for myself, I have to wear the largest hat size too.  I think I rock the sly look quite well.  But I know that in the past some who have had been concerned about their looks have had their picture "balderized".  In other words, their picture with hair was altered to look like it had been shaved.  So maybe someone on here can do that for you!

Believe it or not, I don't use the largest size of a hat :P, but I still think that my forehead and the upper part of my head (i say, from the eyes up) is really big. I wish you could see when I pull my hair back.

I already uploaded my picture to my profile. Sorry i'm not with a sly head already.. but in less than an year i'll shave it to get used to it. In that day i'll take a picture to change my profile.

Thanks to all you. Really, you'r all the best :)

Most people worry that their heads are too big to be shaved.  It rarely, if ever, turns out to be the case.

Proof is in the pictures. Andre Agassi was the poster boy of "cute', with his flowing golden locks, which weren't golden by nature, nor even his.

The point is Agassi was cute before and according to his wife Steffi, he's still cute. I'm cute and I don't have my long locks concealing my forehead.

Listen bladio, you're far too apprehensive about this. I bet most of the guys on this board thought their foreheads were too big before they shaved their heads. I guarantee that your head is no bigger than any of the rest of the guys. So give it a shot. it's only hair and it will grow back if your not pleased with the results. Life's too short to not take a risk. Give it a go, bladio.

Bro you'll look great, you really will.  You may not consider yourself or be considered by others as "pretty" but that really isn't a bad thing.

It's a new look, for sure, but it's not a bad look.  And you know what, you have God's gift of a darker complexion, which IMO looks infinitely better with a bald head than your pasteoid brothers (me).  So you're lucky in that sense.

Honestly, you may not think you look as good as before, but it won't be bad.

I think it is essential for us bald guys to be fairly strong and buff to go along with thetough look, so if that's something you lack, get on it.  But really, you should do that anyways, right?

Just do it and you'll never have to worry about it again.

Hi Bladio,

I think you look fine.
And as much as I can see from the picture, it doesn't look like you have a big head or forhead.

I think, that you might think its huge, because you don't normaly see it, when you wear your hair like in your picture.
So, when you take that hair away from your forehead it looks huge to you, but it really isn't huge, but just normal.

So take a risk and just do it - you might be surprised or even pleased to see how good you look - or you might need a bit of time to get used to the new look, but that shouldn't be a problem and it happens fast.

I have been wearing my hair buzzed or clippershaved for many months and I can't imagine myself with longer hair anymore and I also get more used to the shaved head - and my invironment too. ;-)

So, try it - you might like it.

you'r right. I'll do it in the summer for sure!!! I'll try it for 2 months even if I don't like it. Then, i'll see. But in 2/3 years, I'll don't have hair anymore, I think.. so even if I don't like it, it will be a obligation.

I don't have a darker complexion bro :P Maybe my photo isn't with the correct lighting, but i'm really pale! I don't know for sure but I think I'm even more "white" than you :P

By the way, any of you use a head cream to make it "darker"?

Thank you very much to all of you guys, you'r the best :)

Oi Bladio! Muito Prazer! Definitely listen to these guys. They know what they are talking about. Like some of the other guys, I have to wear the larger hats because my head is just too big. And when I had the dreaded horseshoe hair, my forehead seemed to go on for miles. But once I shaved everything off, my head didnt seem that big, and my forehead seemed a lot smaller.

As far as a cream to make your head darker, I wouldnt use any bronzers. I would go outside and let it get sun like the rest of your skin. Just make sure to use sunscreen because when you get sunburn on your head, you will know it. Trust me. haha.

Friend, Bladio-

Screw the summer.  Do it now!  In a strictly heterosexual sense, I think you would look great shaved and sporting a nice goatee.  You have dark features and a nicely shaped face.

My own perception about the size of my head is what kept me from shaving and had me walking around for years w/a stupid-ass hair hat.

Take the plunge, dude; have a pair.  You won't regret it.   :popo

Hey Bladio,

No worries, man - I've got a giant head for somebody my size, plus I'm the whitest guy I know (btw, I love "pasteoid", Whiskerbiscuit), and the bald head still looks good.

When you feel like the time has come, don't hesitate.  Just go for it.

And while you're waiting for your scalp to darken up naturally, I find that Juergens Natural Glow really does work during the transition period.

Good luck, man.

Sorry for the late welcome Bladio.
Don't worry man, you don't have a large forhead, just extremely large eyebrows! J/K   ;)
I don't think there is one person on this forum that thought they had a perfect head before they shaved, but look at all the perfect heads on here.
You are who you are, can't change it. If you consider yourself cute with hair, then your gonna consider yourself sexy as hell without it. >:D Step up to sexy and go have alot of fun  8)

Hi!
Did you shave it? Cold feet are hard to overcome. I am hesitating all the time. I think you just have to take the plunge and not think too much about the consequences and reactions.

Hey 1mm,

you take the plunge ;-)
I found out, for myself, that 1mm is bald to most people anyway.
It makes more of a difference for us than for anybody else, especially when you are still "on the fence".

@Sometimer: To be honest, I chickened out of shaving. After my incident with the razor (I nicked myself badly) I did not shave again, only buzzed it. It took some time to heal.  I was forced to not follow the 30 days rule! Then, in spring 2009, I let my hair grow out. Now it is quiet long (for my standards). I am still thinking about shaving it all off... Reactions were not that bad when it was very short (and I had it short for several month). But people always say longer hair suits me better... And my hairline is receeding, but not that much. So I am not forced to shave it.

You're right about no "need" to shave or buzz it, you have essentially a normal head of hair.  If you shave and you've had a bad issue w/ nicks, make sure that you buzz it as close as possible.  Really soak it good, then use a razor you're familiar with.  HB has a lot of fans, but it requires skill and practice and even then it doesn't work for everyone, including me.  I found the Fusion extremely easy to use, gave a really close shave & comfortable.  Use a good shaving creme or gel, Headslick, applied w/ a brush & a little extra gylcerine does the trick for me.  It's sort of like painting, the secret's in the preparation.
Try it again, but you really don't "need" to because of MPB, for you it's a style choice, at least right now, remembering that 50% of men have mpb to some degree by age 50.

Hi 1mm,
I had a similar experience. The first time i tried shaving, I had several cuts on my head and felt, that I look like Frankenstein. ;-)
That was sometime last year and I took a break after that.
The reactions of people are most of the time mixed: some love it, some don't.
There will allways be people that tell you that you look better with hair.
But some asked me the other day: why are you letting your hair grow - you look like a hippie - I prefer bald.
That was just, cause I was lazy for a few days. ;-)
I have also a not badly receeding hairline - just mild thinning in some spots, so (as you) I dont "have" to shave my hair, because it doesn't look that bad.

But anyway: after a while everybody gets used to it - even the people who say that they prefer you with hair.
It is just a personal choice, that you have to make for yourself.

If you want to try it, do it again.
Follow the advise for shaving: take a long warm shower, buzz it close before and than take your time and a fresh blade. You'll be fine.

Ok guys,
Sooner or later my long hair has to go. Not today or so but I think next week. However, I might start with a short buzz cut. So that people can get used to the new, nearly hairless, me.

You've got the "itch" to be sly, but remember--it's not about the other "people" it's about you and being happy about yourself.  Don't forget the 30 day rule, and you've been near here before so the "Who's the dude in the mirror!" feeling won't be so intense.  Get ready for freedom, enjoy.
