Title: Alfred von Vollard Bockelberg
Post by: Timmay on October 19, 2009, 12:33:16 PM
anyone know him?  He was a German General during WWII in Paris France.  Here is his picture...

(https://www.slybaldguys.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi255.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fhh157%2FTimmj%2Fhindenburg_staff1915.jpg&hash=578a9cb61bbc2d79a403638ad9799ca3d6f62b21)

He is the guy standing in the front.  The coat he has on in this picture is over at my wifes place of employment where the owner of it brought it in to have a few repairs done to it.  All of the threads to do the repairs has to come from within the coat itself.  No new threads or items can be added to it, to help preserve the authencity of it.  I had the coat on for a few minutes and Kris took some pictures.  It is just  a little creepy to have it on knowing what it has been thru and the places it has been.

Not really into all of this but it is kinda neat.  I will post pics soon

This is interesting. As Tom said these are WW1 uniforms. The name of the file indicates that it is from 1915.

Here is a link to a forum where the persons in the picture are identified: http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?f=72&t=55444&p=497855 (http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?f=72&t=55444&p=497855). They say that he is the one to the right, did you mean that Timmay?

Hey Timmay,

Great Picture.  Definitely a photo from WWI.  The big guy in the center look's like Field Marshal Paul von Hindenburg.  If you have his Great Coat, I would think you have a very valuable piece of history on your hands.

As for Alfred von Vollard Bockelberg, he served in both WWI and the early part of WWII.  He was the Military Commander of Paris from 1 June till 1 August, 1940.  He was discharged on 30 August, 1940.  In May of 1945, he was arrested by the Soviet's.  He has not been seen since and was declared dead on 11 July, 1953 by the Schöneberg district court.

Look forward to seeing the new pictures.

OK I stand corrected...the guy in the middle front is not the one whose coat I have on in the following pictures..it is the guy to to the right of him..  Here are a couple of pics...

Great photo's.

If that Great coat is indeed the one in the photo (which I don't doubt), that is Field Marshal Paul von Hindenberg's Great coat.  What a piece of history you had on.  One of the Greatest (if not the Greatest) Field Marshals in the history of Germany and also their last President.  If that coat could talk.

Very Cool, as a history buff, I would love that kind of opportunity.

Thanks for sharing.

I venture to say this photo was in Berlin and not Paris.  The Germans got within shelling distance of Paris with the Big Bertha (an oversized railway gun in service from March - August 1918; it hurled a 210 lb shell a range of 81 miles and had a maximum altitude of 25 miles), but not into the city itself.  That would wait until the Second World War.
