Title: I ABSOLUTELY HATE THIS TIME OF THE YEAR!
Post by: Timmay on October 15, 2009, 07:58:41 PM
I finally had to break down and do it.  I didnt want to, the kids for the last two days have been complaining about it.  Kris would walk thru the house like she was on her way to visit someone up in the artic circle or something.  The dogs didnt want to get out of their kennel.  So yeah..I finally fired up the ol gas furnace.    I hate it with a passion.  So what about you all, how long do you wait until you turn on your heat?  Yes I know there are some of us who are still under the airconditioning, so.....to you....you suck!  lol

I've been running my heat, periodically, for the past 2 weeks or so.   It snowed in Connecticut today and we seem to have accummulated an inch or so in our yard.

Yup.  I live in Central Florida and this time of year still has a bit of that depressing feeling of collapse and decay and it's still in the 80s and 90s here!  I think a lot has to do with reacting to the sun setting earlier and earlier.

I've always hated this time of year, but it was certainly worse when I was a kid because it was time to go back to school.  Man that was always a depressing experience.

Wait until we go back to Sucky Time.  I can't stand that either.  When I lived in PA the #*$(# sun set at 4:45pm.  I had a whole 45 minutes to enjoy the outdoors in the deep winter after getting off the bus, of course there was no point to being outside anyway since it was the deep winter!

OK, I jinxed myself mentioning the heat in my last posting.  I noticed it was a little cold in here after my last posting, checked the thermostat, and realized my gas furnace is not coming on.  Checked the circuit breaker and emergency shutoff switch and all is ok there.  That's where I stop ...

It's 34 outside and about 59 inside now. I turned on the fireplace (gas) to help out, but that  hasn't done much.  Oh well, have to get that fixed tomorrow ...

I have had to put the furnace on first thing in the morning to take the chill out.    I have it off the rest of the day and when I get home, I get a fire going in the fireplace.   I like that.

Between 32 an 34 in this part my country (Finland). It's not bad but this time of the year days are becoming shorter. Less sunlight means it's once again a bit harder to keep up the good spirit...

hey Iconic...i am very fimiluar with that.  You have to admit though that your summers are awesome.  I spent the whole month of July in Helsinki.  I loved the fact that at 1 am it is still somewhat daylight out.  Only thing was...it made it tough for me to get to sleep.  You have a beautiful country there

We just turned the heat on for the first time yesterday. The outside temperature was 42 degrees so it was time. I love all Seasons becuase it means I'm still alive and kicking. I do hate paying those inflated propane bills though.......... :P

Despite several complaints from my wife, no heat here in Georgia...yet.  It's supposed to get down to the lower 40's this weekend, so we'll have to see.  I usually wait until my family threatens to go to the in-law's until I break down and turn on the heat.  My motto...you can always put on more clothes!

I hate this time of year too. Yesterday it was 94 degrees with about 100% humidity.  Last night a cool spell rolled in and the high today is going to be around the mid 70's.  This roller coaster has my sinuses screwed.  I don't mind the cold (such as it is here).  I may turn on the furnace maybe 3 or 4 times a year.

I turned the heat on yesterday. We've had cold rain here in VA the past two days. But its been getting colder for the past two weeks. I like the feel of fall, but I absolutely abhor the shorter days.  :-\

Record highs yesterday, 92 at Audubon Park.  Cold weather on the way though, it might not get out of the sixties tomorrow and Sunday.  Heaters may come on then, but it's doubtful.  I like this time of year, the heat is usually bearable so outside is again a possibility rather than hiding in the a/c.  But the first days the heaters do come on, miserable sinus reaction.

I love this time of year. The summer heat has abated and the days are pleasant and evenings cool. The best part is that it'll be this way until our three days or so of winter in February.

Timmay, thanks and I'm really glad to hear you enjoyed your holiday in Finland. July is the season to be here! I admit our summer is great - I love it, it really makes me feel alive. Hard to get sleep, sure, but maybe its meant to be that way, plenty of time for sleeping during wintertime :)

Fall seemed to skip Kansas City.  It should be low 70's this time of year but cold, dark and dreary for the last two weeks.  Really looking forward to the 300 buck gas bills.

I came home from work on Wednesday and my wife had turned it on.  It has been down into the lower 40s at night and only reaching upper 40s during the day though.  It's unusually cold for this time of year.  When we went shopping for halloween costumes for the kids, we had to make sure whatever we got, they could wear clothes under them because it may be a chilly halloween.

Hey Warhawk :: Actually unlike these other guys winter does`nt bother me at all....It`s nice too have 4 different seasons too enjoy every year.........
I think the biggest problem this year though was that there was no fall..It went from 80 too snow overnight.
The leaves literally just dropped from the trees ( still green ) in one shot..yeah they froze too death..
I wish i could have taken some pictures ..It was a site too see......
As for the heat..Its just part of Minnesota life....My heat bill is usually not bad at all............

Well, notwithstanding record heat Thursday, 92, early this morning the heaters came on--we have automatic thermostats that switch between a/c and heat depending on the temperature.  I knew it the minute I woke up--my sinuses were stopped up and I was starting to get congested.  My wife said the same thing.  At least I had cleaned the filters so there wasn't that aweful smell of burning dust O0.  Near record cold is expected, granted that's only in the mid-forties for us, but the quick switch from hot and humid to what is for us cold, really messes up the sinuses.

It's been raw and cold here in CT for a while already. For those who are living with blinders on , Global Warming effects the whole weather pattern and doesn't necessarily mean we all are going to have Florida weather. It's much worse than that.

I seem to remember that some use to think the Earth was flat too.

Many noteworthy scientists are saying we're actually at the beginning of a cooling trend.  Due to this, we're supposed to stop using the term "global warming" and start using the term "climate change".    This global warming crapola seems to be a purely political issue.  But, I suppose since Al Gore invented the internet, his scientific background qualifies him to make these precisely measured claims.

I once found out that my house in Malibu had a heater because someone ripped the thermostat off the wall during a party and it got set to the highest temperature possible.  200 people in a house with the heater on = bad bad night.

Weather is absolutely perfect out here right now. Going to grill is about an hour.

Trying my hand at Jerk Chicken for the first time. Serving it with a corn salad, and "Pomme de terre avec l'orange" (Fried potatoes in olive oil & garlic, with zest & juice of orange). Serving it with asiago cheese bread and Rombauer Chardonnay.

The Lovely Mrs. Schro has been busy with all sorts of volunteer sh*t recently, so I wanted to cook tonight. Plus, I've wanted to try Jerk Chicken.

I'll report in tomorrow on the meal....

The Jerk Chicken recipe I had was really mild & sweet, but very very tasty. The kids & the Lovely Mrs. Schro all appreciated the meal.
Also, the potatoes made with garlic & orange zest & orange juice was a huge hit.
