Warhawk's remote thread got me thinkinking of another question: How do you get your TV? Do you have cable or satellite? Do you watch TV over the internet?
-
To answer my own question, I have cable and watch it through my TiVos.
-
I have Comcast Digital Cable. I do watch a bit of television on the computer. I like BBC on their iPlayer viewer. I have to use an IP Proxy to stream it.

I am one of those oddballs (like people who shave their heads) who does not "get" TV. DVDs or VHS tapes, but nothing else, warm up my set, about once every other week or so. The time once wasted on TV, I now waste on the computer.
-
we have digital cable. Was with DishNetwork and they seem to be screwing me over after being a customer of theirs for over 6 years....I couldnt ever upgrade without paying a huge fee...so I dropped em like yesterdays trash.
-
Cable.
Tried Dish and AT&T over promised and under delivered.

There's tv in INDIANA? ;D Just kiddin' Tim. I've got Charter cable primarily keep it for the local individualized weather channel. Customer service for Charter, sucks.
-
yes we still have the big HUGE CONSOLE Television sets with teh Rabbit ears...HUSH...lol
-
We have Cox Cable, which is ok for TV.... I really like their high speed internet service, though, as I'm connecting at 28 Megs Download and 3 megs upload.
-
DishTV, had Cox, but after Katrina when we got electricity back at the house, the cable was working, then about a week later Cox disconnected everyone and never explained why. They didn't reconnect for two months--that's when we knew that at the switch to an HDTV we'd go satillite--Cox failed to deliver when it could. Now, we have more channels and movies than we can watch.

we have cox digital cable.

I have Direct TV and pretty pleased with the service. I had Dishnetwork in a previous home, but would pick Direct TV if I had to make the choice again. The one thing that sucks with satellite is the lack of weather info like Paul said. If you're a weather nut like myself, nothing beats the local weather channel on regular cable.

Cable for TV, Internet and phone. I use Windows Media Center for my DVR.
-
Comcast - HD/DVR. Considering switching to FIOS to save a few bucks.

Just be careful that it's not just a teaser rate to get you to jump ship.

I don't have cable or satellite. I have computer hooked up to my living room tv, which runs XBMC. I usually watch justin.tv for watching movies and cartoons for kids, a fox news and cnn streams for watching news. For watching Fringe and other TV shows I have to launch the web browser and goto hulu.com, but I am trying to figure out how to integrate that to XBMC.
The quality it usually OK, but it's not bad for a dated PC and a 1.5 mb/s DSL connection (which I pay too much for [$40/mo], but there isn't much of a choice for where I live).
-
I plug my old TV into wall socket --turn it on..
What ever stations come in - is the ones i watch..
no joke ..

Customer service for Charter, sucks.
I've got Charter Cable .... AND IT SUCKS. Worst customer service I have ever seen.
-
I use FIOS for TV (about a zillion channels and I still never find anything interesting to watch) and internet (50 down/25 Up...VERY fast).
So far (been with them about a year now) customer service has been very good!
For my telephone (I have 2 lines at home) I still have yet to bit the VoIP bullet. In the beginning, my alarm company strongly advised against it and recommended I stay with traditional telephone service, but now that the alarm uses GSM (whatever that is) the hard wired phone line isn't needed. Currently I use FIOS fiber optics for the phone lines, and the sound quality is amazing. I might check out VoIP in the future.

We have DVBT - means digital TV via antenna.

Cable..Horry Telephone Cooperative is the provider

I have Comcast Digital Cable. They have slowly been adding new HD channels, so it's slightly better than it used to be, but I'd still love to dump them in favor of Fios, which is available in my town but not my neighborhood yet -- and no one can tell me when it will be available. :Xo! I have the Comcast Triple Play -- TV, internet and phone. Got a very good rate but the two year contract is about to expire. Since Fios isn't yet an option, I guess I'm going to have to try and negotiate a new contract with Comcast if I can.
I used to have DirecTV and liked it a lot. I only switched back to cable because Comcast paid me back twice what I paid for the dish if I signed up for their digital cable and broadband internet package.

Fios :/O :/O :/O What's that? Never heard of it.

It's Verizon's fiber-optics television and internet network. My dad has it; they have a much better channel selection -- particularly when it comes to HD channels, than what Comcast offers.

Don't feel bad then, it's pretty new, maybe. Not even rumored in LA.
-
Rabbit ears and a crappy converter. :-\
-
AT&T U-verse for TV & Internet. Better picture quality and faster net than we had with Time Warner Cable.
-
DirecTV, love it!
We have a Verizon AirCard for internet. Just plug it into the laptop, and surf away.
-
Comcast Cable for internet, and DirecTV for the TV since we can get Brazilian channels for Mrs. Mvmnt.
but boy oh boy, if i can find a decent stream of TV Globo, then im getting rid of DirecTV and hooking the TV up to a computer!
-
I had the Comcast Triple Play for TV, Internet and Phone. I actually liked it a lot. I enjoyed getting the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and getting news from a non-American perspective.
However, I got rid of Comcast to reduce my bills since I need to get my credit cards paid off. That will be done in February. At that point, I will bring back Comcast. So currently I use the digital over the air settop box. But I hate the fact that I can't get some channels anymore and others keep pixelating. Very annoying!
I also get my internet for free at home as I have been able to tap into a unencrypted wireless signal. But lately that has not been consistant. So I am typing this at the Starbucks at my local mall.

Have one of those 3 for 1 deals.

Saw one of those huge consoles behind the curtain of door #1 on the new "Let's Make A Deal".

As I've said, we have DishTV & are pretty happy w/ it. Question has come to mind, and I hope this isn't a "highjack" but what happens when you're contract, ours was two years, comes to an end? :/O :/O I'd like to have some information from someone who's been through it to see if any better deals can be cut staying w/ DishTV or switching to Direct. We won't go back to Cox Cable, if it meant giving up TV entirely--they really suck here. And the new glass fiber deal isn't here yet--not even heard of as far as I know.

Gents,
A co-worker was telling me about watching TV via the Internet for real cheap!! I couldn't remember the name of the website, so I searched and found a Consumers article on the subject. It also includes links to the top 3.
http://consumersguides-2009.org/tvtopcreviews/m.htm
I looked at the first one and it's either a monthly fee of a few bucks or a lifetime fee of about 35 bucks. If you have a good quality monitor and/or don't mind having your computer on when you're watching TV (yeah, it would probably all have to be in the same room), then this might be a solution for you who like to watch the 1-eyed baby sitter (TV). O0
Also, if you're not into cable packages and want cheaper phone service, there are a number of options. What I went with is unlimited home phone for about 10 bucks/ month through my cell phone company (t-something). There are lesser expensive programs than this one, again, through your computer; so you'd have to have your computer on to get calls I'd suppose, and my ancient tube monitor and pc eat up about 200-300watts of power each. This means my electric bill would sky-rocket to save elsewhere. If I got an LCD monitor, they can have power ratings around 20 watts, but I can't justify the cost to lower my electic bill...yet! 8)

Mostly download what I want to watch.

Over the air broadcast channels. That's it
