Post by: fcb2001 on October 03, 2009, 01:31:14 AM
Yesterday morning i visited a friend that lives about 80 miles from where i live, he took me to a neighbourhood barbershop, i the barber used a straight razor, i was shaved with the grain three times and shaved against the grain, i was completely scapled, my hair hasnt even stubbled yet and it has been 40 hours, ive had complete strangers giving me head rubs the past two days

Fantastic! I saw the e-mail on this site that showed the Oriental man having a stright razor cut.  There didn't seem to be a shadow once the barger finished.

Wait a sec, I'm very skeptical about this.  Is it possible that the placebo effect is going on here?  The only way it would be possible for the barber to get a closer shave is if he somehow managed to cut the hairs even deeper beneath the surface of the skin than a standard razor.  How could a straightedge be better able to do that than a quality home razor?  Do barbers have some sort of technigue that causes the skin to push the hairs further out of the skin?

Is it possible that you are normally a morning shaver and you had a razor shave later in the day?  When you first wake up I believe everything in the upper part of the body is more swollen than it normally is.  Then once you're up for a while gravity pulls things down.  Therefore if you shave in the mornings your skin might be "puffier" and then when it contracts it exposes stubble.  If you shave after the skin contracted then you'd cut off more hair.

Idunno... I might be thinking too deeply about this.

Sounds like a great experience, fcb! Even though the very thought of someone standing over me with a straight edge razor is somewhat daunting, I'd like to try that some time.  8)
