Title: I can't make myself do it!
Post by: Demoman Dawkins on October 02, 2009, 12:13:03 PM
I pretty much hate my hair, but I don't want to shave it off for the fear that my head'll look dodgy. I've been asking quite a bit about my head shape and I've gotten mixed comments. I still don't know whether it's right for me. Can someone just give me a definite yes or no based on my head shape? I'm lost.

Here's a recent pic - http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/photo.php?pid=123311&id=1804774597

I mainly care about what my friends will think. I don't want them staring and poking my head, lol.

Posting a link to Facebook is useless for those of us non-members.

But even without that, if you care more about what your friends will think than you care about hating your hair, then keep it. Or, you could grow a pair and do what you want for a change.

What's your priority?

Btw, welcome!

Well, your current hairstyle doesn't look bad from that angle. Why do you hate it? But talking about the shape of your head, I see nothing strange.

I hate my high hairline. Simple.

Well, I think you have to face the fact that the high forehead seems to indicate that you've got the mpb gene and will eventually lose you hair--nothing reasonable to do about it.
Once you get the to the point you look more bald than hair if you don't like it--lather up, clean up and get over the problem and move on with life.

Check out some of the 'bald' groups on Facebook.  There are hundreds of young bald British guys your age and they look way cool.

Try a close buzz first it that's an easier was to see if your like the look.

I agree with RED.  If you want to see what it's going to be like before you go FULL BALD, get it cut real close with a pair of clippers.  I did that for a couple of years before I decided to go all the way.  Also, if your friends are going to make fun of you for changing your hair style then they probably aren't very good friends. IMHO.  Just go for it.  You will never care if you have hair again.  It is such a liberating feeling.   Good Luck in what ever you decide.

Nah, they ARE good friends. They just enjoy giving people a hard time when they change. Especially if they don't expect it. I've also had really short hair in the past, but never really payed attention to what I looked like until I noticed my hairline.

Shave yr head, make a goatee, buy a cool pair of sunglasses and send the "friends" to hell...  ;)

Check Culwings images in Before & After gallery (I think that you have the same shape), his sly look is really amazing!

Firstly Welcome from another UK sly.

I too had a vey high hair line and I also have a very lumpy head.  I just shaved it to try things out, and I liked being bald. Despite having a few reservations and the  fact that a few people gave a surprised reaction I liked it. I grew my hair back - my hair grows very quickly, but after about 2 weeks or so I got fed up not being bald so cut my hair with clippers with no guard on, but that was too much hassle so I started shaving again.  I haven't looked back since.

My advice is give it a go and remeber the '30 day rule'.  You can always grow your hair back, but my own experience (and reading that of others ) means that I won't go back to growing my hair any more !

Never knew BB to mince words (which I prefer).
That being said, I have to agree with him, Demoman.

Man, your head shape is fine.  Oddly enough, no different than anyone else.  We all have our own thoughts about what is wrong with our bodies.  We are our own worst critics.  You seem to have shaving on your mind, so what is holding you back?  Do it and get over the worries once in for all.  I'll bet once shavings is done, you will make the same statement the rest of us have said, "Why didn't I do it sooner"!

Funny how we all worry about what other people will think and say.    I would bet that nearly everyone who makes that transition worries about others.    The best thing is to do it and to not ask them what they think about it - but to tell them how great it is an how much you love it.   Others are influenced by how we react.   Don't ask - tell them.

A lot of us agonized over the thought of shaving our heads.  Most of us experienced freedom and the end of the pain of losing our hair the moment we stepped out of the shower and looked in the mirror.   Its hard to explain until you do it.  So step up and grab a blade and go the distance.

I'll 2nd that. It was hard for me even though it was 1/2 gone any way.  Just forget about everyone else. If I remember right a few weeks back when I was worried about buzzing my hair off. I posted almost the same thing. The main reply I got was. "If your asking then you already know the answer".  So...... you know what you want, I haven't worried about it since I did it or even thought about it letting it grow back. Hair is a thing of the past. On my head anyway. ;)

By the way, if you just can't get up the nerve to do it yourself go to a barber or salon and just sit down, relax and say "take it to the skin". Then enjoy

I know what you’re talking about.  I never thought about my head shape because a military haircut was a must.  However after I shave my head, I notice the shape of the back of my head.  It was somewhat flat.  I agonized about it for sometime and thought of letting my hair grow back.  After asking our bald brother about advice, I felt confident and more comfortable with the fact that as long as I was happy bald nothing else mattered.  As it turned out it’s not really all that bad.  Most of the time we make things worst by just thinking about it when most people are not fascinated by your head shape, but by how hot and sexy your bald head looks.  Go ahead and shave you head and enjoy the freedom of being bald.  If it makes you happy, you’ll love it and believe me you’ll keep it shaved for a long time.

go a number 2 or 3 mate. you don't need to jump straight into a full razor shaved head. to be honest i prefer a clippered cut (no guard) rather than a razor shaved head. (personal preference guys, don't get angry :) ) You still have plenty of hair by the look of it so a shave to a 2 or 3 will look tops! that easy!
p.s friends like to rip on each other, its just how it is. i bet you have a red haired friend you've called ranga or red nut for years and you didn't think twice about it, i know i have. its the same, your friends will tease you but they won't mean anything harsh by it, its all about how to percieve and take it on board, just turn it into a joke with them - like "your mum seemed to enjoy it last night" or something :P go shave now bro

Gonna hafta agree with what everyone else has already said.

Try it.  Give it 30 days.

If you like it (and I know you will), then that's all that matters. The others can go screw.
