Title: Screen Names
Post by: Tom McGarry. on September 29, 2009, 12:39:57 PM
Good afternoon my fellow chrome domes/ cue balls/ skin heads or what ever you wish to call yourselves, I was wondering why/how you chose your screen names?

Is it a nick name, what you do for a living, your interests or just simply a way to remain anonymous?

As for me many of you may remember that when I first joined this awsome forum my screen name was CanadianHeadBlader, obviously it was because I love the HeadBlade for scalping the dome plus of course I am Canadian, I also for a short period of time went by GearJammer, that is because I am a truck driver, or I prefer to say I am a Professional Comodities Relocation Expert, or Professional Highway Navigational Engineer.

But now I just use my real name, I do so because this to me is more than just a forum, it is like my family and I have grown to trust you guys and feel I do not need to hide the real me.

So What's your story??

I feel like maybe I need to answer this..its only appropriate, especially with what I am about to do.  My name is a nick name that actually has my real name in it.  My full name is Joseph Timothy and but on the inside of my class ring they engraved my name backwards...they put Timothy Joseph.  A fellow class mate announced my new name was Timmy Joe or TimmJ...so that is how it came about.

Well it used to be Lophura but I was messing around with settings and found I can change my display name so I did. Mike is short for Michael which is my name.

Mike is my first name and "Koz" is actually a portion of a bastardized version of my last name (I'm Polish and a lot of folks have trouble with the last name).... "13" is the number I wore in every sport I ever played.

My name is Rusty. Rusty Shackleford.  That's how I got my screen name.  I think you all are cowards for using nicknames, or completely false names.  Some of you don't even show your own face in your avatar.

I know you but you don't know me even though I've given my real name, really.  My social security number is 5555555.

Mine is a Sly version of a name I've used on other forums for years - which is itself based on what I do.

Post by: marshd1000 on September 29, 2009, 09:59:13 PM
Well, as most of you know, my first name is Marshall.  The "D" in marshd1000 is for my last name, Dunston.  Some of you who are my Facebook friends already know this.  The "1000" comes from the fact that my email addresses have this as "med" and "marshd" were already taken.

It's my name David John - translated into Irish.  When I was studying I shared rooms with an Irish guy who insisted on calling everyone by their Irish counterpart names, the nickname has just stuck.

Had to pick something and didn't want to use my age-old screen name from other forums. A fresh start, as I want to look ahead.  My girlfriend (then would-be-gf and now probably ex) once made me smile saying that my face looks iconic. We were talking about eastern orthodox icons.  Professor Melon reads my name ironic.

Mine is a lyric from one of my favorite songs. I was in a weird time in my life when i picked this name, and it jsut seemed to work for me.

Misery Signals "In Summary of What I Am"

"I am peripheral movement
I am a figure without form
I am a person seem from a distance
Rebirth to a new life transcribed in wires "

On other forums I am flyingmonkeypoop. When I first came up with it I was watching the wizard of oz and all the other good names were taken (it was a chicken forum) and I liked to throw poop so I combined the flying monkey's from the movie and poop. Some people take it as monkey poop flying through the air which it could be. But yeah, Mike is my nickname.

I just had to share that with everyone, it makes me laugh

My neighbor's children adopted me as their grandfather when their's died.  I have been known as Papa Don for eight years now.  All the other neighbors have picked up on it so I guess that Papa Don is really not my screen name.

Mine is a little convoluted. Eight years ago, I was looking for a domain name for my website, at the time it was a personal blog. I lived in Tampa, where "VoyeurDorm Dot Com" was located. They launched in 1998, and got grossly popular in the next couple of years. I wanted "GeekDorm Dot Com" as a place where you can peer in and look at the life of a geek. It was taken, so I ended up with "DaveDorm Dot Com" which was a peek into the life of Dave. It sort of stuck, until I took my blog down in 2008.

Well, at the firehouse, lasagna has always been sort of a specialty of mine and one day someone yelled out "Hey Noodles- when's the noodles gonna' be ready??!"

                                    (https://www.slybaldguys.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi717.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fww173%2Fprestonjjrtr%2FSmileys%2FSmiley28-1.gif&hash=c813f5fecf7e7dee47489fcb2d359b8a0897f0f1)

That was about 26 years ago and the name stuck ever since. I'm the captain of my station, so the nickname "Cap'n Noodles" just caught on naturally. When I joined the SBG forum, my screen name was a no-brainer! (https://www.slybaldguys.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi266.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fii269%2Ftheogrit%2F1sm395.gif&hash=8ba2e706ca6539dd6007fca9127c3e5ad06a900f)

- Cap'n Noodles -

Also, being sort of a novice cartoonist, I, over the years, have made cartoon characters out of the guys, and whenever a "classic" moment occurs- it usually gets immortalized forever in a cartoon collection of mine called "Noodles Doodles".

Mine used to be Baldoug - a blend of Bald and Doug. Then I added an extra "d" for a more grammatically correct BaldDoug.  :*)) Then I dropped the Bald part as it wasn't currently accurate. I tired to get "Doug", but apparently someone else had already taken it, hence "|Doug|"

Some of my other hobbies (besides barbershop quartet singing) are yarn crafts and photography.  Basically your average artsy-fartsy guy here, though prefer the term "crafty".  Not only is craftyguy a username I've been using in other forums for a few years, "crafty" tends to go well semantically with "sly" - so there ya go.

Post by: Dr.Mr.Ed on September 07, 2010, 06:10:38 PM
In our neighborhood, the customary way to refer to the dads is by "Mr. Firstname". So we had Mr. Joe, Mr. Dan, Mr. Steve.  And then me, Mr. Ed.  I wasn't going to have any of that, whether they know who Mr. Ed is or not.

I have a Ph.D. and so one day quipped to a 12 year old neighbor in response to a Mr. Ed, "that's Dr. Ed to you." Then she called me "Dr. Mr. Ed", and it stuck. It's the first real nickname I've had since like 8th grade, so I've been using it everywhere.

My normal username is Snowblind, its my gaming name and its like a second first name for me. I have gaming friends that will call me Snowblind and I'll respond as if they said Brad. Snowblind is just a little tribute to Project: Snowblind, which was the first ever first person shooter so played. So my usual username is just a little tribute to my beginning. (I pretty much only play FPS's now).

I figured since this site is dedicated to being bald, I figured I would go for a more generic name. I actually decided on this name after reading one of BaldBear's posts. If I knew how cool everyone on here I would have gone with Snowblind, but I didn't find out how nice everyone is until I joined.

Bald- because I am, and Bradley- because its my name lol
