Title: Ever been to Phoenix?
Post by: Lullaby on March 05, 2007, 08:45:03 PM
Hey all, I'll be moving shortly from central IL to Phoenix (or a suburb around there like Mesa,Chandler, ect). This is my first move and I'm pretty nervous. To those that have been to these areas, how did you like it? Is the heat too much? Any comments would be appreciated and hopefully ease me up a little.

thanks!

I've been there at various times during the year and enjoy all Phoenix has to offer. However, the summer is brutal. I know it's all personal preference and a lot of people love it, but I like a little relief in the evenings (summers it can still be mid 90s at 6am). I think Albert (ar3inc) is from Phoenix. Maybe he can lend a hand.

Man, central IL to Phx is a huge difference. I wish you all the best.

Hey man, you'll be right at home with all of the other people that move there from IL.  Phoenix was actually built on the same grid system as Chicago.  There's plenty of Chicago style restaurants and delis.   I know, because I lived there for 6 months right out of college.  There's plenty of beautiful women in the Phoenix area, so that's a plus.

To be honest, I really liked living in Phoenix and sometimes regret leaving.  Good luck in your move and remember that it's just opening up a new chapter in your life.  You have the choice in making that a great chapter or a so-so chapter.

That's a wonderful point. I'll keep that in mind.  O0

Yes, I lived in Phoenix for many years.  I loved living there.  Summers... yup, they're hot!  But you'll learn that it is not so bad.  This is actually a good time move there, so you can ease into the heat.  We move in Aug. :o wow what a shock.

Yeah great peps in the valley, chicks are hot!  Good bars.  ASU helps a lot with the party environment. :D
I lived on the east side of the valley, so if that helps any when you end up moving.

The toughest part is going to be moving across statelines.  Done that a time or two, and it is always fun.  Use pro movers.  the extra money is well worth it, but you'll still have some challenges. :-\

I pretty much love everything about Arizona. The lower half of the state, below the Mogollon Rim, is a little on the really hot side during the summer but if you really like heat you will do alright. Phoenix, Tucson, both great cities.

My parents live in PHX, so I go there alot. Its a city that has just about everything. Its too hot for my Michigan blood, but the greatest thing about that city is that its not far from Flagstaff. Oh..and the women are hot and there seemed to be alot of them. Im married, and Im not blind, so all that does for me is make my neck ache.

For me, I would prefer to LIVE in Flagstaff, and know that I'm only a few hours from Phoenix. Unfortunately there never seems to be any fire departments hiring there. I dont think anyone ever moves from that city. >:(

Good luck

I think you're right Chad, that would be the perfect combo. Flagstaff has a decent climate and still gets a little snow. Great party town too!

I really love the Sholow (sp?) area, used to go up there camping and fishing with my dad and grandfather.  Beautiful area, but cold in the winter.

I kinda like the Sedona area. Very scenic. Red rock canyon and such. Sholo is nice. Had to land there for fuel once. Isn't that on the White River Apache reservation.?

Sedona IS really nice. You have to be ready to pay to live there though. Most people I knew that worked there, had to live outside Sedona where it was actually affordable.

Actually the northern half of AZ is pretty damn nice. I just cant do the low desert like Phoenix. The higher elevations....thats a different story.
