Thanks for letting me join in! I started losing my hair in my early 20's and was pretty much bald on top by 25 or so. I keep what's left really short but haven't had the guts to completely shave it yet. Am thinking about doing that and reducing my beard to a goatee. Any words of encouragement?

Welcome Baldredhead. you have found the right place. most everyone here would say to shave it. if it is short already, then it can grow back quickly if you don't like it ( which i highly doubt ) try it. you may like it. i sure do. Paul

Welcome, Redmeister!!!
Don't quickly discount what Paul said about the fact that it will quickly grow back if you don't like it.
It's sorta like a "satisfaction guaranteed" "win-win" situation.
Armed with that mindset...I went for it...but I kept it shaved 'cause I like it so much.
I would say give it a shot. If you have work collegues/clients that yer concerned about....maybe take a Friday off....shave it Thursday afternoon...if it freaks you out too much (which we here at SBG doubt) you'll have 3 days of growth when you go back to work.

Welcome to Sly Bald Guys!
I think the goatee is a great choice. If you are on the fence here's what you could do: You might want to shave down to a goatee before you shave your head. Get used to that, and then go for the noggin.
You will not be dissapointed. It will take a little getting used to, but I can't even remember what I looked like before I shaved.
Go for it!

I say go for it! There's nothing more liberating in this world than shaving your dome. Gotees are always nice with a nice, clean, bare noggin, too! Like the others have said, if you don't like it, it grows back FAST. Just make sure you give it enough time to grow on you (haha) and I'm sure you'll love it. It'll make you look years younger, too.

Welcome to the forum baldredhead, I agree with the others, (what a shocker). You snould shave it, and going by what I see in your profile pic, it will suit you well.
-
Welcome Baldred, glad to have you with us. From pic I'd say you should definitely go for it. You got a good dome there and you will definitely like the freedom that being sly brings.
-
Well what is left to say after all the smart guys... how 'bout welcome to the group, Redhead! ...or should I say soon Baldhead? ???

Trying to find the right words of encouragement.........hhhhhhmmmmmmmm ::)
SHAVE IT RED!!!
-
welcome red....i was at your spot a week ago.....and in prob worst shape since i was balding on sides also......i'd say go ahead a shave it......if you have a few days off work..that would help you adjust to the change before going back...definetly go to the goatee!
-
Thanks for all the advice and words of encouragement. I think I may start with my beard this weekend and see how things go. I gotta admit, I really like the sly look. I just have to convince myself that I can pull it off as well as you guys have. I'll keep you all posted.

Welcome baldredhead, happy to have you here.
I echo what has already been said, I think you should shave. You owe it to yourself to try it out. The freedom, the ease, the comfort are just some of the things that make shaving the only choice for me.
Go for it Red, you won't be sorry.

Welcome BRH!
Confidence is the key... sly or not!

Welcome! I'm really glad you like the site and decided to join us. I look forward to getting to know you.

Hey Baldredhead,
I could be wrong, but I am thinking that since your remaiing hair is red, you might not have much of a shadow when you shave your head. That could possibly be an advantage to shaving you head too. I also think you probably have a great head shape to pull off the shaved head look. Get to it and see what you have been missing!

Well, I reduced the beard to a goatee yesterday. Neither my wife or daughter has noticed yet. What does that tell you? I'll see if anybody at the gym or my office notices. I'm not sure I like it. I've had the full beard for about 10 years so it may take a while to get used to something different. I'm working on getting up the nerve to shave the head. I'll keep you posted.

:) Welcome, Baldredhead. I think Marsh is right about your not having any shadow once you take the plunge. Just remember the sunscreen, as the warm weather comes on. Professor Melon

BRH....chances are you will look BETTER than some, most or ALL of us.
I hope you don't mind me being brutally honest....
Right now with that hair on the sides, you definitely look OLDER than 47...
If/When you shave the bean you will look YOUNGER than your years. O0

I have found that no matter how much or how little hair a guy has, it is most of the time a hard decision to shave all the way. Give it a try and hope you enjoy it. Been this way since Christmas and won't go back.
Welcome and keep us posted.

Hey Baldredhead!
As for having a full beard and shaved head, that is a look that can work too. I too had a full beard for many years myself. I think that if it is trimmed and kept short, it can look really good. But then again, Medicineman has a great looking really full beard with the shaved head too. Since you trimmed the beard to the goatee already, I would go ahead and proceed with the shaved head. But after you get used to the shaved head, you can then grow back the full beard. Just keep us in touch!
