Title: Hello all...
Post by: halcyonku on August 09, 2009, 09:43:40 PM
I am nearly 30.  I should have shaved it all off 3 or 4 years ago, that said, this is the best decision I've made in a long time.  I look much better bald.  My wife says she likes it better too, but I did it for myself.  This feels great.

Sites like this made my decision easier knowing that others had gone through the same gut retching thought processes I've been going through for the last few years.  I used to have beautiful hair (probably got lucky a few times in my teens because of it) but I look damn good bald.  Meaner perhaps, but better too.

I have found only two drawbacks:
1.  I have a convertible.  It is hard to remember that I will fry my head quickly and it gets hot rather fast up there now.
2.  I have noticed that I am more likely to rub/bump by head against things when before even my short hair would give me a few millimeters of warning before my head struck something solid.

Overall, a great decision.

I've been a lurker for a while, but I just wanted to introduce myself now that I've taken the plunge.  Feels great.    @c3 O:O :@`

Welcome to the SBG Family halcyonku,

We're glad that you decided to join us, there are a lot of great people here on this forum. I think that it's awsome that you did this for yporself and even better that your wife loves it too, that is a definate plus. I can also tell that you have lots of self confidence, wich is also a BIG plus.

Dont think about what you call drawbacks as such, think of it this way.

1. With the right protection, when driving your convertible with the top down you will never have a bad hair day!!
2. Now you have a little more head clearance when walking through shorter doorways or hallways.

Again welcome to the family, now jump right in and make yourself at home.

Welcome!  (And post a pic :))

You just have to remember to keep that sunscreen in the glove box of your convertible.  I keep one in the car, one at the office and one at home so that there is never an excuse for me to forget to use it.  I have had second degree sunburn on my forehead before and don't want to relive that experience.

I have been bumping into things a lot lately too.  It is like my brain subconsciously thinks I gained a couple more inches of headroom.  From what I read on here, it is a common problem.  I guess we just need to find a way of installing backup sensors to alert us when we are getting too close to something.  Then again, I don't want to give people reasons to ridicule me for the garbage truck beeping sound every time I back up.  They would have to be inaudible, but a proximity sensing dog collar wouldn't be such a hot idea either.    And something that vibrated might just be too darn enjoyable  ;)

But I am open to ideas.

Welcome to the fray. Being short has let me get away with not bumping my head in years. I hope shaving hasn't changed my luck yet.

Hal, welcome to the forum.  Always good to have new blood amoungst us.  As you stated, the head is more prone to get bumped, and scratched.  It's a b@#^&* doing yard work. Please come often and talk away.

Welcome.  I drive a convertible too and it's a change from air through the hair to wind on the skin.  Keep a hat in the car, and NEVER leave the house w/o at least 30spf or better sunscreen--that applies whether or not you're driving.  For long times in the sun, I cover up, and it's hot here so sometimes it's so hot, so humid, the top is up for a/c anyway.
