Hey all! I have a question about people's experience w/ Headslick (sorry if this topic has already been discussed)
I do not currently use it (I'm currently using the cheapy Walgreen brand, which works fine!), but I have used it some in the past and it seemed to do the job quite well.
My question is, I've read before that mentholated shaving creams are bad because the menthol can close the pores (presumably causing a rougher shave or more irritation). I personally never had any issues with it, although i didn't use it for too long. Just wondering what your experience Headslick or other mentholated products has been and if there is any truth to this warning.

From my experience, headslick is "ok" but not great. My skin gets irritated
unless I use a new blade. From my experience, the best shaving cream/gel
for eliminating irritation is Bald Guyz Shave Gel.
Having said that, there is a trade-off. With Bald Guyz Shave Gel you might
get some cuts if you are not careful when going against the grain. With headslick
that did not happen to me, but my skin can get irritated easily unless I use a new blade.

I've never had a problem with HeadSlick. I "pre-treat" with about 10 drops of Shave Secret oil and it seems to work great. ::)

Headslick is a great product. The best way to use it is with a brush.

Brush--a much ignored but wonderful tool. I put the HS in a brush that has been flushed w/ hot water, add a little baby oil, then lather it up. Wonderful shave, and enough product in the brush to lather again for the against the grain experience. A little astringent, like hydrogen peroxide or witch hazel. and some shaving balm, head feels like a baby's butt and a million dollars.

I've used HeadSlick for over a year now and have never had a problem with it. I just use it straight out of the bottle. Everyone has different skin types I guess.

I've been having some skin problems lately and wondered if the mentholated Headslick might be part of the problem. I switched to Aveeno a few weeks ago. It doesn't seem to have made any difference. It's hard to say because this is the type of thing that seems to be on the verge of completely clearing up when it suddenly flares up again.

Are you using an anti-bacterial soap like Cuticura, it's mild and formulated for acne? What about a little 10% benzoyl peroxide gel? I think you said you were going to try the loofha pad--did it help? Can you make any food connection--like an allergy?

I'm using The King Of Shaves Clear Gel. You can find it at Target or CVS. For me it provides the most lubrication and protection against cuts than with anything I've found. My Headslick bottle sits on the shelf.
They also make a Shaving Oil which is at CVS. I've used another brand of shaving oil before and I might give theirs a try next time.

I use Headslick with about 5 drops of baby oil or Edge Shaving Gel.

I've been using Cuticura for a while and some foam the dermatologist gave me and Neutrogena dandruff shampoo. The loofa seemed to irritate it more, so I was waiting to get it good and under control before resuming that.
I need to find another dermatologist. I had an appointment -- or so I thought -- last Monday. Specifically arranged to work at home that day so I could slip away for the appointment, only to be told when I got there that it "wasn't it the computer" and that they would "squeeze me in" if I didn't mind waiting all afternoon. Well, I did mind and said so on no uncertain terms. The receptionist got an attitude and I stormed out, slamming the door as hard as I could on the way out.
I actually think it is irritation from perspiration. I sweat profusely -- especially when I do cardio -- and it continues even after taking a cool, almost cold shower. Using wipes and washing my scalp with Cuticura a few times a day helps a bit, but it's hard to stop sweating -- and the main problem areas are not where I shave, but at the temples and my forehead where the sweat seems to collect.

Finding good responsive doctors is hard. I have gotten the best by getting a doctor I trust and know to refer me to one. It's a jungle out there for medical care--as you so well know. Most of the time it's more the nurse than the doctor who gets the history--and the doctor just does script rather than what I would call a thoughtful diagnosis.

Another suggestion is get some hydrocortisone 10% creme and 10% benzoyl peroxide gel or creme (there isn't a commercial mix of this so you have to by both)--mix in equal parts and rub into the effected areas after washing and cleaning w/ an astringent for oily skin. The BP will work on the pimple part of the issue, and the cortisone works on reducing the inflamation. Do it morning and night--it should not leave any visible residue after application. I used this combination for years to control my problem acne. If you have some really rough spots, leave a dot of the bp on it at night before going to bed.

I'll give it a try. Thanks for the tip.
