Title: weird sensation?
Post by: SultanofSwing86 on July 18, 2009, 06:32:55 PM
I'm not really sure how to describe this, but does anybody else occasionally sense a weird almost throbbing sensation on their bald head? For me it occurs on the back of the head, possibly as that is where there is more hair? It is not painful, just seemingly slightly unusual, I'm not worried about it on a medical sense, just curious to know if it is normal.
I have only been shaving for 3 weeks, almost daily, I don't think that my skin is necessarily irritated by shaving. My interpretation would be that perhaps it is my heads reaction to not having accustomed to having no hair and some form of sensory perception similar to how people experience missing limbs, with the nerves not having adjusted to the change from the norm. Does anybody else have any experience of this or any ideas on the cause?

Numb, yes, but only for a while.  A sensation that there's a constant breeze, but again, only for a while.  That's all I remember, nearly two years ago.

It's normal, that "virgin" skin is just extra sensitive, having not been exposed to the air or light much before.

What Dome of Steele said.  Enjoy it, it won't last long sadly.

Bro I still get that after almost two years occasionally. Shouldn't be anything to worry about, if it is we are both in trouble  :o

Assuming its not some freaky medical problem  :XX, it's mildly enjoyable, though a little distracting if your are trying to concentrate on something important.

MIne was sort of a tingling sensation.  It lasted about 2 weeks.  It just disappeared one day.

Been a week sly tonight.  The numb feeling is nearly gone at least on the top of my head.  I did not shave this evening when I got home from work thought the stubble was really coming in.  5 o'clock shadow on the scalp.  Go figure.

But as the numbness fades, my scalp seems more tender than it used to.  I have been using plenty of sunscreen and do not have sunburn or anything odd going on.  In fact, my head cleared up considerably in complexion from what it was just before I shaved.  It is just sore to run my hand against the grain.

Anyone else have this experience?  Is it just that after being numb for a week it is hyper-sensitive?  Anything I should be concerned about?  Or am I just touching it too much?

No dry skin.  I keep it well moisturized.  Once in the morning after shaving, in the afternoon after washing with a headwipe and in the evening before bed after washing again.

Scalps are tender, it's a pleasant fact.  I found Nivea Extreme to provide the best restorative after shaving.  Shaving can irritate the skin, even though it will also remove a lot of skin problems.  Keep it clean, and it will get more tolerant.
