Guys-
With the impending pick up of my new bike this week I'm looking to buy a helmet. I've been away from Cycles for 15 years and some things have changed.
So tell me what helmet you have and why.

" NO " Helmets required in MINNESOTA-- ya hoo !.........But a certain bunch of weak minded people >you know who they are< are trying there best too change that law..Why must they stick there noses in everyones business...............I enjoy riding with no helmet most of the time...But on occasion i might throw one on ""weather permitting"............................ There are no helmet laws here in Pa. either,,,,but I'll wear one.... I have a million dollar head. ;) :*)) :*))

I have 2 open face helmet from http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/
They get the job done but you don`t feel like your head is in an oven. Please post a photo when you get your bike O0

In Texas, it's no-helmet-if-you're-insured. But I wouldn't be caught dead not wearing one... oh, wait...

Sorry Mike, in Illinois the right to choose still exists, so no helmets here.

In the Nanny State that used to be Great Britain we have to wear helmets. I think I'd wear one all the time anyway, but it would be nice to have the option.
I'm a sports bike rider and go for a full face helmet all the time.
Roof RO20 at the moment and before that a Roof RO10.
I like the look and have found them to be very comfortable. They are also meant to be one of the quietest helemts available. I often wear ear plugs if I'm doing any distance though.
Whatever you choose, get one that fits properly and is comfortable. There's nothing worse than wearing a helmet that gives you headaches, and if it moves around it is probably more of a risk to you in an accident than having no helmet at all.

This is an interesting topic.. the freedom to choose is great, a bike ride in the open air and without a helmet would be awesome, however the consequence of not being protected are too great. I've ridden dirt bikes in the past and I always wear a helmet.
A head injury can leave you a very different person or worse even. I sound "soft" but I'd rather keep my faculties together all for the sake of putting a helmet on my dome.

I'm definetly a helmet guy but I do like having the "choice" of if I want to wear one or not.

Consider a "flip front".
Cool in the summer with the option of more protection if you want to pull the chin bar down.
Roof Boxer looks cool (IMHO)
Caberg is meant to be good budget
Schuberth if you're feeling slightly wealthier.
I don't know what brands are available that side of the pond.
But like I said in the earlier post, get one that fits and is comfortable. Different shaped heads suit different helemts.

Actually she's encouraging me NOT to wear one... but she also wants me to add emergency phone numbers to my wallet.....Hmmmmmmmm.......

You may not die...right away; but all it takes is one good bug or chunk of road tar on your noggin to convince yourself that you need some sort of protection. ;)
I've ridden with full helmets and open helmets. Right now, I'm sporting a 3/4 helmet (open chin) with clear face shield and wrap around sun glasses, which minimizes crud flying in my eyes. O:O
Just today, a co-worker-biker told me about the time he laid his bike down after a drunk sideswiped him, when it was winter time. He had a snow suit on (to keep warm) and one side of it was sort of melted from the road friction where he slid. Oh, his helmet was totally trashed on the right side. It was a 3/4 helmet. He now sports a modular (flip-up front) helmet. Tonight I went shopping for a modular helmet. O0 There are some good ones out there for under $200. The H-D stores carry their own for a bit more; if their graphics and logo is what you want. C#)P
Oh, and don't forget a decent bike jacket (not the one from the men's shop at the mall). Get something with ballistic protection on the elbows and such. They also have zip out linings so you don't bake in the sun, like I do with my leathers. :D And wear a decent pair of boots with some protection; sneakers and flip-flops don't give you ankle support when you need it.

I would get this best helmet I could to protect my sly dome. I wouldn't get on a bike without one.

Helmets and boots are a must for me when I ride. I've always worn full face helmets.... I'm going to geta modular because I like the protection of the favce when in the down position but I like the convenience of the flip up.

Full protection is the only way to go Mike. I used a full face and had no problem with it.
When something gets kicked up from the road and just glances off your face shield, you'll be glad you had it.
There's so many choices now, and the flip up is very functional as well.
Very good points by Nonick. I recommend you get yourself a good jacket and boots too. You want to have the best protection you can get. Hopefully you never have to find out, but it's good to know it's there if you need it.

So I bought a helmet this evening. I bought a Fulmer M1 Modular ($150).
It gets pretty nice reviews, especially for this price point, and fits me like a glove.
I wasn't familiar with Fulmer but have been seeing them in a lot of accessory store. I did a little research and they've been around about 40 years.
I love the flip up face bar.
I've seen a pair of Milwaukee boots that I want in two separate places but neither place had my size.
I bought summer gloves last weekend.,......
