Hey everyone,
Been doing a lot of thinking lately (more than usual) about my hair and what I'm gonna do..and well there's not really anyone around to talk about with so a search from google put me here. I'm 21..been balding since I was about 16. As I look back, it was never as bad as I thought it was..but its at the point now that I have to have a hat on all the time..and i'm starting to get headaches from it. I'm having a lot of problems dealing with it..because i feel and look so much older than all my friends. It sucks, because I really liked how I used to look..I was confident. Now I don't even want to go downtown or talk to girls.
Bah!
Literally 1-2 friend know this, but I also had a hair transplant. It worked to a degree, just not as much as I had expected.
Does anyone have experience/know about them?
I'm having such a hard time deciding what to do haha. It's so bad.
Nice to make all your acquaintances

Welcome to SBG Steve!!! There are plenty of men here that can relate more than you could imagine. Stick around.....read some posts....and post frequently! One thing that would really help us is if you were to post a picture! No worries.....just let the bros here know what you're working with!!
Have fun and don't let the old baldness get ya down.

Welcome to the Forum Steve! If you reache the point of "plugs" and aren't happy with it why not try buzzing it down and then maybe even give shaving a try.
-
Hey Steve! Welcome aboard the bald train ! Just take a deep breath and pull back a bit and relax as we comfort you! Okey? How much scalp was transplanted? Can you still pull a good buzzcut? Guys your age should not spend money on poopie plugs and learn how value-less they are! With time and a good razor and shave cream, this bad experience will pass ! Hang in there !

A shaved head is temporary - it quickly grows back if you don't like it. Chances are once you do it, you'll like it and not want to go back. Now that you're 21, you can consider it your "adult" look.

Dude, I feel for you. A lot of the guys on here have gone through similar agony over the issue of balding. I did. However, I never got plugs or went down the Propecia track. Luckily, I found this forum first and then made an informed and emotional decision. I can tell you, without a doubt, that shaving my head was the best thing that I ever did. It gave me confidence that I have not felt in a long time. I wish that I had done it much sooner. Sincerely.
The guys on here will give you good advice. Post a pic and let us give you an honest opinion. You already know the answer, but it does help to hear it from other guys who have gone through the same issues.
When you do decide to shave it, give it 30 days. Take that time to find your new confidence and really "work" the shaved look. I guarantee that you'll be much happier. You just have to have a little thicker skin and brush off the stupid comments that some of your friends might make.
Good luck Steve!

Welcome to SBG's Steve, you've come to the right place for encouragement and help from guys who have already gone down the path you're headed.
Bem's post pretty much covered it, and I also suggest reading as many posts as you can, plenty of stories from the bro's who have been through it.
If you feel comfortable with it, try buzzing it down first, see how that feels and then go from there. Once you shave however, I will bet you'll be saying "I wish I had done this sooner". Plenty of us have.
Good luck and keep us posted on your progress. O0

Hey Steve, welcome to Sly Bald Guys!! We're here to help, so just let us know how we can.
There are guys here who have had transplants and now shave, so you're not alone.
-
Steve, first off, let me welcome you to the forum. These guys are the best. I didn't go though the mind problems as you are, but hated my hair. Always wore a hat to cover the unruly mess. My neighbor was instrumental in my going sly. Thanks to him and to the guys on this site for liberating me. I bet once you decide the sly route, you will never look back.
Best of luck on your decisions and we are behind you in whatever decision you make.

Hard to add much to the great advice already given you by the other bros, so I will just say Welcome and continue to speak up with you questions and concerns. These guys are full of info and support.

Glad to see you have tuned into the best forum on the web. I agree with several of the guys- read as many past posts as you wish to hear what those whom have become SLY over the past few years felt before and after. And as some guys did, maybe try the buzz before shaving but I feel its like walking into the ocean slowly, feeling a little chill for a while compared to just diving in and only feeling the chill once-then its over.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome, I really appreciate it!
Everyone here seems keen on shaving..haha I guess that is what the websites basically all about--being sly.
I had the transplant 2-3 years ago and they put it where my hairline was at the time..and I feel that a buzz would just accent how sparse it is. Looks like shaving might be the way to go. Hey, at least it'll give me a great excuse/confidence to work out and be that guy.
I'll get a picture up in a little bit.
Thanks again

Hi Steve,
Welcome to SBG. I've never been in your shoes but I would have been devastated to have started losing my hair at 16. I would have tried anything and everything back then. If you had a totally bald head back in the late 70's - early 80's, it was not the norm. Today, it is totally normal for a dude to have a smooth head. You won't be looked down upon. Sure it may take your friends and family time to get used to it, but you should give it the 30 day trial run. I'm almost at 60 days and loving it.

Steve - shave it smooth. It is a huge confidence booster and it gives the impression of confidence to everyone you meet. Good luck.
