Hey everyone,
This is my first post although I've been browsing and reading all the wonderful encouragement and reasons to go sly for quite some time now. I'd like to say that you guys are doing a wonderful job in helping out others with their dilemmas.
Briefly about myself. I'm 29 years old and was born with a rather large forehead, thin hair and a weird shaped skull (flat in the back too). So as you can see, I have pretty much most of the problems others have all in one package. I've noticed with a large forehead, trying to comb the hair back makes it looks even bigger and trying to comb it down gives off the impression that you're trying to conceal something you're not proud of. For a while I've been wearing a cap on the weekends when I go out with my friends and they always asked me why I'm wearing a cap. Those days are now over, I have taken the initial step towards being sly.
I went out the barber and got my hair shaved with a "1". I'll link the before and after pictures once they get approved. I have to say that I'm liking it. No more hassle of facing the wind, brushing it down or worrying about your hair looks on a rainy day. The only thing that's keeping me from going totally sly is the shininess of my head. My forehead is already shiny and I'm not sure if I wanna go for the all out crystal ball look. Hmm... any advice?

Cheech, welcome to Sly Bald Guys! I'd say give shaving a shot. You'll never know if you don't. Plus it will only take a bit to grow it out to a #1.

welcome cheech. like tyler said, it would grow back to a #1 pretty quick. as for shiny? i am jealous. i hated shine when i first shaved but once i got comfortable with sly, i love the shine. hope you enjoy the forum and participate often. paulie

Don't worry about things you can't control. I have a shiny head, too, but there is nothing I can do about it other than wipe it off with a wet paper towel. That gets rid of the shine until my skin generates the next layer of oil. Oh well, some say that if you have oily skin, you'll get less wrinkles as you age. Congrats on your first step - buzzing it down... now on to the next step. You won't know how much you like it until you try.

It's all been said, shiney-good, it will gow back, your problems aren't unique (that's a common misconception by the guys about to take the leap). So, conclusion, shave it keep it shaved for thirty days., and get out from under all that concern about hair. Oh, by the way, head flat in back--my worry was my head was too long. So, the take away is, shave it, you're going to like it. O:O

When my hair was getting thinner the scalp was shining through which I didn't like at all.
But now after some time of being sly I love the shine. Sometimes I catch myself looking into some store window just to check out the reflection on the dome :-[
My head is also flat in the back, but nobody ever said a word about it so don't worry about that.
Like the others said, give it a try, you might like it 8)

Welcome, Cheech.
We are all our own most outspoken critics. We look in the mirror each day, and nobody else points out our "faults" as often as we do to ourselves.
I think the best part about going sly is that we learn from our experience that for most people that we meet, our self perceived "faults" are really a non-issue. When I was loosing my hair, people would joke about it, but once I went sly, nobody said a thing.
Try it. If you find you don't like it, you can always go back, but few ever do.
Good day to you.

Welcome Cheech. I would kill for a shiny forehead to go with my bald head. Like the others have said, it doesn't take but only week to go from bald to a #1. Go for it, give it 30 days and you'll love it! Guaranteed or you can have your hair back. 8)

Welcome Cheech! The others have said it all. But I did want to just give you thumbs up and hope that you stick with it and more importantly to keep it bald (shave every day) for 30 days

Try it out. The shine looks good. But some guys have said the "Matte" Lotion curves the shininess a bit. I don't remember the name (but somebody post it if you know the name).
Welcome Cheech, but isn't Chong the Asian guy?! ;)

Cheech,
you mention that you have a large forehead, the thing is that if you go sly, nobody can tell where the forehad ends and the head begins.. I think you'll enjoy the slick head.
if you're down to a #1 now, go for it and shave it now while it's this short, if you aren't happy you can get back to a #1 in just a few days.
The 30 day trial is the best thing.

Cheech,
looking at your photo (must have just been approved)
it looks like you are sly already, go for it now... You'll be happy with it. O0

It looks good Cheech - I just checked out the pics.

Thanks guys, appreciate all the feedback. I'm still hesitating about shaving all the way mainly due to the fact that I'm in Japan and to have long, vibrant hair is to be cool. I went into work with the 1 buzz and people thought I was out of my mind. The older people thought I turned into a deliquent and the younger people thought I looked better having hair.
I haven't seen ONE totally bald guy yet in Japan. Even the older people are holding on dearly to what's left of their hair and the shortest I've seen is a buzz cut. About 80% (from observation, not statistics) of Japanese males in their 20s all have medium - long hair. It's hard to find acceptance here I guess since baldness / MPB are rare among Japanese people (I'm not Japanese).
Nevertheless, I'll keep buzzing it for awhile until people are used to seeing me with short hair. I'm also letting my mustache and goatee grow out to see if it suits me. All I know is that there's no turning back for me now. If I start growing my hair out too long people can definately tell I'm thinning.
We'll see what happens.
