So I shaved a bit more than a month ago
My wife was just going on a 2.5 week vacation when I took the plunge.
My Wife arrived home and she HATED it - I had promised her before that I would not shave down completely - so I was stuck growing some hair back in, I did give her my word
so I grew it out for two weeks -
- now - with her input I've got it clipped down to clippered, no guard , she actually likes it - I'm hoping that with a bit more time I can get her on board with the total shave
anyone else have a wife with similar views?
-
Well my wife is similar in this respect, she hates it. But after 20 months, she very rarely comments anymore. Envy the guys w/ some acceptance from the spouse. At least all my friends and hers ;D ;D ;D like it. Her friends' reaction gets to her >:D.
-
My wife wasn't too sure about it at first but now, after almost a year, she is very pro-SLY. Give your wife time. She'll probably come around.
-
my wife couldnt care less at this point but was puzzled during the early stages.
-
My wife still likes mine best clippered with no guard. I think she's crazy. Sly is so much better. What I did was give her what she wanted for a while. Once she was used to that, I just started shaving. She mentioned it the other day. I just acted innocent and rubbed my head. 8) I think it's growing on her. No pun intended.
-
my wife loves it
-
My girlfriend likes it, after all she first saw me and was attracted to me with a shaved head, my family on the other hand are not so sold. . I still get the "don't know why you continue to shave it all off" comment.. I first shaved it about 10 years ago and only now and again grow it out. My work mates never comment one way or another, except when I am lazy and some stubble shows, they say "about time you had a shave". :px

I think slick's approach was a good one!
One side note... more often than not, women get their hair cut / colored without as much as a word spoken to their spouse about what they are having done. So why doesn't that apply to guys? Just a thought.
-
Dawgfan, fair does not mean equal. :Xo! Didn't they teach you that in gradeschool? When it comes to spouses, there are no rules! ^-^
-
Dawgfan is right! I don't remember the wifey consulting me the last time she had her stylist put highlights in her hair. What's good for the goose is good for the gander, no? We all know the real answer to that one. But, at least we have a good argument! Thanks Dawgfan.

my wife loves it. and so does her friends. and that gets to her too.... haha.
what can we do when we look so good, right? >:D

That's what I do, SlickA...when it rarely comes up, I just ignore it and chuckle while rubbing my bald head and looking like I'm trying to recall that agreement.
But another one that works with her is to explain, "In order to achieve the stubble look, I have to start with a shaved head."
Works every time and ends the discussion.
-
I did what SlickA did also...I kept going closer and closer until I was clippered with no guard and said I wanted to shave it slick a few times. When I told her I was shaving it slick, she said, knowing me, she knew it was coming... and wasn't surprised. When she saw it the first time she was a bit unsure, but shes always supportive of what I want to do. She likes it now and gives it a rub at times.

The Lovely Mrs. Schro still hates it, but knows ..."DON'T GO THERE". I got pretty f-in' irate the last time she threw in a comment.
I love being sly, I love the complete relief from sebhorreic dermatitis, and I love the look.
SLY FOR LIFE. 8)

My wife encouraged me to shave off my Bozo the Clown wings by saying" I think you'll look younger" so I went Sly, May, 2008. Although she likes the look but she doesn't like to rub it!
-
My wife HATED the look when I first shaved. She never says a thing anymore. I still don't think she PREFERS it, but the look has grown on her. It was such a drastic change that I think it just took her some time to get used to it. I've been sly for more than a year now and would have a really tough time growing it back. Besides, the MPB is getting more and more pronounced. If you like it sly, keep it sly. The worst thing you can do is keep going back and forth. I learned that from experience. Make your decision and stick with it and I'll bet your wife will come along.
-
Baldy46, I think you are completely right. Make the decision and stay with it. I think each time you grow it out a little the critics start to nag. One particular woman in my office continues to question me in the most annoying manner as to "Why do you do that"? She is a little out of touch with current social norms and she is about to be told to frig off! :x!
-
i jokingly told my lay-day that i was gonna let it grow for awhile. she looked at me stupid and went get my razor and shave gel. she then tells me "you can shave it or i can shave it. but you need to shave!" sweeeeet!

I'd say VERY VERY LUCKY, wish it was my world. :(

Yeah, what Saint said. :'(

My wife never says anything, but she hated it when I did it almost 5 years ago. I think she just accepts that this is who I am and certainly doesn't want me to do the drugs, rugs, plugs, etc... alas, still no head rubs. :(
-
and i get head rubs OFTEN!! >:D
-
My wife loves it...she always has from day one....she was more pro-sly than me before I shaved.
I was basically "holding onto scraps" IMO and I will never go back to having hair.
-
my wife and the women at work prefer me clean-shaven. Added note here: I see a lot of guys in NYC (ages say 25-60) who now shave their heads and had major tranplanted work (at least 1,000 grafts I'd Say). If they can do it; we certainly can do it whether its hot or cold.
-
My girl doesnt care, she just thought i was crazy for going sly in november when its cold.

Sqbaldie:
Did your wife change her mind yet?
-
My Wife's reaction hasn't changed -
snuck in a head shave in there -
she's definitely not a fan at all - and there appears to be a consensus amongst the women if our office - buzzed without a guard good - shaved bad - I'm okay with the buzz - honestly it appears to matter more to them than to me
Funny moment - the new guy in our office showed up for his first day at work - he's taken the plunge and gone down to a no guard buzz - the one other guy in the office is now probably going for it - who would think the guy with the crew cut would be the long hair -
we'll be the bald guys office soon - funny outcome for all the ladies who have had strong opinions - they got me to grow a little stubble and two other guys going from average business man cuts to buzzed - I don't think that was quite where the ladies in my office thought this would go -
-
Good news my wife has come around, she's actually becoming a fan of bald.
What I thinked changed things for me:
a) passage of time;
b) showed respect, since I lived up to my word (Stupidly had told her that I wouldn't shave again unless she was in agreement) bald was not tied to unhealthy, you lie sentiments;
c) tanned head, much less of a hairline effect, so all you lurkers, buzz it down now to take advantage of the summer sun (with sunscreen);
d) fitness, I've been working out a lot - I don't know why bald seems to encourage working out but it sure has done that for me;
e) cleaner, my wife is a clean freak, she noticed no hair = no shed, just rinse out the sink well and its all good
f) attention - I think most women like it when other women pay attention to their men, and I have gotten a lot more attention; and
g) my own comfort with the whole damned thing - I showed up at a public event (kind of thing that gets the front page in your local paper) and was bald for all to see - no biggy for anyone - and easier - it was windy - everyone else had to try to make sure their hair didn't look too stupid in the photos that were being taken -

Hey guys, just joined the SBG last night. I took the plunge the a couple of days ago and can only ask myself why I didn't shave sooner. My wife comes home today from a trip visiting her family in indiana. She freeked the last time I got my head buzzed so I am really not sure how she will react to my shaving smooth. Hopefully she will get over it quickly....... Any advice on how to handle the wife????
-
Duck :D :D :D :D
-
Yep - have fun with that one -
I think the common thread in all of the "wife woes" appears to be persaverance
My wife has backed away from being a fan - but she's really mellowed out about the whole thing - our compromise appears to be I give her stubble for a few days - shave it down - grow back a bit -kind of a hair style rotation - only works because she likes my hair buzzed down as tight as it can go just not shaved - only really negative is a day of two of velcro head every week
-
Thankfully I am one of the apparent lucky ones. My wife loves the dome! She rubs it all the time ;)
She told me I was NOT to grow my hair back, as she wouldn't know who I was.
I can also say that my kids love it. They get a kick out of being somewhere and someone referring to their dad as the bald guy.
