Hey all!

Until December, I had a full head of long hair. I worked in a shop that fabricates Corian countertops and the dust from that and the woodworking that went on was turning my mane into a mess of brittle, knotted locks and I was just done. I was tired of shampoo,conditioner, detangling spraysand brushes. I had actually considered a shave back in November, but put the idea on hold until warmer weather.

The new year brought a layoff and I had to look presentable for job interviews. I had my mop hacked off to a #2 on the sides and a #4 on top. Quite a change and one I really liked.

On Memorial day I decided to get it trimmed once again, the second trim since the Grand Shortening. I told my barber in a last minute "Aaahh, what the heck?" moment to shave it off. He buzzed it down, but decided not to razor it because of a couple of angry dry looking areas that he wanted to see cleared up.

3 days of tea tree moisturizer later and I just went straight for the headblade. I've been shaving every morning or every other morning since.

My wife was a fan of the curls, so she isn't a supporter of the new look. Many who remember me before think the change is for the better. I really like the look and think I was blessed with an exceptionally cool skull.

I will at least keep it for the summer. We'll see how long into the New England winter I can stand it.

Welcom to the forum. Sly looks good on you. Hopefully your wife will warm up to the new look. The brotherhood that you just joined is a great one. You'll find lots of good advice.

This past weekend, my wife and I (we are "Straight but not narrow" as they say) vended her henna art at a Pride event in Hartford. I looked around and it was like the goatee/shave combo was a freaking uniform. I ahould have set up a Headblade booth, lol.

I've had a female friend tell me that with my "bearish" physique" and the new look, If I were gay I could get a lot of mileage. Lol. I said I'd keep it in mind...

It is just this week that my scalp is getting used to the shaving and being out in the open. My neck is still kinda bumpy but the tea tree aftershave lotion is helping that. I did pick the least sunny couple weeks in this area to shave, so getting the face/scalp tan match has been a challenge.

I shave the head in the shower, but still need to do my face in the mirror. It's getting pretty quick and easy up top. Yay Headblade!

The pic below is for a before and after comparison. It is from 2 years ago, so the hair was a bit longer before the shearing, but you get the idea!

She encouraged me to shave off my "Crusty the Clown" wings, saying "you'll look younger". I think you look younger- for whatever that's worth?

Post by: DaSkalp on June 12, 2009, 07:00:18 PM: If I had MPB as a reason, I'm sure she'd be more supportive. We've been together for 18 years and she is just so used to having the curls to play with. She'll get used to it and maybe get to like it, but I am not banking on it.

When I first got back with the new headstyle, she had a look of shock and alarm. Later I went out for some errands and when I returned laden with shopping bags, she had a moment of fear, thinking some scary strange man had broken in.

She was partly right!
