I am saving up to purchase my first kilt from www.utilikilts.com (http://www.utilikilts.com) (here in Seattle) and was wondering how many of my sly-brothers already wore them or how many had aversions to them. I've heard a lot of fun/good things about wearing them and very few negatives. Obviously you have to be confident and not worried about what people think of you (which most of us already are) and I've never paid much attention to 'public' opinion of me anyway so I'm taking the plunge. The biggest roadblock is the cost of these things but then again the crotch and knees never wear out so I could probably wear it for years.
Even the wife is supportive, her only requirement is for me to grow my van-dyke super long again so she can braid it LOL.

I've seen guys wear them as part of formal wear, but I think it's a celebration of their heritage. The problem for a person somewhat short on Scots heritage is the tartan, whose would you use?
-
Go for it. Especially if you have the legs for it.
For me, I just show off my legs in shorts. It's not a confidence thing -- I just have no such inclination.
-
I'm with BootedBear on this one!

Here I am Sly and Pre-Sly in my Utilikilts. Like being Sly, wearing a kilt can be very liberating. ^-^
Go for it!

Sipping scotch and playing golf in Scotland is as Scottish as I get.
Kilt free zone here!

A friend of mine was told, in a shop in Edinburgh, that it is "Scottishly Incorrect" to wear a kilt to which you have no claim (based on family, military, or other honorary connections). The salesman then almost refused to sell him a tie (MacArthur) which was not his Clan. He finally persuaded him it was a gift for a friend across the pond (me) and it was his Clan.

Awesome Red!
I can't wait to get mine, might be a while but I'm definitely going for it!
-
I guess you have to be careful in public how you sit while wearing one of those! :popo
-
I don't wear one, never have, probably never will. I have nothing against it but it is not part of my ancestral heritage.

Exactly, unless you have a clan heritage is seems to this admirer of the Scotch countryside that you're going where you should not go absent a very documented invitation. That being said, don't even thing you're going to get my Black Watch tie away from this mongrel breed that doesn't include the Scotch heritage--even though I've imbibed and enjoyed a great and glorious amount of the good whisky (spelling intended!)
-
Here on the East Coast, damn near everyone has Irish/Scottish roots with a healthy mix of just about everything else. If I was going to wear one (I would if I got the chance) would be my grandmothers (Malcolm)
-
I don't know man.. I looks kind of cool. But I think I'd prefer some cargo pants.
-
A friend of mine got married in one. It looked pretty cool.
-
I have a Utilikilt that I haven't worn in a while. I have to either loose weight, or just give up and buy another one. However, I love Utilikilts. I may be 100% Middle Eastern, but I can still enjoy wearing a kilt!
-
Hey Red, you certainly look better post-sly, but the logger boots with the camo kilt is a cool look!
-
Back when I was a power lifter I'd absolutely wear one. I would look in the mirror and see a big Scottish Viking, I should have bought one and trained in it.
-
if i had one i would wear it
