Firstly I like like to say how happy I am to have found this forum, you seem like a great bunch of bald people O0, any negative thoughts I had about shaving my head bald went right out the window when I started reading the threads and posts in here.
So some about me..
Im a 28 year old guy from Australia, I work in television, but as a tech, not on-air or anything, I have been losing my hair from the front for many years now and every time I have it cut my hairdresser/tobacconist always says she wants to shave me bald, I always say "haha, maybe next time.." and have just ignored it, I often wear a hat or a beanie at work and after many years of beanie and hat Im sure that has not helped.
I saw myself recently in a work photo and it realised I look about 10 years older than everyone else my age at work because my hairline makes me look about mid to late 30's and then I remember another hairdresser once saying I would look 10 years younger if I shaved my head.
I know I should just do it and get it over with, but now I have to wait a few weeks or I will get the nick-name Britney or Brits from friends, anyway here are some pics of me now.

Hi and welcome kristian! Let me be the first to welcome you to SBG!
I will 100% agree with your hairdresser... let her shave you bald! Then go get a headblade (or razor of choice) and keep it sly! However, yes, let the Brittany thing cool down before you do it!
And by the way, what's a matter with the late 30s?? :x!
-
Welcome first of all, and glad you found us. I have had numerous people at work, and customers too, make the comment I was sporting the Britney Spears look. Then I got taken by surprise yesterday when the wife of one of my customers said she told her husband that I had a pretty head....er something like that. She was probably in her late 60's and her husband is an ex-marine and great customer of ours. I would give you the same advice we give most people, give it 30 days, and if you don't like it, it will grow back.
-
And by the way, what's a matter with the late 30s?? :x!
Nothing wrong with late 30's but when your trying to hit on and pick up 20 year old chicks it dosnt help, no offence.
-
O0 ;) Ahoy, Kristian! Man, are you ready. Let the Britney Spears thing die down, then run, do not walk, to your lady barber and tell her you're ready. After years of thinning, I took the plunge on 4th November '06. It takes less than a month to get over the shock and to identify with your new totally bald persona. After that, I haven't looked back. There's only one downside, and I do not think it applies in Australia: in metro NYC, it gets damn cold and drafty. Winter is hard on the dome but relief is no further away than the cashmere beanie my daughter gave me for Christmas. Let us know when you make your move, and send an after pic. Godspeed, Professor Melon

Hello and welcome Kristian. Not much I can say as you've already gotten great advise except GO FOR IT , once the Spears thing is over of course. Bet you will feel great. Once again glad to have you on board.
And oh yeah PigPen: her husband is an "ex-marine" Ain't no such thing. Once one, always one. Just needed to clarify that. I guess it's like I don't ever want to be known as "ex-Sly"

Very true Paul, my mistake.
-
No offense, just yanking the old redneck chain.
-
I know Paul, but I should know better. I have enough Marine friends.....lol
-
Welcome to group, kristian! We are glad you found us, too! Yup always follow the ladys advice. Shave it.
-
shave it now and when someone says something about britney, just look at them and say "BRITNEY WHO?" then glare at them and they will drop it. oh yeah, welcome.
-
Kristian, welcome to Sly Bald Guys!
As others have said, give your head a good shave. I would even say to not wait, just do it this weekend. Who cares about Britney - I doubt you'll get too many associations with her.
As for BaldRob, he's just jealous that he's old. He'll be right with you trying to pic up the 20 year old girls.
-

A. I'm not old... :x!
2. 20's a bit young for me... :/O
iii. Don't you have a Man-Date to go on? :P
-
Welcome kristian
-
I slicked my head about 3 or 4 days before Britney Spears did, and I've only gotten the jesting "Oh, you're a Britney Spears fan now?" comment twice. It's not even an annoyance, really, although I probably have fairly thick skin. I used to have my hair pretty long (well, an inch long) and I was only beginning to thin on top, so it's a bit of a shock to some people to see me now.
But given your hairline now, any ribbing you get will of course be playful, and I'm sure plenty of people will understand your decision to shave it all! Besides, Britney gave herself a buzz cut, not a shaved head!
Go for it, man, you won't regret it!
BTW, where in Australia are you at?
-
And by the way, what's a matter with the late 30s?? :x!
There's a lot wrong with looking like you're in your late 30s when you're only in your late 20s. Just as there's a lot wrong with looking like you're in your late 40s when you're in your late 30s. Nobody who's of legal age wants to look 10 years older than they actually are.
-
I agree with pburke (amazing isn't it?), do it now. To hell with that little tramp, do it for you and you'll be a happier man. O0
-
Welcome kristian! Good to see another Aussie at SBG.
Shave it now, man! You will look and feel years younger. 8)
-
Hi Kristian, I se your a newbie like me! Welcome to SBG. My suggestion is to go take it off. After I first shaved, I received compliments from female co workers that I should have shaved sooner because it made me appear younger! If you don't like the way it looks what you have will grow back.
I wouldn't worry about the Britney thing at this point. Good luck and keep us posted.
Dooj
-
Take it off man! You will never look back and wonder why you waited so long, especially when all the lay-days tell you look younger and way sexier. You won't regret it, it is so much better than looking at your head and seeing what's left everyday.
-
welcome to SBG's Kristian! i'm new here also...and just took the plunge...i have to say..i like it! i was all the way slick on top at 26 and it sucked so i know where ya coming from...but i also remember when i had half left on top like yours and that i was very MISERABLE...i was afriad to go swimming...go out on a windy day etc...you know the deal.....basically i kept saying to myself "i can't wait till its all gone!"..once it was all gone on top it was much better and i stayed like that for the next 12 yrs.....i wish shaving heads was even somewhat in style back then..i would have done it then.
from your photos it looks like you got the perfect shaped head to rock the sly look..i also think it will make you look your age instead of 10yrs older....make your hairdresser happy and make yourself happier! do it now bro....don't let brittany stand in your way.
-
Well its taken some time but, todays the day, there is no fighting it any longer. I stepped out of the shower the other morning and looked at the back of my head with a mirror for the first time in 10 years, its just as sparce as the front of my head.
I had no idea. Later that day I got to work and it was windy as all heck, walking from my car to my office had my hair all over the place and I must have looked like a crazy person to the others in the parking lot, putting my hands on my head and running through the lot avoiding the wind.
I have wanted to do this for many years, I started this thread when I first found this forum ages ago and was on the verge of total slyness, I have a nice symetrical feeling head, with no bumps or strange growths or shapes, when my hair is wet and I pull it tight at the back of my head, it looks ok. I must add that I work in a very corporate environment and heard about 5 years ago someone got scolded by managment for shaving bald, but lately a few more people have done it and it seems ok,
also we are coming into summer real soon, so it seems like a great time to ease the scalp in to a hot Aussie sun.
Anyway I have the day off work and Im gonna go get a buzz cut and we'll take it from there.
-
Just a reminder. and current hair.

Go for it mate!
-
Get the water hot, and a new blade--it's fine day to be Sly--you'll see what a pleasure shaving can be before the sun sets!
-
Kristian, welcome back! As the Nike slogan says - Just Do It! You'll love it!

Kristian, I'm also late, although when this thread first started, I had never even heard of SBG's. Hope that you have already done the deed and got on with things. I know it is hard to make the leap sometimes, but obviously you want to do and there is really no reason why you shouldn't. So, best of luck and let us know how it goes. Look forward to seeing that nice, smooth, cleanly shaved dome.

Iwent and got the number 1 buzz cut, I like it alot, my head shape looks good, I have decided I'm going to do the number 1 for a few weeks, then go to a 0, then it all comes off, wow even with a number 1 I feel great and look much better and way fresher.
(https://www.slybaldguys.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg225.imageshack.us%2Fimg225%2F5287%2Fnumber1kristianlf7.th.jpg&hash=5874d21002639307ebfb48a7a56f56337723d4ab) (http://img225.imageshack.us/my.php?image=number1kristianlf7.jpg)
Only negative was from my mother who said "you look like a serial killer..." but she was just kidding around and later said it was much better and that I should go sly.
Anyways, I will post more pics as I go.
-
Great to hear you like the "new" you. Gotta warn ya though, now the urge to go sly is going to get stronger >:D
-

Good for you; I remember how much i liked the feeling of the buzz cut... cool and a relief because there is nothing to hide (not possibe anyway). Your headshape looks good, and the goatee looks great. Any bets, my fellow sly bruthas, on how long it takes for Kristian to finish the job? I found the shorter I buzzed, the more frequent the haircuts came until I had to see my head completely smooth. Looking forward to your future pics, Kristian.
-
Kristian, good for you man! We're pretty much the same age (I'm 29) and you won't believe how much younger you'll look & feel! My slyness is to the point now that most people really can't guess my age at all and that's a cool feeling. I pretty much did what you're doing - gradually buzzing down... but I guarantee you that you'll feel even more liberated once you do go sly bro! Keep us posted!
-
kristian......hey, brah. u already look younger & more confident with the #1 buzz. my question 2 u is..."why wait for a few weeks 2 shave it with a razor?" :/O just think.... u r already looking sly with the buzz just think how u will feel & look when u "do the deed". i say go 4 it NOW.... why postpone the smooth dome? u will definitely rock the look? anyways.... post up some pics when u do the deed. i'm glad that u had the courage. man...just wait until u scrape that dome smoooth. i already know that u will b a daily shaver because IT can b very addictive? WAY 2 GO!!

Hi Kiristian
Wow man, 100% difference.
I dont really see what you were holding onto in the first place.
Put on some good music that really gets you pumped up and shave it off, you will feel such a relief.
You already look younger
-
Bro .....WAY better!
Now imagine what shaving it smooth will do for you!
-
You're standing right on the precipice of slyness. All you need to do is go a little bit shorter - 000 maybe, and the urge to just shave it clean will be so powerful and all-consuming that you just won't know any peace until you've done it. Go for it. Worst that happens is you don't like it (highly unlikely) and you spend a week growing back to #1 length.

now go and do as your mother says and scrape it clean
-
Kristian,
I am also late on this thread and apologize, but welcome to SBG. You joined way before I did and haven't tried Sly yet. Let me just say that the buzz is probably easier to manage, but you still have to manage it.
From your pic it looks like you have a greater confidence in your eyes and you look 100 percent better!
Your young, your hair will grow back, and you've come this far. I suggest you try Sly and really experience the feeling, give it a little time to set in - 30 days. I am sure you will be surprised how the last small step makes you really feel and look. Its something countries go to war over, people have fought for it for centuries, and you can have it within 10 minutes..... its called FREEDOM! O0
-
Yep ... between bouts of SLY-ness this summer, I grew my hair out to a #1 and kept it for ... a couple of days. I gave it up when I realized that nobody noticed the difference between SLY and #1.
-

Hi Kristian,
Looks good - bet you don't last the "few weeks" at number 1 buzz though .... your domes just crying out to go sly! Go for it - you won't regret it O0
-
Hey, thanks guys, I got nothing but 100 percent good coments from everone at work today, they all loved it, 3 females said I looked way younger and much better and one male co-worker asked if he could "please, touch my head" what a freak, also a young lady was checking me out while I was pumping petrol into my car tonight.
Anyway at this rate the only reason I want the number 1 for a few weeks is to get a little sun on the scalp, no doubt by this time next month I will do the sly and it will look great.
I drove to work with the window down today and it felt great, I didnt wear a hat or beanie all day for the first time in 10 years and it felt great, I looked in the mirror in the bathroom and looked younger, a few compliments from people makes you feel and behave with alot more confidence.
Thanks so much guys, its great to have a place to come to and get such great and positive support, if I have any friends thinking of going sly in the future I will most definetly send them this way without a doubt.
Pics will come.
-
Great to hear of all the positive feedback kristian. Think it's good now, just wait till you're sly >:D
-
I'm also late jumping in here. Looks real good, Kristian. I'm sure that you'll like it even more the shorter you go. Don't be afraid to go all the way. Even if by some small chance you don't like it, you're within a week of being back to where you are now.
-

You really won't be able to get much color on the dome until the hair is completely gone, so don't let that hold you back. If you're anything like me, you'll never be able to hold out for an entire month.
The first time I shaved my head it was totally unplanned. It was a Friday night before a long weekend, and I bought a pair of clippers to give myself a closer buzz than the barber had given me. They were cheap clippers and I could not get it as short as I thought I could with the #1 attachment. So I took the attachment off and tried the bare blade. After one swipe, I realized that this was WAY shorter than I'd thought it would be. I had no choice to continue. I was at maybe a 000 so I looked pretty bald. My hair had never been that short before.
I briefly thought about shaving it clean since it was so short already, but then thought, nah, I wasn't ready. I tidied up all the hair clippings and decided to put it out of my mind. That lasted about 10 minutes. The next thing I knew, I'd been in and and out of the shower and was lathered up and ready to take the Mach III to the stubble. To finally ditch my hair entirely was one of the most liberating things I've ever done. Go for it; you won't regret it.
-
Man, you will look 100% better with a clean shaven head !

Hey guys, long time no see, I do lurk often but dont say much, just an update..
Im still buzzing my head twice a week to a number 1, I have been overseas for a while in some places were the water isnt the greatest, so I was avoiding shaving it clean until after I got back, any way tonight for the first time, I went for the 0 shave with no guard on the buzzer, wow its nothing but stuble now.

Next month I turn 30, Im gonna wait until my 30th birthday to shave it clean, just so I can remember when I did it.
-
One more month with the last bit of fuzz you'll ever have on that nice dome....
completely bald is something you will LOVE bro...you're almost there!
Keep us posted on the best birthday present you could give yourself! ;)
-
Good to hear from you again and to see you took the plunge. Like BA said, you're gonna love it next month. Keep us posted bro.
-
You're looking great already!
Totally smooth will be even better!
Go for it!
-
Kristian, Dude..... total improvement.
Even if you don't shave you look like a new person. Very confident! O0
But I gotta say that where your at right now is 3 days growth at the most, so the next 3 day weekend you have go for slick, I promise you won't be disappointed 8)
-
OK at first I had to say how in the hell did I miss this post...well I guess it was started way back in Feb of 2007 ..way before I even thought about shaving it. Well I must say it is a definite improvement. I dont mean in any way shape or form to hurt your feelings or anything but I really dont see a reason why you were always telling your barber/hairdresser ."maybe next time" well I think that next time was long over due. Glad you decided to take the SBG Plunge....best move you probably have made in a long time.

I hope I dont cop a :x! for bumping, I still lurk now and then, but have had lots of crazy stuff going on at work in the last few months, this place has taken off like mad, so many new members and no dramas, kudos to the current admin staff.
Im still buzzing the zero with the clippers and it looks ok but not the best, I just cant commit to shaving yet, I have a very heavy beard and even after I shave I still have a grey shadow on my face, its basically the same with my dome, I only shave my face twice a week after letting it grow in quite a bit. Theres no way I could do that to my head every day.
On a cool note, in the last few months I have noticed a few guys I work with are starting to fret over hair loss, a few have started combing forward, some have even asked me what kind of buzzer I use, you would think I would find a question like that offensive but I didnt, I found it very amusing.
Im not totally Sly, but Im happy with how I look and life in general is good.
I hope you are all well.
-
:/O Wow! 2+ years shaving to a 0 and you cannot commit to shaving it with a blade? I'm guessing that you're not married either.
Dude, I don't want to sound like an ass, but WTF? Honestly buzzing to a zero is basically like shaving it all the way off. No diff, really. Actually, the difference is significant. With a shaved head, you have no annoying stubble, you're horseshoe will be less noticeable, you'll be a lot cooler, and you won't get sh*t from SBG's like me.
Look at it this way, if you shave it all the way and you don't like (even though there are a few thousand SBG's on here that know you will love it), you just need to wait about 36 hours and you'll be back to a zero. And by "zero", I mean no disrespect.
Do it! Do it, now! :Xo!
Okay, so I'm mostly joking. However, I really cannot see any reason why you wouldn't have at least tried shaving it in the last 2+ years of buzzing to a zero. Once you shave it, you're going to kick yourself for not doing it sooner.
-
Im not totally Sly, but Im happy with how I look and life in general is good.
You got the important part, i.e. happy with how you look--and determination and cautious approach are obviously strong points. I had started worrying about it before you, but didn't think I should sign up till I "Did the Deed!" Loving it Sly too.
-
Honestly buzzing to a zero is basically like shaving it all the way off. No diff, really.
While there is little difference from a visual standpoint, there is a huge psychological difference. Having that little bit of stubble, no matter how short it is, makes us feel like we still have some hair. What you are saying is perfectly logical, but emotions tend to get in the way of logic. I can remember the first time I shaved, and the realization that I didn't have a single hair on my head made a huge impression on me -- but in a good way.
My road to slyness was a very long and slow journey. It took me about two years of agonizing to even get my first buzzcut. I started at a #2 and worked down to a #1 over a period of several months and stayed there for about three years. I finally got down to a 000 zero and planned to keep it there for a while. But the temptation to shave my head smooth proved to be too great, so the 000 only lasted about 15 minutes before it was replaced with a completely smooth dome.
The moral of the story is that we all get there on our own timetables. That being said, I strongly encourage anyone who is comfortable wearing a zero-guard buzz to shave his head completely. Do it on a Friday night after work and it will be grown back by Monday morning if you don't decide to keep it. It's a fantastic feeling to run your hand over your head and feel nothing but smooth, bald skin.
-

Great way to try this--and if anyone here knows the trials and tribulations of going Sly it's RazorX, he did it w/o SBG--that would be really tough.
Another point you make is "daily shaving." It's not one of the top concerns we hear from guys, but it is frequently mentioned. I can't tell you how many times I was tempted to ask a guy w/ a shaved head if it was a lot of trouble--then I found this place and was assured that it was not only not a problem, most anticipated the morning shave. That's where I found & still find myself--it's "my time" and a cleansing time. When you walk out w/ a freshly shaved dome, well there just isn't going to be a better part of the day generally. And the shadow--we all deal w/ that until the hair goes white or mostly falls out. I had a tremendous bit of angst about it at first, that's passed too and I kind of like it now actually, it's a reminder to me and the world that I have dealt w/ mpb up front, honestly, without rugs, drugs or plugs. Proper shaving methods will make it comfortable--check out the thread on shaving routines--lots of good stuff there.
Again, glad you're happy where you are, but try it clean, smooth, to the bone Sly, you'll like it I think, like it a lot.
