I am not suggesting anyone else do this and, as always, consult your physician before beginning any new diet or exercise program.
After I quit smoking back in October of 2008 I packed even more poundage onto the extra weight I was already carrying. I am 5' 10" and had ballooned up to 213 pounds. Yuck! I SHOULD weigh about 170.
I've never been a breakfast eater; I have no appetite at all when I wake up. I have, however, always enjoyed a big lunch, a bigger dinner, and plenty of snacks before bed. I knew I had to make a few changes if I really wanted to lose the weight.
I still don't eat breakfast (I know, I know I should...I'll get there) but for lunch I now have a Mesquite Grilled Chicken Breast (available at Sam's Club). 170 Calories for lunch.
For dinner I just watch my portions. I'm eating about HALF of what I was before. It was hard at first, I always felt hungry. Now I not only don't feel hungry all the time, but I feel FULL on the diminished portions I'm eating.
In addition to eating less (and better), I have started walking/running every day. At first I just walked; now I run about half the time. I try to keep my heart rate in a certain range so I walk and run as needed. I started doing a mile per day. I'm now up to 3.5 miles a day.
Guys if I can do this ANYONE can do it. All it takes is a little dedication, a little motivation, and a lot od perspiration. Seriously. Just get off the couch and go!
I have 23 more pounds to go, but I am confident that, doing what I'm doing now, I'll get there and I'll get there while there's still some swimsuit season left.
Then I guess I'll have to work on my tan...

Thanks guys, but like I said:
If I can do it ANYONE can do it!
As proof I have been taking my 9 year old son with me a couple times a week. He's starting CONTACT football this year (he's been playing flag football since he was 4) and we're building his endurance. I feel sorry for the poor kids he lines up against...

Congrats on the healthier lifestyle pix. Very inspiring. O0
Like Tyler said above, I've gotta get back to a workout routine myself.

exercise and light meals in the evening do the trick...and water instead of soft drinks makes a big difference.
Now if I could only practice what I preach! (*!z@

Great job!
Remember to keep those habits of healthy eating and regular exercise as lifestyle changes and not just a short term thing.

Hey Pix - thanks for the encouragement. I have always thought that I was in good shape. I usually try to hit the weight room about 3x per week. I also enjoy running. IN the last few months, I had gotten slack about the weights and was not running at all.
Last Tuesday I decided I needed to get back in shape. Went to the weight room and could barely do anything. Got on the scales and it read "one at a time please." I knew then I needed help. I am now back in the weight room and ran 2 miles this morning - not in Olympic time mind you but at least the effort and enthusiasm are back.
I am impressed by your reduced portions at meals. That is so difficult for me.
Thanks for setting a good example.
