Title: Getting closer to pulling the trigger...
Post by: pixtaker on May 31, 2009, 12:41:25 PM
So a little while back I thought I was ready.  I thought I was ready to cut off my (ridiculously) long hair and go SLY.  I've gone through the 5 stages of denial over the last 16 months and I was going to go from one extreme to the other.

Then I chickened out.  I avoided coming back to this site for a while, I put it out of my mind.  I was regressing back to denial.  OK, it shouldn't be that big of a deal, but as many here know, it is...at least in our heads.

Now, after having my little relapse, I'm back.  I'm back and I'm about ready to pull the trigger on this deal.  I stopped into Walgreen's today and picked up some goodies from Headblade.  Tonight I need to pull out the trimmer to cut my boys' hair and I think I'm going to go head and do mine as well.  I don't know about shaving it tonight but, assuming I can gather my courage, I think I'll trim it short and then go from there...

Wish me luck.  When I do it I'll post pics.

Good Luck !!

Let us know how it goes, even if you just shave your head down to a grade 0 or a 1, it's a step on the way to going sly

Hey bro, it's like getting into a cold swimming pool.  It's easier to just jump right in than take it a step at a time.

Best of luck Pixtaker. Once you do the deed, you will wonder what all the bruhaha was all about.  I did mine on a whim and can't understand my reluctance.  I know you will enjoy your new freedom.

I did the buzz then the shave - i couldn't bring myself to just go full on bald - worked for me but looking back it probably (at least for me) just prolonged the anxiety -

Whichever way you to choose to go to sly there a lot of great guys here to help you along -

One legit concern I have is I am very fair skinned and I burn like a mother&#$%er.  I bought some of the "Headshade" spray sunscreen from Headblade but, obviously, haven't tried it yet.

I thought that maybe if I cut it short first I might give my scalp a chance to start getting used to all the extra attention from the sun.  Maybe I should make a thread asking about that...

I had the same thought, now since I'm living in the Pacific North-West any thoughts I might have on sunshine are uspect - but I found with the buzz I had to be really careful about not burning my head - with the head shave this has not been as much of an issue becuase of sunscreen

I just went through the two tone head thing myself - not the best stage, but it doesn't last that long -

It's actually much easier to protect your scalp when you are completely shaven versus having a buzz.  The reason being is that you can apply the sunscreen much better.  YOU STILL NEED SUNSCREEN WITH A BUZZ!

Don't let that hold you back, I'm a red head and burn like anything, all you need is some sunblock and a hat !

Just remember to re-apply the sunblock during the day - I've survived and now only go pale pink as opposed to going my usual brick red.

Welcome pixtaker. Sunscreen is a must either way, like Tyler stated.
It's a heck of a lot easier to apply without hair in the way.
Enjoy the freshly smooth dome!     O0
