Schick vs Gillette
« on: November 01, 2007, 07:09:30 PM »
I've been doing my own little experiment for the past week.  As many of you know from my previous postings, I have used a variety of razors since going SLY and really hadn't settled on any one.  I tried the Headblade, but never could quite get the hang of it.  I have pretty much been alternating between a Schick Quattro and the Gilette Fusion.

One thing I noticed is that most of the guys on here seem to use Gillette products.  Even the Headblade users tend to use a Gillette blade such as the Sensor 3 or Atra.  I really have not heard alot of talk about the Schick products.  So I have been doing my own little experiment.  I have been alternating this week between the Quattro and the Fusion.  And I must say that while both of these give a very good and close shave, the Quattro has been doing the better job for me.

It does seem to have a "stiffer" feel.  But the days that I have used the Quattro I have remained stubble free for a better part of the day.  And the bonus is that the Schick products seem to be quite a bit less expensive (at least in my area).

So are there any other Schick users out there.  I'd like to here from anyone else's experience and see how many other Schick users are out there.

I hated the Quattro; it just didn't work for me at all.  But I love the Schick Xtreme III which you didn't mention.  Before getting hooked on my Headblade, that is what I used.  The blades bend and flex and contoured to my head perfectly, giving a great shave.  I liked them so much that I got some Cryo'd version blades from www.greatrazors.com.  I haven't heard much mention of people using that website, but if you're a Fusion user, it would seem worth it to give them a try.  If you aren't familiar with Cryo'd blades, just go to their website to learn more.  Once I got used to the way the Xtreme III fit my head, I just couldn't get better results with a Mach III.  I do have to admit that I like the Fusion a lot, but I can't justify the cost versus the ease and results of my HB with generic Atra blades though.
How is that Hopey / Changey thing working for you?

Stew, I've heard alot of good stuff about the extreme 3.  Might have to give them a try.  I too just have a real problem with the price on the Fusion blades.  At their cheapest, it about $3/blade.  But you know, it is amazing what a guy will do to get that ultimate smooth shave.

I tried the Quattro when I got a freebie in the mail.  It worked OK, but I didn't like it as much as the Mach III.  It was just more difficult to handle or something, I can't really put my finger on it, but I wasn't really impressed with it.  I have used the Schick Extreme III disposables and they are pretty decent.  Nice to have on hand for an emergency, should you run out of your regular blades.
