Title: How to use the HeadBlade
Post by: Tyler on January 28, 2008, 02:51:47 PM
You're all excited because you just got your new HeadBlade, one of the best razors for head shaving. You rip the packaging open, pull that bad boy out and you head to the bathroom to try it out. Then it dawns on you, "How do I use this thing?" All the sudden the blades look enormous, it feels akward, and your knees start shaking in anticipation of what your head might look like when you're done. Relax! It's very easy to use and will provide you one of the best shaves ever, you just need to remember a few simple things.

   1. KEEP PRESSURE OFF OF THE BLADE! - This is in bold and caps because it is the main thing to remember when using the HeadBlade. If you forget everything else that is written here, remember to keep the pressure off of the blade. The blade is sharp and will do the cutting on it's own, so no added pressure is needed. Instead, keep the pressure on your middle finger (this is the finger you should have in the ring) and the finger over the wheels (if you have a sport) or the glider (if you have the classic).
   2. Use long, even strokes - Place the HeadBlade at the beginning of your hairline and glide it over your head, all the way to the end of your hairline. For example, if you start at your forehead you should end up at your neck without ever lifting the blade. Pick up the blade and move it over to the next line of shaving.
   3. Go front to back, then back to front - Or vice versa. The point is to shave your entire head sticking with the same direction, for example from your forehead to your neck, or neck to forehead. Then turn the HeadBlade around and do a second pass in the other direction. This will help you get the smoothest shave possible.
   4. Find the best blade for you - Not everyone is going to love the blade that comes on the HeadBlade and HeadBlade knows this; that's why they have provided an adapter for other blades. There are several blades that you can choose from. HeadBlade Doubles, HeadBlade Triples, Gillette Atra, and Atra knockoffs. These all use the yellow adapter. The other blades that can be used are the Gillette Sensor, Gillette Sensor Excel, and Sensor knockoffs like Personna. These all use the black adapter which should come with the Sport. The double blades from Atra and HeadBlade are loved by many, but have also known to wreak havoc for new users as they tend to be less forgiving than other blades. Give either some triple baldes a try or the Gillette Sensor blades. Just remember that Triples clog easier and may not get as close as double blades.
   5. Rinse Often! - Make sure you rinse your blade out after every stroke. This keep your blade unclogged for the next set of hair that it needs to cut.
   6. Watch the HeadBlade 101 video over at HeadBlade - http://www.headblade.com/headblade-101.html

Great tips Tyler. After a month of shaving I'm still going between the mach3 and headblade razors... although mostly use the mach3. I pulled the headblade out again yesterday and literally sliced straight into my scalp. No jokes either... my mum came over today and could not believe I had hacked it so badly shaving. And why?... all because I was rushing it.

KEEP PRESSURE ON THE BLADE and GO SLOW... DO NOT RUSH. For your own safety people!!!

And then once you have mastered it... you can do the hokey pokey.  O0

I'm yet to shave my head, but it seems kind of scary.  How come I am fearless when it comes to shaving my face, but when it comes to maybe slicing my head, I am freaked out?

It's just something new you haven't tried yet.  Probably like the first time you shaved your face.  Just go slow and don't use too much pressure, regardless of which razor you use, and you'll be fine.   O0

Why is it that you have numbness? I just shaved my head today after sitting on the fence for a lil while now and found the numbness weird.  :o Does that go away or will it always feel numb?
Oh and i triee the head blade but found it difficult and used my fusion but even after going over my head several times with it and Head Slick I still didn't get my head completely smooth. I thought I did but after it was all said and done I still felt some stubble in areas. Oh and my head looks like I'm wearing a face mask. :*))

The numbness eventually goes away; probably in like a week or so.

But the numbness is an awesome feeling. Its just that your skin isnt use to not having the hair on it....but be careful.....seems like once you have shaved....your natural radar is gone...so expect to bump your head from time to time.  Like me...I have lived in my house for over 10 years and have never bumped my head on the air ducts down in the basement....for a while there I was constantly hitting my head on it...why?? Hell who knows....guess im just not careful.

Welcome Ryebread!
Your hair grows at slight different angles, so some areas you will need to go up and down or side to side to get completely smooth. After a few shaves you will learn the best shave for you, you have to experiment.
I think by the third shave I pretty much figured that out and started getting quicker in my routine.
And yes, the numbness will go away soon and you will miss it.....
PS.. Bald looks good on you, great choice  O0

I don't remember numbness at all; maybe it was too long ago.  I never really had a fear of the actual shaving.  I knew I would have to be careful.  I was more apprehensive about the aftermath... what would people say (if anything); what would it look like being completely exposed?  Maybe the fears about the shaving experience aren't really there, CoryRudy, and it's the other concerns that are really making you apprehensive.  The only way to know is just to do it.  Perhaps you should do the gradual buzz to get your confidence up.  Good luck.

Thats true.  The first year or so I was shaving my noggin I was hitting it all the time.  Luckily over the years I've learned to pay more attention to the things I am crawling under.

My Wally World just started stocking the HeadBlade again.  Is it *REALLY* a superior shave?  I don't know,  I'm on the fence.  I have found that moving from the Wally World brand to the 9-dollar brand was a huge improvement.  I'm just not sure the HeadBlade is superior enough to make another change.  I need some convincing .. is it clumsy?

SlickShane, there is no doubt that using the HB can be very akward and can be difficult to get the hang of. Your natural reaction is to want to push down on the blade as it goes over the scalp and I believe this is the single reason why so many people give up on the HB.

I only had trouble on the first day I used it.  The most important thing to remember is keep pressure on the wheels.  Use it everyday and by the 2nd week I will assure you ...that you will have your own way down on how to use it.    Just keep in mind everyone is different,......is that right class??? lets repeat it....No one is the same...EVERYBODY IS DIFFERENT!  Very good....very good...lol....

Shaveme, Don't get hung-up on the headblade.  I've had the same experience as you and finally decided that it's just not worth it.  I know there are some guys that really love it, but there are equally as many that are just like us and can't get the thing to work for us.

Remember it doesn't matter how you get there, as long as you get there.  The Headblade is only a razor, and not the only way to a smooth shave.

Best of luck,
Rick

Shaveme, don't get discouraged, and definitely don't give up on shaving!

The Headblade is a wonderful tool for the job, as I always say, but it just doesn't work out for some guys. I have used it since I started shaving the dome (Aug. 2), and I have not had a problem at all. If you follow the instructions and take your time-go slow!, you should not have much trouble. There is a learning curve of course, but it will come to you. I first had trouble using my left hand for my left side, but as I said with time I now have no problem and I can get pretty darn close to the ears. It's basically about feel. I shave in the shower with no mirror. It feels very natural now.
With time you can get it too. Either way, don't give up on the smooth noggin!.

Not giving up XNY, just probably giving up the HB  ;D I love it for the top of my head, its the back and sides where it just doesnt work for my dexterity...and even doing it the right way (i think) I had to shave the same areas four of five times today.

I go front to back and then back to front.  To go completely against the grain on my sides would be to go from the bottom to the top, but I still get smooth enough without doing that.

I always start bottom to top right side, back, left side, then front to back right and left sides, and side to side on the back, then front to back on top, and then side to side from both sides on top. That's pretty much against and around the grain.

Yeah, this is what I was always wondering about too Tyler.  That's the reason I have had the love/hate relation ship with my HB this whole time.  It wasn't really the front, top, and back of the head giving me problems.  I would hardly ever get nicked up there.  It was the sides that were messing me up.  Especially behind the ear, of course.  But it's like I could never get the sides completely smooth unless I went up from the sideburn/ear line towards the crown of the head.  But doing this with the HB, or any razor for that matter, always irritates the crap out of that area.  So I've been trying like you said on here.  Just front to back, back to front all around and it has made things less irritated on the sides.  But they are not perfectly smooth if you know what I mean?

I know what you mean, but it's close enough for me because someone is rarely going to rub from your ear upwards and that's the only way it doesn't feel smooth.

Having shaved my head I turn the blades resp. insert the triple blades in the other way in my HB sport and shave my face.
Thereafter I do the round-the-ears-shave, cut the "earbrows" (like Marz said) and go over the temples from bottom to top against the grain. So the whole noggin is slick as a baby's butt.

I'm with KollegeKreed on this one.  I too, own, and have tried the HeadBlade, but it's just not for me.  Works great for the top of my head, but once I get to the sides and back, it just ain't cuttin' the mustard.  I'm sticking with my Mach 3.  I go against the grain all over.  I guess it's easier on top, since my hair was leaving me anyhow, but the ears....yeah, that's a real pain in the ass.  I aim for perfection all over.  True that most people aren't going to know if you're 100% smooth just above the ear, ect, but i'll do the "headrub" and realize that it's rough, and it will throw me off.  But, like Timmy said, everyone is different.  It doesn't matter HOW you get there, it's THAT you get there.

Hey parksie, welcome to SBG's! good to have you with us.

Good choice in using the HeadBlade, it is the best tool for the job. I know some of the other bro's have had a rough time with the Atra's too. Luckily, I don't, and they are my fave with the HB.
The Sensors are easier on the scalp in the opinion of a bunch of the guys here. I say use what works for you. Keep up with the HeadBlade and you will find it just gets better and better. It seems to me many guys give up too soon. Once you get used to the feel and movement needed for the HB, it's just becomes natural. Maybe then you can give the Atra's a try again. Also if you get a chance, try the HB doubles, they work well too.

Good luck, and keep it smooth!    O0

Scott, no apologies necessary. The ends justify the means in this case. If the Mach3 is your weapon of choice, it's all good.

Since we've all shave our faces (me for 30+ years), we can tell when a shaver isn't. I agree with you. The Headblade works great on the top of the dome but on the back my buck knife would be better. I'm going to try some different blades with it to see if that helps. It's only been 4 days but the smooth feel is a lot better than the lava rock feel. Tho the wife likes it on her feet. Don't ask how we got to finding that out.

I will just resort to the ol saying...If it aint broke...dont fix it.

The first time I ever shaved my head, I thought I would use a normal Fusion razor, however I found it very awkward to get the back of my head. So I said, you know what, let's try out this Head Blade. Fell in love with it ever since. I shave with the grain on the top and back, so the HB is easy enough for that. And then on the sides, I basicall go sideways, so like from my temples towards the back. No complaints yet!

I was sitting around the other day doing my media mogul stuff (drinking beer) and decided to try a modification to my head shaving, which I've discovered is every 2-3 days. I use the HB like a lawnmower (best description), slow strokes and then trim up with a Gillette Mach 5. Once you get used to the HB, it's 1 stroke and you have a 1 inch swath through the forest of fuzz. It seems to be the speed that you go has a lot to do with the number of strokes needed to get to smooth skin.

I'm thinking about building a 20 blade razor for the ultimate close cut.

Man, I toyed with the idea of getting a Headblade for so long. Tyler, you finally convinced me to try it out. I love it. I got the sport model and use the triple blade. So sexy smooth...
Thanks for the tips. I had it memorized and started the shaving with more than a little trepidation. But all the fear was unwarranted. Seriously, now. It was the easiest shave I ever had.

I honestly wish I could use the Headblade, I have one... the motion is just natural, however it's not for my head. Guess I have too many skull bumps or something, not sure. After the last gash though, (worst ever shaving incident) I'll never use it again no matter how much I want to give it yet another shot.

Has anyone had trouble replacing the blades? I use the Sensor blades, and I went to replace it today, could not get it to stay on the adapter. It kept sliding right off. Any similar experience or advice?

I found it a bit tricky to get them off, but putting them on was never a real big deal... I wonder if you broke it? Must be a fairly common thing since they sell replacement adapters in packs of 3 I believe.

Worth checking.

Wow I'm a moron. I had the adapter on backward. I simply flipped it around and bada-bing, bada-boom, we're good to go.  :/O

Hahaha... I guess I didn't realize there was a right and wrong way to put on the adapter, don't feel too bad.

EDIT
Ahh, I missed the Sensor part... those are a little different than the Atra's.

Glad you figured it out though!

The little adapter things wear out over time, which is why they sell replacements and include one with the headblade branded blades you buy.

Hey guys!  First post!

I've been shaving the dome for nearly the past couple of weeks.  I've shaved before, but mostly just for curiosity's sake.  Have to say, I do like it, esp right after the shave.  Damn, that's a smooth dome!

I was using the Mach 3 but found the motions were awkward and my arm would fatigue from holding it up in the air so long.  So, based on suggestions I found while lurking here, I sought out and bought a HB a couple of days ago.  First thing I did yesterday - hadn't even tried it out yet - was drop it it the shower and broke (what I didn't know at the time was) the adapter.  Rats!  Exchanged it for a new one and gave it a shot this AM.

Wow!

A little weird at first - totally different but a very natural motion for shaving.  HB came with a triple blade and the shave is MUCH closer that with the M3.  I was very conscious of keeping pressure off the blade and actually had to force the blade back onto my head a few times.  LOL  Hair grows a little weird in the area from the top of my head down to around the tops of my ears so, while I got it shaved, I found I was lifting the wheels to get the blade closer to my ear to begin the upward stroke.  Going forward, I figure I'll just trim up with the M3 after my main shave.

Much easier to shave around the ears though.  Using the base of my hand as a pivot, I flip the ear down with my thumb and just rotate my hand/HB from the front of my head, around the top of the
ear and down to the neck.  Nice!  Do the same in the opposite direction and it's pretty clean shaven!

Not a cheap razor at $15 (Canada, Shopper's Drugmart), but it does a nice job.  If any Canucks know of cheaper places to buy HB products (esp the adapters - I figure with dropping it every now and then, I'll be going through those), I'd love to hear your suggestions.  My local Wally-Worlds have no HB products.  :(

Wife is not so sure of the shaven dome (she prefers a bit of hair, like a #1 cut), but she did think this morning's HB shave felt kinda sexy so we'll see.   :D

Ok, because I've only been sly for just over a week and I'm desperately trying to learn how to do this right, I'm just going to ask....I found this short video on YouTube, is this really how smoothly and QUICKLY you shave with a HeadBlade?  He moves the HB so fast over his skull, I was amazed.  Is this the right way, or the wrong way, to use this little sucker?  I noticed that the founder of HeadBlade was there for the shoot, even in the video, so I am assuming that he agreed with the technique of they wouldn't have used it for advertising, would they?

Yeah, it's pretty much that easy. I have heard some people talk about cuts, but I go as fast as that guy but am more thorough. I go against the grain, and I spend more time feeling my head to see if I missed any hair. Even if it looks bald, I commonly miss tiny little strips of hair. And the back is ALL feel.
But yeah, I go really fast and have never nicked or cut myself with the headblade. I don't use their shaving cream, though.

Knock on wood, but going fast is the only way the Headblade works for me, if I go slow I cut my head almost every time.

Have the discrepancies in price been noted on this forum?  I mean i know wal mart is cheaper for most goods, but a headblade sport there costs about 10 bucks while the one i bought at walgreens was 15 bucks.  A testament to purchasing power or are all wal marts discontinuing headblades and just trying to move out product?

Hey Everyone,

So I took a day off from shaving today because I'm starting to get a few razor bumps. Not a lot, but enough for me to take the day off. Is this because my head is still adjusting to being shaved; or is it because I need to change my shave routine? I shave against the grain with my HB, and I usually make multiple light passes over trouble spots. I usually don't get completely smooth after one pass, so I have to go again. I sometimes even move the blade upwards from my ear to the crown of my head (that seems to be the region of my head I have the most problems getting smooth). However, I'm not getting razor bumps in one specific area. I have about 5 or 6, but they're just spread out.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Unfortunately the blades produced specifically for the headblade aren't available here. Do you have any idea with which cartridges I can use my headblade? Thank you...

You can use other blades such as the Gillette Atra blades which may be known as Wilkinson blades in Turkey.

1- is the headblade really worth it???
2- I'm usin the gillette fusion blade which is to my opinion the best blade...are they compatible??

The fusion is a good razor and will get the job done very well.  The Fusion blades are not compatible with the headblade.

I like to use the headblade it does have a learning curve to it, but once you get the hang of it you will get as smooth if not smoother than the fusion at a considerably cheaper price.  O0

Well said parksie, and I totally agree. Take the time to learn the HB, go slow, no pressure on blade end is most important. When you get the hang of it, it's quick and easy and feels natural in the hand.
On top of that, you'll save plenty on the cost of fusion replacement cartridges. It's a money making ploy from Gillette imo. If you want to shave with a traditional razor, the Mach III will shave you just as well, if not better.  I even prefer the Schick Extreme III over a fusion.

I've been a headblader for almost 2 years, I got the momentum and ease of use on the first shave. I've been without a headblade for a month ( the drivetrain/axle finally fell apart and fell down into the sink ) Ive been using the fusion, it's good to go but I burn threw those blades.....so today I ordered a no frills HB classic model, we'll see how that goes with the double blade.

The wheel on the sport annoyed me, IMO I found it impractical and not needed and eventually they started spinning in different angles....it was most likely me but I lost confidence in the sport, as a matter a fact I ordered a ghost when it first came out but I misplaced it...so I'm waiting for the classic.

Shadow, I use both the Sport and Classic in my rotation. I find I get the best shaves with an Atra plus or the generic copy, in either HB.
I was using the Sensor on the Classic, but I found It just doesn't work as well as the Atra. I have to make a lot of extra passes.
So right now I am using Atra's on both. I also use the HB doubles, and occasionally pick up some of the triples. Both of these work well too, and I've never had a problem with them.

Experiment with different blade combo's to see what works best for you. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the intel, I've heard that for the money the atra blades are good to go, the HB triples are what I generaly used and they were satisfying but I feel I can get a better shave with the doubles than with the trips plus they last just as long. Any experience with any other brands?

I 'third' that -- the Personna generics are what I use too... can't get any cheaper than that - for the price of about 1 Fusion blade, I can get 10 generic Atras for my HB.  I know those don't work for everyone, but for me, they're great.  By the way, did I miss something?... Thanks parksie.  I'll stick to my HB S4 -- I don't know why they don't bring that back... yeah, it was a little pricey, but it's a one-time investment, and it blows the doors off the Classic HB.  I don't know how the HB Sport compares because that came out after I bought my S4.

Got my HB classic in the mail today. Not impressed with HB double blades, I had to use more passes than i would with the triples or even the fusion, it also left my scalp with a few nicks and really really red plus the green strip fell off the blade. Gonna give the Atra blades a shot.

Still sly and still love the Headblade ;D. The only thing that I do diffrent than most people on here is this. I enjoyed how smooth the double blade made the head feel....but they made my head hurt @c3. Not good, did not have pimples, sores or anything of that nature. Went back to tripples and life was good. Went on trip and found a Ghost and Sport on sell and grabed them up. Had the idea do the top of the dome with the double and the sides and back with the triple. Seems to work well for me and the dome is not sore. I use Shave Secret with the Headblade shave lotion and that works great. Anyone else use this method?

The triples IMO are a hit or a miss with people and to be honest I dont think they provide the best shave, the doubles ( especially the atras ) get closer to the scalp but you have to be more cautious and aware because they will cut the hell out of more easily than the trips.......the bottom line the trips are ok but the doubles get job done. If you ask me right now whats better a HB or let's say the fusion or the new M-5 i'd be on the fence, still love the HB but as of lately the little adapters, caliper and everything have been starting to bug to hell out of me.

I find that it really is personal preference when it comes to which blade to use with the HB. Personally, I hate the HB Trips they just don't get close enough for me. I've tried Atra, Sensor and Atra knockoffs and I find the Sensor blades to work best for me. I get a very close, smooth shave with them and they last longer than any other blade I've tried.

I too, use Shave Secret with HeadSlick and I receive no nicks, burn or any other discomfort. I just love it. O0

It's obviously like face shaving hey...where you put on cream / oil / gel / whatever after a good rinse, then away you go ?  this has prolly been asked in this thread, but being 7 pages long, i thought i'd post the question here & now

what is this numbness feeling? can somebody please explain it, i don't know what your all talkin about'

Basically, it's just like face shaving, that's right.
The temporary numb feeling is caused by the intense stimulation of the sensors in the skin when you shave. It fades away as the brain is adapting to that sensation after a few shaves.

I sure like this here gizmo but find the triple blades clog even though I continue to rinse.  Any suggestions other than changing the blade each time?

Also, had one adapter bust. Is there a specific way of easliy getting new blades on without breaking the adapter?  I must be missing something.

Had to order new blades from the US.  What brandname blades can one use pls?  They said Atra Plus but mine didn't fit the adapter.

Thanks!

See this thread http://www.slybaldguys.com/smf/index.php?topic=10630.0 (http://www.slybaldguys.com/smf/index.php?topic=10630.0) for information about blades that fit the HeadBlade and the adapters.

The HB triples tend to clog more, it also depends on the gel or cream you're using. With HeadSlick it is harder to clean them than with a regular shaving gel, that's my experience. It might also be a matter of how thick and how long the hair is. How often do you shave?

To unclog any razor, I use an old toothbrush under a hot water rinse. It helps extend the life of the blades.

Nice idea.
Well I've switched from the original HB blades to Wilkinson Contact Plus double blades (mainly because the HB stuff is available on-line only here, plus it is a little bit pricey), and these have a little built-in push mechanism to clean out the space between the blades.

Well I think I'm determined to get a good shave out of this contraption.  I get a really close shave from the Atra II knock offs, but I tend to cut my self more.  I keep hearing about Sensor 3 cartridges so I went to Wal-Mart and couldn't find them. I remembered someone on here saying that you could take the cartridge off of a disposable.  So I bought a four pack of some disposables that had backs that look like the Sensor.  Don't know if they are the same as the Sensor Cartridges, but I think I might have found my new Headblade cartridge!  :@`  Plus they have these nifty blade covers that come on them.   O0

It's not for everyone... all we can ask is that you try it out.  Have you used the HeadSlick mentholated shave cream?  A lot of guys love that stuff, even if they use a different razor.

When was the last time you tried the HeadBlade?  Some people that didn't like the HeadBlade Classic or the double-blades love the Sport with the triple-blade option.  If you haven't tried those, I'd say give it another go.

But hey, we are fans of all Sly Bald Guys regardless of their chosen razor!  You all took a leap to shave it off, and we respect that.

Bulls Eye!  But, I'm getting a little concerned that the drugstores seem to be cutting back on your shelf space.  I know it's a battle, but the convenience of a run to the store beats the internet IMO.  Hope you can bring CVS & Walgreen's back into the fold.  Rite Aid is about the only outlet now, not even considering our friends at WalMart.

I like look of the headblade ghost but I get a great shave with double edge safety razor. Maybe when I get some spare cash I'll buy it. Definitely want to try the headlube gloss and shaving cream though

Keep at it.  This thing is designed to fit a half million cartridges.  I went through four kinds before I found the one for me.  I use mine everyday now.  Before I was strictly Mach3.  The Headblade is the BOMB dot Com.

Hello all, new to the site. Been shaving my head since 97, used balding clippers till about 3 months ago. I decided to make the full jump to using a razor. I say full jump because I have attempted to shave my head with a razor in the past with horrible results, razor bumps, razor burn, etc. I figured out my problem was that I did not continue to shave my head, if I had kept shaving it my scalp would have gotten use to it and it would have been fine.

That being said, I have discovered the HeadBlade. wonderful product that i'm sure i'll get use to in time, nicked myself nice and proper yesterday and today, I know its operator error and I know i'll get the technique in time. I do have a question for you veterans out there. Do you recommend Head Slick instead of shaving gel or cream? Does it make shaving with HeadBlade easier? Thanks guys.

Hey ruf, welcome to the site. Good to have you join us.
Try the HB HeadSlick, it really makes a difference. Stick with the shaving for the thirty day period and you should see a big improvement in the way your scalp feels.
Good luck and hang in there!     O0

I read this entire post, watched every guide I could find on youtube, read every article out there on this product, yet the HB classic (double blades) left me a bad taste in my mouth. copy/paste from my post:
Quote
Well, sign me in as a HB hater, what a sh*tty experience  Cry
I feel like my head is on fire, so many nips cuts razor burns and what ever! I know it's my first use, but i watched so many guides on it, think i got the basic stuff. don't pressure the blade, don't do it to slow yet not so fast, with the grain etc. I'm sure it could improve when i learn it's proper technic, but I'm actually afraid to use it again! with the Gillette fusion it took way longer, wasn't as smooth, not so comfortable with the hand, yet it did the job and i felt really good after the shave, while know i really feel bad! hope it won't look worse in the morning and everything heals quickly.
Not sure at the moment if i should give the HB another try, to bad for the wasted money, i will even switch to mach3 to make things cheaper, but i prefer to avoid this experience again.

don't know if i should throw the HB to the trash right now, guess i will think about it for the next few days.
if anyone had the same experience but it went well after, please replay and give tips on how to improve things using the HB.
I shaved after a hotwater shower, using shaving gel, by the way.

Small EDIT:
After i calmed down a bit, i think i realized the mistake i have done which caused all this cuts. I didn't apply pressure on the blade itself, yet many times i also didn't apply pressure on the back of the HB making it rise from my head, which i read will make the blade go right to my skin. does it make any sense?
also let my family inspect my head, all got impressed on how smooth it is.

I think there is a real learning curve to using the Headblade.  It takes a bit of time and patience to learning how to really use it.  One of the 'Rules" is don't press down, let it just glide, and that is probably the best thing to learn, and repeat to your self in the shower or where ever you use it.  I almost S_ _ _ canned mine, but now I use it and get close to the ears with a Fusion or Mach 3, what ever I have blades for.  But on the top and back, you are hard pressed to find anything that works as well as HB.  Before the learning curve is mastered, you're in for a real thrill, and as someone else, (Not me) said on the forum, the Headblade should come with a coupon for a free pint of blood.  Not at all out of line, IMO.  I shave with it with both hands, in the shower, and the worse I have done was put a 1 1/2 inch cut in my head, just above my right eye while changing hands with the darn thing,  and trying to go too fast in the hand-exchange.  Now that hurt, and I could have used that coupon.   A nice clean razor blade cut though.  Bled like hell.  Probably was my fault since I started the routine with the wrong hand to start with.  Like I said, there is a learning curve, and once learned don't change it.
Darn long post, sorry about that.

Headblade LOVER here - I started out the same way.

I have been using the Headblade Sport (with wheels!) religiously for the last 4 or 5 years now, and whip out my entire head - in the shower, using either foam shave cream, or Headslick - in 3 minutes tops. Completely smooth, no irratation, and no cuts.

Here is the major secrets -
1. Get rid of the Headblade classic - works well for me now, but beginners MUST use either the Ghost or Sport because they have wheels and make the whole "pressure" thing less of a problem.
2. Shave in the shower, hot shower - This not only helps the hair stand up as much as possible, but also provides some steam around your head in your shower, the will allow the Headblade so run smoother over your head, and be a little more forgiving for you if you do slip up a little bit.
3. Try different shaving creams. I personally use Old Spice Foaming Shaving cream with aloe vera, really really cheap, and has worked very well. From time to time I will use/buy Headslick by Headblade. Fairly inexpensive ($6-7) but is well worth it. The reason I don't use it everytime, as it is not the best for the shower. It is typically a thinner "gel" like substance, and will run off your head quite easily  - again why I like the foam.

4. Make sure to use a good aftershave/lotion. I use Neutrogena moisturizing lotion, but have recently starting using Headblade Matte Moisturizing lotion with SPF 30.

Hope these tips help you out, and feel free to shoot me a direct message if you have any others I can help you with! Happy shaving and welcome aboard!

Thanks for the tips, but after using the HB for the second time earlier today, i can honestly say i don't want to touch that thing any more  :(.
Just to clear things up and being fair about this product, according to it's reviews and people's comments, it looks like a great one! as for me personally, I'm sure i can make it work with a few more tries and enjoy it like the rest, but i see no reason for me to do that when i can use Gillette/mach3 and get the nearly same results with just a little longer time, without any cuts and burns. Just heads up for who's buying it for the first time, don't buy the classic version, as you see it's not so forgiving to new users and every small mistake will cost you a big cut!

As has been mentioned already, slow and steady is the best way to go with the HB Sport. Best to do it when you are calm and collected.

I've tried other razors but find that, for the most part, the handle forces me to hold it at an uncomfortable angle. It all comes down to personal preference.

It takes repeated use until you get into the groove.  I now shave my head 6 days a week with the Sport.  Sure, ya get the odd nic here and there but only once in awhile.

It took the HB Sport to make me a Headblader for life.

What can I say, if you can't make the HB work for you, don't use it.  Maybe they'll come out with a 4 or 5 blade adapter sometime in the future and that will work for ya.  For me, wheels and three blades did the trick.
Title: Re: How to use the HeadBlade
Post by: phigg on August 27, 2010, 09:02:39 AM
I started using a HB right off the bat, the first head shave I ever did.  It worked well for me.
It was only once I started getting really demanding about the closest shave possible everywhere (ATG, sides, etc..) that I found it a bit limiting, but only on part of the sides.
I've only gotten nicked once, but it was minor, and that was my fault because I inadvertently started a run putting down the razor end to my skin first, instead of the tail end.

When using a HB, always start with the tail end down first (wheels if using a Sport) then let the blade contact the skin, and start the run. Do not apply pressure, or at least, no more than necessary to merely keep it in contact with the skin --like lightly wiping your fingertips across your dome.
Also,  lean your head forward to tighten the skin when shaving the back - any loose folds of skin there can lead to nicks or "catching"... not so critical for the top though.  (Though in my case, I have to be careful with that in the very lower back of my head, (even below my scars) because the neck muscle/tendon tends to pop out which causes an uneven surface as well)

For my headblade, I have to put the blade on backwards and pull the blade instead of pushing the blade. I break out and bleed if I use the blade the way it is suppost to be used. I also have to use women's shaving cream (usually skintimate) because I have extremely senstive skin. Befire the headblade, I'd use a Gillette Venus or the walmart/dollar general version.

Okay, noob here. Used my HB for the first time today and noticed that where there are indentations in the noggin, it doesn't shave as close. I totally hear you guys when you say not to press too hard. Any tips for the dips?

Thanks, bros.

If you can tighten the skin over the dips it helps. You may find, too, that you have to make multiple passes in different directions. Just be careful to maintain the light touch.

I've got Sharpei grooves in my neck.  I just hang my head forward and my HB shaves just fine.  Every now and then there's a rough spot, but I've learned to just leave it alone.  If I mess with it too much, I get a nasty burn.

i found with my HB sport the only time i walk away with a nic is only under a few conditions

1.needed a new blade and tried one more scrape out of it.

signs that i need a new blade simply put the aloe strip is white almost every where.

2. went to fast or to hard.... Slow down and pay attention

3. not following routine in regards to my dry skin and watering the dome
eurcine cream, vitamin e, head lube, baby oil, others

So I'm finding the best strategy seems to be the HB with and against grain, then around ears and touch up with my Fusion. Still, even after much scraping, it's not a totally smooth shave. Is there such a thing? Never been able to get it on my face and neck.

Currently using the stock triple that came with the sport. Should I switch? My hair is thick and coarse and the follicles are very dense in spots. That's where the biggest challenge is. I'm shaving after shower, washing and exfoliating in shower, wetting head and applying HeadSlick.

What am I missing?

Thanks!

Try using a double blade cartridge such as the Atra plus, or one of it's generic counterparts.
I'm using the one by Wilkinson Sword brand name and it works very well. You can get them at Walmart.

Practice makes perfect...

When I started using the HB nearly 5 years ago, the blade came installed backwards on my Sport.  It wasn't I saw this commercial that I realized I was shaving in reverse.

So...if I could figure out a "technique" literally forwards and backwards, so can anyone.

BONUS:  I still sing the "HB jingle" when I shave... >:D

Ok, I have a few questions.

I have now shaved 4 times with the stock double blade that came with my HeadBlade. Is it too dull now to shave my head properly?

Should I go with the HeadBlade Triple Blade?

How about my shaving cream/gel? I use Nivea Sensitive Skin shave gel now, is there anything that could help me get a better shave with less irritation?

Thanks, all!  O0

I've been using a small dab of 'head slick' plus 3-4 drops of 'shave secret oil'.

If things seems to get too dry, I'll add 3 more drops of shave secret and water to lube up the head.

My head blade is still in the drawer, but will likely get it out and give it a first spin this week.  Still using the Schick hydro 5 blades.

Your sly head rocks. Maybe you'll be a trend setter at Penn State.  For a school that size, they need a few bald guys (other than professors). Keep it up. It looks great. Keep smiling to accentuate the shine on top.

The Headblade might not be for everyone, but I think it is a unique device worth trying and giving it a shot. You will have to shave for a few weeks as it needs a little practice. Soon you will work out a 'technique'
I can tell you what I do, it might not work for you, but it might help

Hot shower with exfoliant (I use the Headshed by HB)
Apply Shave Secret or Baby Oil on wet dome, massage
Apply Nivea Sensitive Shave Gel, sometimes Headslick
Shave with the S4 Headblade with Sensor Excel Blades
Relather if necessary
Rinse with cold water
Apply an Aloe Vera Gel or the juice out of the leaves I have at home

When I started using the Headblade I used the double blade at first, still have some of those but don't use them anymore. After, I used the triple blades, I felt they were much better, giving a closer shave
I than tried the Wilkinson, Atra, Personan blades, all ok but I ended up with the Sensor blades
So, you see it took some time to get my technique and weapons sorted

Agree with you, the HeadBlade sport, which I also use, does take a bit of perseverance.

You really don't need to apply any pressure. Though I tend too on the top of the head, which is bumpy. And keep the wheels flat to the side of the head and drive it along in long straight lines. Like mowing the lawn ! Once you get the hand of it, you can be quick. If I have time, I sometimes touch up with a traditional razor.

Been using the HeadBlade sport for over a month. I will stick with it. Had two tiny nicks.

Can also recommend applying the HeadShed beforehand which really makes a big difference.

I was fine with Headblade supplied razor. No nicks. Then had a nick when I used the gillette mach 3 with the Headblade.

From my own experience, you have to experiment. And be careful and gentle with any new blade. OK, so it might not be quite as smooth, but you are more likely to be spared the dreaded scalping.

For Baldchav and Cobbster, it's all about pressure, if find that it's impossible to cut yourself if you put all the weight on the wheels, and lift your front finger off slightly. I have been using the HB for 4 months and now I'd never consider anything else. As far as the closeness of the shave goes, the more you use it the closer your shaves get, at first I was getting some stubble by the end of the day, now I still have smooth spots the next morning.

Agree with you.

Just starting using HB and gillette mach 3. You have to be so, so gentle. No pressure of any kind at all. And still got a tiny scratch just above my ear. But what I did get was the smoothest shave. And because there was no pressure, that was no razor irritation.

Nearly two months of daily shaving. What I am noticing is the scalp is taking on a natural skin colour. And not looking like a fresh shaved white cue ball !

How many shaves do you get from the razor?

My hair is about 75% coverage (obviously not the front of my head).

Using a normal double-bladed disposable razor, I get three shaves until it starts carving up my skin lol!

Cheers.

I get about 6 to 7 shaves out of the Gillette Sensor blades.  I change them every Monday.

All the headblade videos I've seen have it going from front to back. That method has never worked for me on the sides; I find it works best if I go up then down on the sides.

I have to go every direction - some U-turns, a couple of illegal left turns and even a roundabout.

Seriously ... it took me a full 30 days to figure out the dozens of directions I had hair growing. And now ... smooth perfection.

I find that when I get to the ears, I remove my middle finger from the loop and hold it between my index finger and my thumb.  Then I pull the ear down and drive the car around those areas.  It works perfectly!  There is no need to use another razor to shave these "difficult to reach" areas.  I just keep feeling for the parts I miss and go over it again.  The headblade is a nifty little device that works like a bomb.

I get about three to four shaves out of the Schick Ultra plus or the Gilette Contour Plus blades, which I have found to be the best two generic blades.

Just took the plunge! Bought headblade off amazon along with some headslick to see what the fuss is about. Am I right in thinking I'm going to rinse head under hot water for a minute, then apply (how much headslick?) then shave away nice and slow. Any help appreciated!
Title: Re: How to use the HeadBlade
Post by: greatnessinc on July 18, 2012, 04:41:00 PM
You don't need a lot of headslick, about 2 peas worth should suffice. It's tempting to get those wheels going fast but simmer down Ricky Bobby, slow and steady. Keep the wheels in constant contact and avoid putting extra pressure on thfront finger near the blade. For the first few shaves maybe go WTG especially in the back of the head until you get the hang of it then try ATG.
Title: Re: How to use the HeadBlade
Post by: Frontier Guy on July 18, 2012, 06:38:49 PM
Yeah, 1 to 2 peas of HeadSlick (I'm frugal, so I'm more of a 1 pea guy). Rub it around and it will lather quite nicely.

I 'm right-handed, so I lather with my left and keep any residual lather on my hand throughout shaving in case I need a touch up. ALso, sometimes a few drops of water are helpful to revive the lather. Left hand also does the feeling around for any missed spots.

I shave only with my right hand. Some videos and several of the guys here use right hand for right side, left hand for left side. I tried it - and affirmed that I'm not that coordinated.

Enjoy ... and report back.

Cheers, all the videos on YouTube seem to be of people with already bald heads! So seems quite easy for them. Just hope with me being BBC with quite thick hair, that it will still work as good. Fingers crossed.

Hello Mark

It will work out fine, you will see.  Just experiment with different generic blades to see which one will sheer through your thick hair successfully.  I find the Gillette Contour Plus blades work brilliantly.  They fit onto the yellow adaptor.

I remember using mine the first time and watching myself grimace in the mirror in anticipation of slicing my head like a potato peeler, but these fears were unwarranted as it is a super little gadget.

Mark, it is just that easy. The HeadBlade is a great tool, and the best for the job in my opinion. Made to shave the head, it does it best.

I just shaved today after about three and a half days. I decided to use my good old HB Classic, the shave was excellent, super smooth!

Follow the way he does it in the video and you can't go wrong. Be sure to keep the wheel or pad end down, and no pressure is needed. Let the blades do the work. Take it slow and you'll have it down in no time.  Good luck!

Edit: just incase anyone wanted to know, you get a yellow one that's already on the HB, and you get a separate black one that will fit your sensors.

One word for both the headblade and headslick: WOW.

What a beautiful tool. Absolutely fantastic. Postman delivered it 20 minutes ago, and I'm now sat down with the softest most smoothest head I think I have ever had with ZERO irritations. What a joy it was to use the HB. I watched a few videos on YouTube so I kind of new how to attack it, I had no problems whatsoever. I'm just annoyed with myself that I let it get this long without me trying it. I was put off by the rolling razor as that was simply gash. This is the best razor I have ever had for my head. Thank you so much my fellow brothers for all the tips.

Mark.

On the HB sport the adapter just "hooks" around the ends of the razor (underneath the ends of the blade cartridge). You'd expect something more complicated, but it's remarkably simple.

Okay, I figured the wife spent her money on it as a gift, so I gave it a second try just before and WOW it went much better this time around. No new cuts or gouges, just a little sore from going over the 900+ ones from Sunday. I truly believe this might actually be my new way of shaving the dome from now on. I'm not to sure about the blades that came with it just yet. I will however give them a honest try.But this is the weird part i just found out by watching a video that i did it wrong. But it worked fine for me a lot better then Sunday,I have the blades edge facing the wheels and i pull it back anyone else do it this way? or am I just special that way? it just feels more natural to me and I did not rip my head up. Its how i would shave with my daily razor.

No problem. Try again tomorrow, take it slow, maybe try some pre shave cream/oil to really loosen the hair up. The razor will glide much smoother. Like I said it took me about 5 days to really get irritation free. If what your doing works well for you, then carry on doing that. Good luck.

Yeah, what they (BBCMark/Cueball7/Mark.H) all said ... blades forward (like a snowplow) with the wheels bringing up the rear.

The two FUNDAMENTAL rules (particularly while you have your learner's permit) ... go slowly, and don't put any pressure on it.

And, it's true that your scalp is going through a period of adjustment and will toughen up.

Tom, stick with it. Follow the instructions and you'll be fine. No pressure on the blade end, keep the wheel or pad in contact with your scalp and just push it along. Take long, slow strokes and get a feel for how it works. You will find it gets easier as you go.

Also, as you get better at it you will be able to get closer to the area just above the ears, which in the beginning is tricky.
I've used my HB now for five years, and never had any problems. Just shaved this morning with my good old HB Classic.

Hang in there, and keep it smooth!   O0

Couple of questions regarding the ATX and Sport.
Both are the same price. ATX uses a 4-blade blade vs a 3-blade blade for the Sport.
Can you use the 3-blade blade with the ATX or do you have to use the 4-blade blade?
I'm asking as it appears I can get the 3-blade blades locally at Walgreens but they do not have the 4-blade blades?

Is there really any difference shave quality between the ATX and sport using the appropriate blade?
Just want to make sure I order the correct one.

Thanks
Eddie

To answer some of the questions on this thread:  With the new blades and new ATX we've created a real mix-and-match scenario.

The ATX is designed for the HB4 and HB6 but, that being said, there are a few guys on this site that love the ATX with the HB3.  The new HB4 and HB6, though, were designed to work well with all previous HeadBlades.  My suggestion is to buy just the ATX, use it for a few shaves with the HB4 that comes standard...then hook up the HB4 and adaptor on your previous HeadBlade for the second test.  Third test should be the ATX with the HB3.  Then decide.

Personally I use the ATX and HB4.  You know I'm trying to make the S4 ATX as soon as possible because I miss using my S4 Eclipse!

When I was using the HB3 I could get about a week from it (generally changed it on Mondays, like Tyler).

But now I'm using the HeadBlade razor with Wilkinson Sword Twin Plus cartridges and I get 2 to 3 weeks from them. You need to try some different blades to see what works best for you. Everyone and every brand is different.

So I bought a new HB Sport today for $10 at Walgreens and thought I'd take it for a spin. I shaved the dome this morning at 7:30am and I started using the Sport at 6:30pm so about 11 hours growth. I took it REAL slow and only nicked myself where I recently had a sebhorric keratosis bump removed, but then I was snagging that with my razor too. Color me impressed, I must be one of the lucky ones because although it took me a good deal longer than the razor this first time by the end I was getting more and more confident. And this might be my smoothest yet! I used Shave Secret and Neutrogena sensitive gel. Turned out to be the right combo for me! Thanks guys!

I'm a huge HeadBlade fan. Just take your time ... and gradually it will become faster. But what's the rush? Enjoy the moment.

I'm also a big fan of the HeadBlade.  Currently using the ATX with a HB6.  I also have piles of HB3 and HB4.  I've used them all and each seems to do a fine job for me.  Not really too sure if a HB6 works better than a HB3 for me.  They both seem to do the job.

One thing that I have done, that works for me, is during my touch-up phase I hold the ATX between my thumb and 1st/2nd fingers.  I do this so that I can only have the blades contacting my head.  Now I know this would not be for everyone but I have found that on some parts of my head no matter which direction I come at I still feel stubble.  Holding the ATX in this fashion allows me to get the business end of the ATX at the right angle.  When I hold the ATX as described I'm cautious to go slow and just affect the area where the stubborn stubble is.

I like your HeadBlade attack plan, I use a very technique to get a good smooth finish.
Also I'd like to mention I found a good source and price of HeadBlade 3's but I'm not sure if the forum allows posting this type of info.

IMO, the ATX because it has more blades and you can use it in any direction with minimal or no cuts. my 0.02

For me, I get a closer shave with the Sport.

When I tried the ATX, I just couldn't get the pressure right to get an even close shave and I also had issues with above my ears. I tried the 4 and 6 blade cartridges and also the 3 blade sport cartridge on it and had similar results with all of them.

I just purchased the ATX, but haven't used it yet.

I shaved it last night with a Gillete 4 blade last night and it worked fine.  Did a little research then found out about the ATX and had to go get one.

Do you all recommend some sort of prep other than hot water before you shave?

I am a big fan of Shave Secret, sold at WalMart for less than $4 per bottle. Use 5 drops mixed in with your shaving soap/gel/cream and it makes for a smoother shave. It also can be used alone to shave. Oh, BTW welcome to the forum!

Personally I don't, I have always found that it makes everything drag more.

YMMV

Well, 2 nd shave today and took the advice on these forums and bought a brush and some shaving soap. Still used my Gillette sensor with 3 blades but with a new handle. All went fine! Shaved over the sink. Took awhile but no cuts etc.

Used a moisturiser then afterwards!

Maybe I'm a mutant but I rocked the perfect baby butt right out of the gate with my ATX.  I sat here for the rest of the night watching the idiot box and rubbing my freshly shaved melon.  It was nice.

I've been using the HeadBlade for going on a couple months now.  It was the first thing I picked up for the first shave of the head.  It is working pretty good for me.  When I let it grow I have hair down the sides and back pretty thick, but nothing but wisps up front or on top.  So I get about 4 to 5 shaves before needing a new HB4 blade.
The problem I've run into has been with the adapter.  It seems that after I get through the first blade, it's already time to replace the adapter.  I've gone through 3 adapters due to either cracks in the joint of the spring, or breaking the adapter off the body when trying to remove the old blade.

Am I doing something wrong? About how long are the adapters lasting for you all?  I haven't seen them available separately  which is what has me thinking maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Defiantly doing something wrong they have a video on UTube you might want to watch on changing the blade . I use a Headblade Sport and I use it everyday or every other day and have used the same adapter for over a year now .

Found the video and yep, I didn't notice the bendy side and was probably just forcing it on the wrong side.  That would take care of snapping the clip.  not sure about the flexy part loosing flex.  I'll try to take care that it doesn't sit on the suspension.  I have a a grandchild that may have gotten a hold of it once and may have stressed that.

Thanks.

Hi All. New to this forum, but have been enjoying it and find it very helpful. I have been a head 'buzzer' for years. I always thought shaving the dome bald would just be a pain in the butt and didn't want to have to deal with that every morning. Little did I know that it would be very easy, totally enjoyable, and encourage a state of zen not seen outside of a monastery. So, (back on topic), my decision to take the plunge was prompted by my brief research into the HeadBlade ATX. I grabbed the bald by the horns and placed an order for the ATX as well as various HeadBlade products (pre- and post- shave). Well, in my impatience to get started I decided to shave it bald with a Mach 3 disposable (in the interim between HeadBlade order placement an order receipt). It was so much easier than I thought it would be, and I found using the tradition blade/handle configuration quite intuitive and natural. Since reading the various (and varying) posts regarding the HeadBlade, I have a bit of trepidation about moving from an oft-used shaving device (Mach 3) to a very different type (HB). I really hope I'll love it. I'm so anxious to try it!! Based on comments within this post, I will be sure to give it a fair chance, and give myself a reasonable amount of time to become accustomed. I will post a 'newbie' impression once I've tried it. Thanks to all posters!!!

Dan J Mag,

I'm a head blade fan.  The ATX does 'OK', but my favorite is the 'sport'. It's an older model. I feel like the ATX is a downgrade from the ATX.

The headblade does it's job very easily and intuitively. My shaving hand gets less tired. The shave is complete in less time than with a standard razor. And it's just fun. Like playing matchbox cars on your head.

If you really get into it, they have mugs, hoodies, decals, and coupons for $1 off. I carry these in my wallet and share them with guys who might be willing to give it a try.

You look great bald.  Nice beard.  have fun when the Head Blade arrives.

Thanks, mrzed! I look forward to giving it a shot. Tell me, what is it about the Sport model that you prefer over the ATX? If I end up not caring for the ATX, I'd like to know if the Sport model offers alternatives to those aspects of the ATX that I may not care for.

They both glide nicely over your head.  However, the sport just seems to give a closer shave. My head feels smoother. The ATX CAN get down close to the ears better. To shave against the grain, you need to start at the ear and move up. With the 'tail dragging style' of the ATX, you can get closer to the ear. But most of my head is not hampered by the need for a tail dragger.

For some reason, the ATX, even though it has more blades ( i.e. more expensive), and seems to have more motion in the blade head, it just does not cut as close as the Sport model.

Both are 'cute', but 'cute' does not make for a very close shave. I think this is the feeling of most of the other guys who prefer the Sport over the ATX.

Well, I've been using the HeadBlade ATX straight for a couple weeks now. Like many other posters, I have found that the back-to-front and front-to-back motion with the HeadBlade is very comfortable and effective; however this is not a great tool for around the ear. The enforced placement of the device, as it is worn, does not work comfortably around the ears. At least not with the particular grain of my hair in that area. I have also found that it really does not do that great a job. It takes quite a few passes before it gets smooth. This morning, I decided to go back to the Fusion Proglide for a change. I like it much better. I find it very comfortable and intuitive, and it gets my head much smoother, much faster, and I'm using a cartridge that's a couple weeks old. So, I still have 7 spare HB cartridges, and unless my opinion changes, I will not be purchasing more. On the other hand, I quite like the HeadShed, HeadSlick, ClearHead, and HeadLube products.

I have used a Headblade for many years, Started with the classic and moved up from there. I was using a Sport to travel and keeping the original S4 at home but now have an S4 eclipse to travel. I had used the 3 blade HB for years and was pleased but tried the 4 and like them more simply because if I miss a day or two they do not clog up as easily as the 3's although the taller height makes it a little trickier around the ears. I have not tried the ATX although I have one, I will someday but for now its push rather than pull

Has anyone reconfigured the ATX to shave using the same pushing action as the older Headblade models? If so I'd be curious to know what you think.

You can use the HB3 if you prefer those, but it's still a pull not push. Whichever blade you use on your ATX make sure the blades point towards the wheels.

Thank you. Last night I attached the sensor blade and was going to experiment with pushing but looking at the angle UI could see that the ATX is definitely designed for pulling.
I'm determined to really give the ATX a fair shot so I'll keep at it.

ok so I got my best ATX shave last night. I did NOT put it on like a ring but instead held it like a Hotwheels car. for some reason that worked way better! very nice shave. I do always use my Mach 3 to get the odd spots I missed and around the ears but there were few last night. for what its worth maybe go the Hotwheels approach?

Hello this is my first post, I'm 24 years old and I have been shaving my head since February 2014. I have been using the Head Blade from the very beginning and I shave my head either every other day or every day. Everything was fine until a couple months ago.

When I shave I always start from front to back with the grain and then I only need to shave against the grain the back of my head and the sides. I have been following the same technique and I always was able to get a perfect super smooth shave. I like to keep my head as smooth as humanely possible. Recently though when I go to shave against the grain starting from neck going up I can not get a smooth shave anymore even with a new blade!!!

It seems that when I shave against the grain with Head-blade now it leaves patches of fuzz and it's really hard to shave them of because I have to press hard and it irritates my skin.

I'm confused because I was able to get a great shave in 15 minutes but now it takes forever if I want to shave against the grain so I had to just shave with the grain but I don't like it because it's not super smooth all over :(

Anybody had the same problem?

My experience is that the HB Sport gives a closer shave than the ATX.  Sport is still available online, but not in stores.  Both are the same price.  You can get a 20% discount if you shop via the HB ads on this site.  I'm told using those referral links also helps SBG.

Hello and thanks, I don't wanna sound cheap but right now I'musing Barbasol. In the past I have used the Gillette creams and Aveo but I did not really see any difference between the. My pre-shave prep consists of just washing my head under warm water for a couple of minutes and then rubbing the shave cream on to it.

I will probably get the sport to try it out since I had the ATX since the very begging but I don't think it's worn out or anything it should't be.

I've been using the HeadBlade for only a few weeks,(my first time using it),and I absolutely love it. Before,I was using clippers and shaving my head every two weeks or at the end of the month. When I decided to shave closer to the skin,I was looking at women's razors, and was pretty close to buying one when I came across HeadBlade on Facebook. I'm so glad I bought it,and I'm the proud owner of two HeadBlades, and planning to buy their Limited Editions pretty soon.

   4. Find the best blade for you - Not everyone is going to love the blade that comes on the HeadBlade knows this; that's why they have provided an adapter for other blades. There are several blades that you can choose from. HeadBlade Triples, Gillette blades, Gillette Atra, and Atra knockoffs. These all use the yellow adapter. The other blades that can be used are the Gillette blades, Gillette Sensor, Gillette blades, Gillette Sensor Excel, and Sensor knockoffs like Personna. These all use the black adapter which should come with the Sport. The double blades from Atra and HeadBlade are loved by many, but have also known to wreak havoc for new users as they tend to be less forgiving than other blades. Give either some triple blades a try or the Gillette Sensor blades. Just remember that Triples clog easier and may not get as close as double blades.
   5. Rinse Often! - Make sure you rinse your blade out after every stroke. This keep your blade unclogged for the next set of hair that it needs to cut.
   6. Watch the HeadBlade 101 video over at HeadBlade.com
Hey man. I've always been skeptical of gimmicks. Does this thing for for you?
