Post by: ar3inc on October 15, 2006, 10:59:25 PM
I just wondering how many guy shave in the shower, like I do, vs. those that shave at the sink.

I always shave in the shower. It's easier for me that way. Actually, I brush my teeth in the shower too. The warm water combined with the icy, minty toothpaste makes my mouth feel a lot fresher.

the shower holds far more advantages than the sink. the only advantage of the sink is the time involved is very minimal since you dont' have to dry off & reclothe.

advantages of the shower:
water stream powerful enough to quickly remove stubble/shaving cream from blade
hot water steam helps the shave be smoother
nothing better than a cold water shower after a shave, just for a few seconds but feels great

I shave in the sink, where I have a mirror and where I can sit on a chair, listen to some music, carefully apply the
shaving cream and shave comfortably.

I use an electric also, but it's one that is designed to use in the shower.

Shower, for my head, sink for my face since I usually use a straight razor to shave my face with.

I've tried shaving in the shower a few times, and I never did get a good shave.  There were always places that I didn't get smooth.  It also seems to take a really long time vs the sink.

i have shaved in the shower since the first time I shaved regularly.  I've only been forced to stand at the sink just a few times.  The constant flow of clean hot water and steam keep the stubble very soft and easy to shave.  It guarantees I'll have the closest shave possible.  My scalp starts to cool down and become dry while I stand at the sink.  To be honest each of us has to figure out which method works best for him.

I used to shower at the sink; never tried it under the shower because I always used shaving cream.

That could be a dangerous combo...yes?

Wherever.  Usually either in front of a TV or a computer in my house.  I have an electric shaver.  After I feel it and it feels smooth, then I go to a mirror, and look for spots that I missed and do touch ups there.

well, should I let one of my razors just rest on my skin, so no pressure, then it'll split it open and sink into it a bit.. that's how sharp a straight is. :) So, no, you don't want that to fall anywhere near your feet and you don't want to be in a slippery environment. (I shave with pants on ;) )

Yeah I would say that is sharp and scary. :-[

well, yes and no, it tends to be a matter of pressure and angles, blades are funny that way. :) But 1 thing I'll never do is grab after a falling razor(you really have to train at that, because you instinctively will ;D), better it broken than my hand cut open.

I change my vote to the shower.   So much faster and easier.

I tried the shower but I could never get my razor clear of hair that way. I have this crappy showerhead that pretty much tinkles on you so I have to find a stream of water to clean the razor.

The sink is my spot. I can rinse, tap and shake my razor after each pass, making sure I get as slick as possible.

Not even mentioning the issue that your shower should have more water pressure then the sink, you know you can tap your razor on the shower wall.  When your done you can splash some water on the wall.  Viola shaved it the shower clean razor, clean shower. :-)

Tried it in the shower but can't get the hang of it. Old dogs and new tricks I guess.

It's about what works best for you, anyways, so if the new trick doesn't fit you, cool.  At least you know you tried it and it doesn't work for you. ;)

Sure the shower will be clean from my hair but what about my lay-day's? She has long hair and it pretty much takes over the tub!

The difference is the speed.   It seriously takes like 5-10 minutes in the shower, because of the warm water and gel working together.   Plus easy rinsing of the blades.

Reminds me of the Seinfeld where Kramer installed the food disposal in his shower so he could prepare food.

I am probably a bigger fan of the shower than the sink.  I find feeling for spots I miss is easier than looking for them in a mirror.

For those who like the sink for the mirror etc.... there are some pretty cool fog-free mirrors for use in the shower.  I've seen them at Wal-Mart before and I'm sure you can find them online as well.

Here's a $20 one:
