Hi guys, Great group! I stumbled across this place searching for info on shaving my head this weekend. My dad has been shaved for years and has been trying to get me to try a shaved head for over two years. There are serveral freshly shaved guys on my football team this year so I think its a good time to go for it. My dad said to let my barber do it the first time then he will show how to properly keep it shaved. I was just reading all your posts from guys who have shaved. I just have to get that final push to go get it done.

jordon: welcome 2 the sly fraternity. glad that ya joined us. sounds like your dad is a smart man. why don't U invite him 2 sign up here, also. since... U have read all the headshaving routines do some research in the PRODUCTS REVIEW section of the forum (it's located under the HEADSHAVING section of the forum). i think that will B a "safe" 2 wear the slick, smoooooth noggin' by letting your barber "do the deed". that's how i initially became slick, also. remember... when U start shaving your own dome DO NOT use a cheap razor. anyways... keep us posted 2 your road 2 slyness.

Jordon, welcome to Sly Bald Guys! My brother always shaved his head for football season as he said it helped him keep cooler under the helmet.

Hi, Well to answer your question it feels strange really strange but still is awsome. I went to tne barber shop after school just before practice started. When I put my helmet on it was really loose so the coach had to add air. The really neat thing is that when I run I can now feel the breeze flowing through my helmet so its a lot cooler. Otherwise so far I hate it, I feel really self concious and naked but I kinda expected that. I think when I get used to how I look now I may keep it awhile.

Well, keep it bald at least till school starts...then you'll know if you hate it....

Yeah, it takes a bit to get used to it, but once you have, you'll likely feel a lot more comfortable. Get past your own initial shock to it, and you'll be far less self-conscious.

The change in appearance is usually a shock in the beginning, so try not to form any opinion about it for a while. Stick to the 30 day rule and then decide. I'm sure you won't be the only one on the football team with a shaved or closely buzzed head. And if you are, you won't be for long because I'm sure some of the other guys will follow your lead.
Try to keep it shaved for a while. If you can get used to being bald now, it won't be such a scary thing if you have to shave your head when you're older, like a lot of us have to do. O:O

As others said in here ... stay bald for 30 days and then decide if you want to keep the bald look!

I agree with the other guys, you should give it a bit of time to get used to it.
It was a more drastic change for you since you didn't buzz it down like a lot of fellas do at first.
I believe in time you will come to like it, especially being a football player. It lends itself to the look, and is a heck of a lot cooler and easier to manage.
Good to hear that your Dad was behind you too. That's usually one of the obstacles the younger guys face.

It will feel different for a little while, but I will suggest that if you sweat a lot, wear a bandana or skull cap under the helmet to catch the sweat. I played Football in the Army and played shaved it was GREAT. I dominated the opposing Team with the look.....gets in their heads!!!!!

I started razor shaving my head when I was 23. Had high and tight recon flat tops and no guard clipper shaves prior. Only regret is that I waited until I was 23 to lather up and go slick. Keep it smooth.
Never played football but can say that being slick inside a Kevlar helmet is a heck of a lot more comfortable than with stubble.

Hi Jordan, Welcome to SBG, good decision I dont play American football but I can imagine how hot it must get under one of those helmets!
