@BlueBriz:  Hi Brian:   I got the mirror finish, also.  This is just another example of YMMV.  If you
decide to sell it on BadgerandBlade, you will sell it quickly.

@Warhawk Today I paired the Mongoose head with a much lighter handle for the first time. From a Razorock model of some description. Got a wonderful shave!

Razor:  Weber DLC w/ Graphite Black Bulldog Handle

Blade:  Feather

Soap:  Jabonman (Brisa de Oriente)

Brush:  Edwin Jagger STF XL

Dessert:  Ice cube rub, refrigerated WH, refrigerated FINE Fresh Vetiver

Had a super, smooth, relaxing face & dome shave today.  The Jabonman shave soap is from an artisan soap maker
from Spain.  This soap is incredible and the scent is intoxicating.

SAFETY Razor Shave of the Day (SOTD)
« Reply #1220 on: February 14, 2015, 10:30:50 AM »
I have been VERY lazy.  It's been almost a week since I last shaved my head.  Just finished a very nice late morning shave over a hot cup of coffe and 70s rock on Spotify.

Razor:   My new (to me) 1963 Gillette Slim Adjustable

Blade:   Astra

Brush:  Simply Beautiful Badger

Cream:  The Real Shaving Company shave cream

After:     AcquaVelva Classic

Whipped up a great lather in my new shaving mug.  This was the third time using the Slim with the same razor.  I set it to 9; I was a little nervous, but came out unscathed - another fanastic shave.  Super smooth and all ready to go.

Head & Face Shave

Pre: Hot shower. Lucky Tiger Face Wash

Razor: iKon ShaveCraft #102 Slant with iKon tuckaway handle

Blade: Astra Superior Platinum (2nd use)

Brush: Semogue 1250 boar

Soap: Myrkviðr by Los Angeles Shaving Co.

Post: Fine Snake Bite

Technique: WTG-->XTG-->ATG/clean-up

Awesome shave! This was my first time using Myrkviðr. Very easy to load as I would expect from a croap even using my Semogue 1250 which is still being broken-in. The scent is not my favorite, but it is unique. It doesn't matter anyway because it doesn't linger. The post-shave feel was incredible. It was at least as good as any tallow-based soap I've ever used (I'm including XXX and Cella). The lather was dense and slick, but not so thick to get in the way. I'm still getting the hang of a smaller brush. I went from an Omega PRO 48 (#10048) which I still love, but I have a problem face lathering with the Omega on the side of my face. I have to essentially paint my temples. Otherwise, I get soap in my eyes. The Omega is still a very good choice for head shaving due to its ability to cover a lot of real estate. That said, I'm finding the smaller brush accomplishes the task just fine, but with more strokes.

This was my first use of the Fine Snake Bite. It might have a slightly longer cooling effect vs. that of American Blend, but it's negligible. I prefer the American Blend scent over Snake Bite, but I have nothing against it's capability of a warmer climate aftershave. I suspect all of the Fine line offer the same feel, but I'm anxious to continue to try them all with the sampler I received from Maggard.

About the beard balm. I have a van dyke. While the beard balm is quite effective at keeping the beard tame, the real reason I use it is for it's nourishing and protective properties. I tend to get quite chapped around my mouth and the creases surrounding my nares. I have found no better product than 1740 Beard Balm that completely eliminates this problem for me. If I skip just 2 or 3 days, I begin to get chapped again. I have their peppermint scent as well, but I prefer the coffee infused version. I can't tell any difference in performance, but I like the light coffee scent. It's slight enough that only my wife smells it when she kisses me, otherwise no one else gets close enough to smell it. They do use one of my favorite coffees, Death Wish Coffee. Specifically, I prefer Death Wish's Valhalla Java Odinforce Blend, but that's for another forum...

I was very pleased with this shave, and I'm very impressed with Myrkviðr. I made a point to have pork chops for breakfast, however, to counter the vegan formula.

FYI, Myrkviðr is pronounced "mirk vitter".  It's Norse for "dark forest".

Semper Virilis ... I like it.

That's a pretty cool mug, Mike.

I don't have a new photo to post. Still using the same equipment as last photo.

But the shaves are getting smoother. Yesterday I had a very nice smooth shave on the top of my head.  Still working on getting the back and sides smooth with the DE razor.  I end up finishing those parts with the Headblade sport, for smoothness, but my HB lasts a lot longer as I mow down most of the hair with the DE instead of wearing out the sport blade.

Really enjoying the Pinaud Bay Rum after shave. It has a nice scent, though it does not last as long as the Clubman does.

@120:  Nice SOTD pic, my friend.  Enjoyed the review, also.  BTW... I am a slant fan, too.
How do you like your iKON 102 Slant?  I have the 37c, iKON Slant (1st gen), and Lutz.  Welcome back and don't be such a stranger.

@Mr.Zed:  Hi Dan. . . you don't need any pics.  We are just glad that you are checking in and keeping us posted on your safety razor journey.  Glad that you are sticking with it.  Eventually you won't need the HB to complete the shave.  Keep it up, Dan. O0

Razor:  iKON Slant

Blade:  Feather

Soap:  Cold River Soap Works Select Sandalwood

Brush:  Edwin Jagger STF XL

Dessert:  Ice cube rub, refrigerated WH, refrigerated FINE Fresh Vetiver

For those who haven't tried a slant razor... you do not know what you are missing.  One thing I love about slant razors is that you can take longer strokes.  Gents... the CRSW Select Soaps are excellent!  The FINE Fresh Vetiver smells great.  One thing I love about it is that the scent lingers on you for several hours.

@ Mike E.P....very nice setup! Good to see classic Aqua Velva is in someone else's arsenal as well. Great shaving mug, too. Did you purchase it online? Would like to get one myself. Thanks.

Rob, I added the AquaVelva  after we chatted and you recommended it. So thank you! The mug was a gift. Sweet, isn't it? I believe you can probably get one at www.artofmanliness.com.
