Gents:  I'm really loving your responses and participations on the SOTD.

@BBCMark... I noticed that you haven't been using your Merkur razor.  Have you given up on safety razors?

@Bluebriz:  Brian... I'm so glad that I was able to a great deal on at Merkur 37C slant razor.  I have been enjoying it.

@Slynito:  For a beginner in DE razors... I echo Brian's suggestions on the EJ89L.  A beginner should go with a regular DE razor not a slant razor. JMHO

@ D o u g:  Doug... if I have to get up early in the morning (i.e. work) I shave late at night.  I stay smooth throughout my work day.   If I have to "rush" a shave than I just skip the shave.

This was last night's DE shave using the Merkur 37C.

Razor:  Merkur 37C
Blade:  Polsilver Super Iridium
Brush:  Semogue 620
Soap:  Mike's Natural Soap (Lemongrass)

Finished it off with an ice cube rub and Nivea for Men aftershave balm.  This was my 1st time using the Polsilver Super Iridiums.  It is a blade made from St. Petersburg,  Russia.  This blade is super sharp and smooth.   I plan I using this blade in the future.

On a side note... If you like the Feather blades,  I suggest that you try the Super Iridium blades.  Of course this is my first time using it but it is super sharp like the Feather.  Do I still like my Astra SP???  No... I don't.  I still LOVE my Astra SP.  If you combine it's performance and inexpensive price than the Astra SP blades will always be my go to blade.  YMMV of course.  However.... I just enjoy experimenting with different blades and sharing my reviews with you gents. O0

I'll have to try that. I didn't have time this morning to DE my face or head.  :-\ I got good shaves, but just not with my trust Merkur.

I was surprised this morning...I was in a hurry and just for the helluvit I washed my face w/soap 'n' water (cold) and smeared on some Burt's Bees shave cream and went to scraping with a thrice used Astra...WTG, ATG w/o reapplying and I got a DFS (Damn Fine Shave) for the little effort I expended. The old time ways rock!

Sometimes...  O:O

Humble beginnings...

Whipped in to a nice creamy lather.

This morning's setup for my face.

Doug,

Wow - I've never come close to making the lathers that you and WARHAWK do.  Mine are embarassing by comparison.

Today's SOTD: head and face at the sink:

HeadShed to exfoliate
Art of Shaving unscented pre-shave oil
Edwin Jagger sandalwood shaving soap whipped to comparatively anemic lather (see above comment)
One ATG pass on the head with a Gillette Fusion
Relather, then
Merkur razor with Merkur blade on head and face
Nivea Senstive After-shave balm

Result: BBS shave!  I shaved at 6:30 AM.  It's now 4:00 and I still have only the slightest stubble.

I've never been able to get especially good lathers with the EJ soaps,  although they smell great!

I tried a Merkur blade again today. It wasn't as bad as the first time I tried it but it still left me needing to do some styptic work post shave. It's just not the blade for me.

The Merkur isn't my blade either, Doug.

I just saw Dorco stainless DE blades on E-bay for >$9 / 100, postage paid....good price.

Has anyone ever used them?

Are they any good?

If you are having trouble... you must "taper" the water.  Add a couple of drops of water or add more product to your brush.  Keep us posted on your lathers my friend.

I had a zen-like DE shave this afternoon.  Since....I have discovered my favorite shave soap Mike's Natural Soap,  I have been neglecting my other soaps and creams.  So for this afternoon's shave,  I went with my favorite shave cream TOBS (Taylor of Old Bond Street) Sandalwood Shaving Cream.  I did a review of the TOBS last spring in the Products Review Section of the Forum.

I am glad that I revisited the TOBS.  I love it's sandalwood aroma.  It lathers like yogurt & provided thick cushion as my blade glided effortlessly.  TOBS is an excellent shaving cream from England that I highly recommend.  It comes in many scents and is a great performing shave cream.

DE SOTD:  Face (sink) &  Dome (shower)

Razor:  Merkur 37C slant razor

Blade:  Polsilver Super Iridium

Brush:  Semogue 620

Finished it off with an ice cube rub and refrigerated Osage Rub.  There is nothing like a DE shave.  I love it.
