I've been brushin' for years with boar and now a badger hair brush.

Does anyone have experience with the new synthetic brushes?

And btw this is a pretty good web site to find a selection of shave weapons...

After using my DE on both my face and head for a week, I dropped back to my Fusion for my head.  I was running late and have a mild sunburn on my scalp, so I decided on the Fusion since I'm faster with it and it's a little more forgiving.

Face (at the sink)
Pre-shave oil: Art of Shaving
Cream: HeadSlick
Razor: Merkur with Derby blade
Aftershave: Nivea Sensitive balm

The Derby blade gave a very nice smooth nick-free shave.

I too stepped back from my DE razor on my head for today. There are a few nicks that I just know the Futur would just open again. I opted for the Schick Hydro 5 as I thought it would be more gentle on some of my recent nicks.

Head (in the shower)
Cream: HeadSlick
Razor: Schick Hydro 5
Aftershave: Witch Hazel

Face (at the sink)
Pre-shave oil: Shave Secret mixed in with my lather
Cream: C. O. Bigelow shave cream
Razor: Merkur Futur with a Wilkinson Sword blade
Aftershave: Gillette Aftershave Lotion

Paradox: Life is a mystery; don't waste time figuring it out.

Here is my great DE face and dome SOTD:

Face shave sink & dome shave shower

Razor:  Weber DLC
Blade:  Feather
Brush:  Semogue 620
Cream:  KMF (Kiss My Face) Lavender Shave Cream

I had a BBS face & dome shave.  I am really liking the Feather blade.  It is very sharp and smooth.  This is my first time trying out the KMF shaving cream products and I am impressed with this product.  My Semogue 620 created a thick creamy lather.  The KMF provided great glide and cushion.  Is it better than Mike's Natural Soap??  No but this is an excellent shave cream that can be purchased at your local...The Vitamin Shoppe.  I can honestly say that this is a better shave cream than Headslick.  It lathers better,  provides better glide, and provides better cushion than Headslick.

Should I cut a sliver of the soap from the bar, and use the sliver in the bowl to create the lather?

@DCSlyOne:  Hi Darrell... that is what I do with the Mike's.  I just cut a portion of the soap and place it in my shaving bowl.  All the pics that you see when I use the Mike's Natural Soap is from a "cut" portion of the soap placed in a shaving bowl whipped up with my Semogue 620.

After a day's hiatus, I went back to the DE for both head and face with very good results!

Head and Face at the sink
Wash: Pear's Transparent Soap
Pre-shave: Art of Shaving Oil
Cream: HeadSlick
Razor: Merkur with Derby Extra blade
Rinse: Warm, then cold water
After-shave: Nivea Sensitive after-shave balm

The Derby gave a BBS shave.  In my (limited) experience, it give a great smooth shave with less "pull" than the other blades I've tried (Merkur and Astra).

Still waiting for the brush and soap to arrive so I can experiment...

A glorious shave tonight - face only:

37C slant razor.
Astra Blade
Boar brush
Cella shave croap (cream soap).
Witch hazel, 444 balm and Osage for dessert again!

Magic!

Think I've fallen out of love with the Cobra Classic.  It's a wonderful razor, but maybe not for me!

I've looked everywhere and asked family but just can't find my old DE razors. I guess I'll have to send off and buy a new Merkur or a Mick Jagger. Any recommendations?

Here's a tip that I've used for years...when I pack light for a short trip instead of taking my shave soap 'n' mug, I just throw in my shave brush. I can always whip up some lather with bath soap.

I'm a bit late, but I have both the Edwin Jagger DE87bl and Merkur 34C.  The EJ is better finished, and the head gives a less aggressive shave.

My Shave today was the EJ on my head, the Merkur on my face.  Both used Proraso cream applied with a brush, Derby Extra blade and Clubman a/s followed by lotion.

I had 2 days' growth on my head and 4 days' on my face.  Glorious shave.

Last night's late shave (about 9:30 PM):

Head and face at the sink:

Razor: Edwin Jagger DE89L
Blade: Personna Red
Brush: Vulfix 1001
Shave Soap: Mike's Natural Bay Rum (courtesy of WARHAWK)
After Shave: Nivea Extreme After Shave Balm for the Head, Gabel's Vegetal as the After Shave

About my shave:

Not so great. There could be several reasons why:
1) I didn't even get home from work until 8 PM (I left the house at 4:30 AM yesterday) and I was exhausted.
2) I had a Personna Platinum (Red) blade with a couple of shaves already on it in the DE (not one of my favorite blades but not a bad blade)
3) My head shaving technique is just not there yet
4) I went straight to the sink to shave... no shower first.

I think it's probably a little bit of all four. I'm going to go at it again this evening but with a shower first and a new, better quality blade in the DE.

Well, after three years I think I can safely say I've reached my apex of headshaving!  I'm sure I'll still have some bad shaves every now and then, but my technique with the DE has greatly improved since I started with it a little over a month ago, allowing me to have the smoothest irritation-free shaves possible.  The only thing I think I can improve upon is the time it takes to shave, but being patient and relaxed is all a part of the process IMO.  I'll definitely still be experimenting with different products, but the quality of my shave at this point really can't get much better!

Last night (2 days growth face and head, sink shave):

Razor:  EJ de89
Blade:  Astra SP
Brush:  Vulfix 1016 Badger
Pre-shave:  A few drops each of Shave Secret and glycerin
Cream:  C.O. Bigelow Premium Menthol
Aftershave:  Osage Rub, Nivea Sensitive Post Shave Balm

I am starting to like C. O. Bigelow cream more and more. I was intially turned off byt the strong scent that it has IMO. However, I've done a few face shave with it and had great results. I'm going to use it on my head next DE head shave. I'll report on the results.
