Gary,

The Gem 1912 uses a single edge disposable blade so you don't have to hone it.  I am getting 5+ shave from a blade.

I shave my face with either a Gem Micromatic Open Comb or a Gem Jewel, both S/E razors.

I have about 10 or so D/E razors, all Gillettes, but I am really pleased with the shaves I get from the S/E's so the old Gilletes are having a rest.

Cheers,
Lynchy Snr

I've recently converted to using my DE razor for head shaving.

Over and over again, who gives a sh*t what razor you use ??  Just getter done and the right way, with out alot of blood which should not happen if you are

I think I'm going to start alternating ATX & DE for my shaves.

I've only just started shaving my head, so far I've been using a Gillette Mach3 with good results but I'm looking forward to trying a HeadBlade ATX which I ordered after reading all the positive reviews on this forum.
Should have it in the next day or two, I'll be sure to post my experiences after it's had a fair trial.

I use a six blade shaver by Dorco, it's reasonably priced and I can get around 20 shaves from each cartridge before it takes too long. The cartridges come in four packs. I found that nicks happen when the lubricant coagulates and dries a bit. I use Headslick as the lubricant which is the best. I found the best technique for me is short strokes going over an area many times different directions not pressing too hard. I also listen to the sound when scraping the scalp and when the desired smoothness is attained I can tell. Make sure the sink water is off so you can hear clearly. Then finish with witch hazel applied with the hands or paper towel.

My girl loves the smell of witch hazel and shaving cream..  ;)

Mach 3 in the shower with water as hot as I can stand and shaving gel.   Used to do it before showering and always got nicks.

Well I've received my ATX, and I'm at day 2 of shaving with it.
Day one was good, took my time just getting the feel of running a mini All terrain vehicle over my scalp.
Day 2 and I've achieved a perfect shave, this little razor is just awesome.

I'm really enjoying the Gillette Guard myself, and RazoRock shaving soap with a nice new boar bristle brush (Omega Professional).   O0
