My experience is limited because I only recently started shaving, but I have had a great shave the 4 or 5 times I have shaved.  Though I do use a Mach 3 for the areas around my ears.

The main key is to keep pressure on the back of the HeadBlade, not on the razor side.  Also, when you're getting used to it, take it slow, don't hurry.

Here's a couple other links that have some good information also:

You must have the classic?

You can buy the sport at HeadBlade.com.  But, you may be able to just add a different attachment to add the triple blades if you're looking to do that.  That is also available at HeadBlade.com (http://www.headblade.com).

The most important thing and I think the most common mistake with the HeadBlade is the application of pressure. You can't put any pressure on the blade, it has to go to the rear of the HeadBlade

I've had my share of nicks with the Headblade but the more you practice the better you will get.  Welcome aboard.

a very informative video is located @ www.headblade.com, titled headblade 101

the headblade sport is also a class above the classic. the wheels on the sport almost make it impossbile to nick your head.

After originally reading this post I decided to pay closer attention to the blades to see how much hair they were retaining after a rinse.  Now, it is no Mach 3, but I didn't find it to be all that bad.  I do however use the 3 bladed ones, not sure if that makes much of a difference.

I've found that using the triple blade is more forgiving than the double blades, meaning you can be a little less cautious about knicking yourself.  Though, the triple blades do "grab" a little more when shaving, so it's easier if you shave everyday versus every other day.

That's why I dig on the Fusion with the 5 friggen blades, man

I dig the sound it makes--specially against the grain---...almost like scratching a vinyl record album.   "Zzzzzip.....zzzzzip....zzzzip"  ;)

I tried the HeadBlade now for the first time but it was more difficult then I thought.
The back was kind of hard to shave and especially the sides weren't easy at all. So I had to shave back and sides with a Mach3 again because I like it completly smooth.

I shaved on friday after a long time not shaving the head at all. Two days later ... today ... I shaved again and now I have some nicks ... damn.

But as you all say that the HeadBlade is very good (got the classic) I will keep shaving with it and hope that I get used to it.
Maybe it is just not that easiest when you try the HadBlade for the first time.

Hey Christian; I found that the first time I tried the HeadBlade it was a little difficult to use, but I also didn't like the Gillette Atra blades that it used. I found that the sensor blades work much better. If you call or e-mail Mac at mac@headblade.com he will send you the sensor adaptors for free. It just takes a little time to develop your own technique, I've been using the HeadBlade for a little over a year now, and I love it, especially with their own tripple blades now.

I must admit that when I first got the head blade I became very frustrated.  I nicked my head so many times I looked like I had been in a fight with a weedeater and lost.  However, after time, I became more comfortable with the head blade and it wasn't as awkward anymore.  Now I prefer it much more over mach 3 or fusion

Way to stick with it!  I probably would have given up after a few tries and gone back to something else.

By the way, welcome to Sly Bald Guys!!

I second the headblade thing, too.  the first few times using HB after the mach3 was very bloody.

if you keep the wheel (Head Blade Sport Model) and the plastic nub (HB Classic) in contact with your head at all times while you push the razor along your head, you should be nick free. It's only when the wheel/nub comes up off your head that I would think nicks with the HB razors would occur. There is a great little "how to" shave on HeadBlade's website.

I have tried a regular razor and the HB Classic, and prefer the HB, hands down.

Keep it Sly, you look great.

I shaved now for the fourth time with the HeadBlade. It gets better. Still have a few razor bumps but it gets better. Atm I shave about every three days because I want those bumps to heal a little bit b4 shaving again. Everytime I look in the mirror I am worried about how these bumps look but I am pretty sure that I get used to use the HeadBlade and also that my head gets used to be shaved again.

I am glad to read that a lot of you here had the problem with shaving the first times with HeadBlade. I just hate it when the head looks a little red, having razor burn and these bumps. Makes the feeling about beeing bald by choice not the best.

But as I said ... I keep on shaving ... and hope that all these little side problems will be gone by the next few weeks. ;)

Just found some older pics of me beeing bald and I remember that in summer I shaved nearly every day and had nearly no problems at all. Was using the Mach3 then. Guess I will get used to the HeadBlade, too. And it is much faster using it then using another Blade.

I've been using headblade for about a month. I cut myself the first few times I used it, once pretty bad. I cut my ear though, I was just being careless. There's a pic of it on my myspace, it's pretty funny, the amount of blood that came from that one little ass cut was unbelievable. Anywho, I am used to the HB now (I use the sport, by the way), and I love it. I use it with Gillette Sensor 3 blades and headslick.

Hey Cam;
You should try using the Head Shed before you shave, I actually use it before and after my shave and I've never been smoother, I'll bet your girlfriend will like it.

Im still under the impression that the HB is more hype than function. I have had one for a few years now and I still dont use it as my main razor. It just cuts me too much. The Fusion hasnt ever cut or knicked me.

If HB ever makes a version that can use the Fusion blade, I WILL then be a confirmed HB user. Until then, its more of a novelty that I WISH was perfect. I still support HB for what they are TRYING to do.

Really? My Fusion could never get me as smooth as the HB does. What I really wish is that they would make an adapter to use the Mach 3 heads, that would be ideal.

I totally agree with you!  I own an S4, and that totally blows the plastic HB's away, it still doesn't provide as good a shave as a Fusion.

I will add that my Fusion has done such a great job since day one, that I've never tried anything else.  It's amazing how close a shave I can get when I get all the rough spots against the grain.

Follow that with ice cold water on the noggin and my head shines without any glossy.

It's all about personal preference.
When I did have hair, I used this little plastic "brush" that had an adapter that went over your three middle fingers and you brushed your hair front to back. So, using the Head Blade was a natural manuever for me with very little time getting used to it.

For the record, I have shaved my head with a straight razor and found the quality to be comparable. I just find using the HB to be quicker and easier.

Again, personal preference. Regardless, the end justifies the means.
KEEP IT SLY.

For real?  A Straight?  Scary man, scary.

Do you shave your face with a Straight?  I tried using one but when I got around the adams apple, I kinda panicked.

I am a HUGE fan of the Headblade, and to the contrary, I find that when it comes to shaving down the sides and the back, it is a lifesaver.  ofcourse I do have the sport, which has delivered some of the smoothest shaves that my head has ever had.  I nicked the hell out of the back of my head with a regular Mach 3, nothing against it, I still use it on my face, but since I got my HEADBLADE, I have not nicked my head once.  its all about learning your own special technique.  Its like learning all over again how to shave, except this time you are shaving your head and not your face.  Keeps up, keep shaving, you will get it if its tough at first.  two weeks in, and damn, smooth as a babies backside. Hey Mr Clean, welcome!

Ya I just tried the sensor 3 blade on my HB sport this morning and was gliding across the dome thinking, man this is it when I nicked myself...  First nick with the hb though.  I've used the hb triple, the attra twin and now the sensor 3.  I will stick with the sensor, it is great.  I was just being careless  :-[
