Title: Day 1, Hurrah
Post by: rasakn on August 23, 2013, 11:30:18 PM
Booyah!

Haven't gotten out the razor, yet, but cut as far as I could down today with the clipper. I've been thinking about this for awhile and finally executed. I had so many fears going into this over the months -- and what an awesome feeling within seconds of getting down to the smallest setting on the clipper!

Looking forward to trying out this shave for the next couple of weeks, and then perhaps move to a razor.

If you're thinking about trying this out - do it. What a great feeling when the hair hits the ground and you're comfortable in your own skin. I've looked at a ton of different shots on this forum, and I think the cool thing is, you the poster probably feel so different with your new look, but to me, you all look damn good as though you've been rocking it for years (and some have).

Thank the internet for this board.

Welcome! Feels good doesn't it? It's normal to feel scared to shave, but once the deed is done, it wasn't really that bad at all. Enjoy the forum!

Hi there, I did it because my hair loss trapped me in a corner. To do it because you want to takes guts! And you look great with no hair! I think even better. You have the head for it.

Hey, Rasakn,  Very nice.  A full head of hair and you've discovered the freedom of a bald head!  I'm there with you. We call it BBC (bald by choice).  You rock the look.  I can feel your enthusiasm. I was there a few months ago. I'll tell you it just gets better.

I never shaved anything for 30 years (full beard, full head of hair). Then gave bald a try. I love shaving my head nearly daily.  The smooth dome is a great look and feel.  Keep it up.  share your story again and again.

Welcome to the forum. congrats on your new haircut. You have a good head of hair to so you'll luckily be able to grow it out if you get bored.

Congrats, once you start shaving, it feels so good , you will want to do it every day. The biggest change for me was in my attitude and confidence. Taking a short break right now, but I can't wait to be sly again. I was BBC, yet I received lots of positive comments.

Hi there, I did it because my hair loss trapped me in a corner. To do it because you want to takes guts! And you look great with no hair! I think even better. You have the head for it.

Thanks! My hair has been progressively thinning in the middle over the past couple of years, but more rapidly this year. Every day its another bunch of hair in the sync after a comb. I picked up some finasteride (like Propecia) last August, but just couldn't bring myself to take the pills. Who knows what the long term side effects may be, you know, and all for aesthetic?

Yet I had all the usual fears - hair loss, or going bald would impede my success, love life, you name it I was thinking about it and moaning about it. I'm a pretty confident and typically rational guy, but thinking about this every check in the mirror was really starting to get me down. The other morning I woke up, saw a handful of hairs on my pillow and began brewing up negativity again. Finally, I looked over at my girlfriend and said "Today's the day. Lets head out and buy the clippers.", as I was tired of my own self loathing for "my situation".

I thought even if this looks terrible, at least I'm taking action and can stop brooding on about it in my mind. Being worried about eventually balding in the middle in a few years time, why not just fast forward and find out what all the fuss is about today?

Working up the courage to start the clippers up was tough, and I was expecting to be completely horrified by the results. But as the hair began to hit the floor, I was so surprised by how GREAT it felt. My immediate next thought - why didn't I do this sooner? All that brooding in the last year and a half, solved in 10 minutes yesterday afternoon. Not only that but I prefer this look.

Thanks, mrzed. I was curious what BBC stood for and I think you have a slick look, too.

I also read through many posts on these forums prior to taking the plunge. Some of these definitely changed my way of thinking and gave me that extra bit of comfort I needed to make it happen. The forum has shown me that its not unusual, crazy, wrong (insert oh my gosh what have you done to your hair word here) to try this. If you don't like what you see, just wait awhile... it grows back like magic!

Yes Rasakn it is a great feeling and relief when it's done isn't it. The time leading up was the worst for me. Might seem strange

to some but this lead up period (which for me was quite a few weeks) was the worst time ever BUT it was so worth it. I agree

too that pics of those on the site all look great. Oh and I waited way too long which increased anxiety levels ten fold.

Congratulations mate You did it. It took some guts at first but you did it and you have already moved on.

And all the best to you in the future.

Hey Rasakn,

Welcome to the forum and welcome to the clipper club! :)

I myself had the same issue, thin hair in the middle, bald in back, looked awful except when it was clipped short... and all the time it seemed shorter and shorter clipper attachments were needed.

There's plenty of great support on the forum, dig in and enjoy! I found great info out about products, ways of shaving, ideas of what to try etc. Personally, NOTHING beats the smooth skin after a hot, wet shave. It's simply awesome. I think you'll find that is the case for yourself as well, in which case you can trade in the clippers... for a shaving kit!  :*))
