Title: Has being sly changed your wardrobe?
Post by: SlyRunner on February 18, 2017, 05:17:35 AM
Hi Guys,

Just a random thought I had the other day.

Has becoming sly led to anyone re-evaluating/changing the clothing that they have or purchase.

Does shaving the head alter the structure or balance of the face meaning that other styles suit you better.

I've been finding that the tone of my clothes has probably pared down somewhat, so as not to compete with my shiny noggin.

Just wondered

M

Not so much for me, but I have heard a few guys state that with the confidence boost they got by shaving their hear and/or growing a beard, they made other changes such as dressing better, loosing weight, and/or working out more, etc.  The confidence boost is the real change.

It hasn't changed my wardrobe - but it keeps me motivated in the gym & with my diet.   As soon as I discovered I was balding - I got a gym membership.  Replace one attribute with another.  :)

Perhaps it's the style of the day, clothes are more form fitting now.  Particularly suits so more pressure to stay in shape.  Being smooth on top makes for a clean and progressive look.  This is me with my daughter at her graduation.

I used to never wear hats but now I do.  I wear beanies sometimes that are color coordinated with my shirts.  I have black beanies for my black shirts, blue ones for my blue shirts and so on.  I also have several fedoras I wear occasionally.  I have no issues sporting my bald head, in fact it's the look I now prefer, but I just think hats look better on me now compared to when I had hair on my head.  Also, I pierced my ears shortly after I went sly last May and now I have over a hundred pairs of earrings and counting.  Like beanies, they help accentuate a certain look I'm trying to achieve.  This may come across as an overly cerebral process but I can assure you that it is not.

I've noticed that I've been gravitating toward a "younger" looking wardrobe recently, such as skate clothes or even shopping in the boys' department.

good question. i wear mainly black, grays, silver, navy. not one for brighter colors although that may be a function of age, not my noggin.

What I have noticed is that I am starting to want to look less Beach Bum and more On Purpose. I'm retired and lazy. So I typically wear very loose board shorts and XL t-shirts. I actually do not own a pair of pants. It's never cold enough and I don't really care enough.

Also, I typically wear flippies unless I'm at the gym and then only will I wear sneakers.

Now, this is bothering me. Two things have started this change. One, I have shaved my head and keep this tight. Second, I have lost several pounds and am headed near my target weight. Being 53 and in the 180# range standing at 5'11" I have the shape of only a handful of my peers.

The shorts I'm wearing now I can put on or take off without loosening them. My t-shirt collection spans years of Mexican sunsets and tequila. I haven't updated this in a long time. So I think my next purchase of t-shirts will be colorful L-longs and start showing my shape off as I have worked very hard for it.

I think for me it's an issue of getting past my silly balding pattern and now that this issue is resolved I should clean up the rest of my act also.

Part of this is related to my medical issues which I should have some better clarity on later this month once some tests are completed.
