Title: red spots on head
Post by: BaldBlindAt20 on June 20, 2021, 04:50:28 AM
Hey, I am a new member here (though lurked since 2018)

I have a severe problem with balding, at 20 my scalp on top is noticably diffused and I know it will be only worse.
So it is obvious I want to shave my head, because then I will be finally free from the suffering of watching my hair die and it will be far more easier to come to terms with my early balding.

The problem that haunts me, however, is that my head is really diseased. There were many red, itching spots which cause pain. Is there a possibility, that having shaved my head, they will disappear? Becasue I can't stand looking at my falling hair; but also I don't want my chrome dome to look diseased.

Yes, it’s possible that shaving might improve your skin condition, but you should really see a doctor and get a proper diagnosis. Then you’ll know what you’re dealing with and the best way to treat it.

Yeah, tomorrow I go for a skin biopsy. The most fucking me up part is that I thought I could shave already and now I have to wait to September probably, having hair (especially my hair) is driving me nuts

For decades I had red spots, like a bad acne mostly on the back of my head. When I first shaved my head, the condition cleared up in a few days. As long as I kept my head shaved, no more problem. Whenever I attempted to grow my hair back, the spots came back. I went to a dermatologist, and she gave my a prescription for a shampoo and a lotion. Neither one worked. When she wanted me to take long term antibiotics, I said no! I think it's a form of folliculitis.

So when I went back to my family doctor, I told him about the dermatologist, and not wanting to take long term antibiotics. His advice was, then just keep your head shaved, it looks good on you!

I'm not sure you have the same issue, so shaving might work.

I personally wouldn't take the chance of letting a razor touch my head until that problem is resolved.  It's good you're seeing a doctor about it.

Yeah, for now I am still hesitant, only because of red spots. But the moment it gets  better, I shave my fucking head :D

It could be half a dozen one way or the other when it comes to shaving but I hope things work out for you.  Don't want to irritate what ever it is either.

I’m getting a red irritation on the back of my head after shaving. Any ideas?

@fsolomon75 , looks like a typical case of razor burn. When I started shaving, I used to get that above my ears. Eventually my scalp got used to it, and the problem went away. Two things you could try. Make sure you shave with the grain there for awhile, or use an electric shaver there.
