Need HELP: Razor burn with frequent head shaving!
« on: April 14, 2020, 06:13:18 PM »
Hey guys newbie on here but have been head shaving with a double edge razor for over 7 years. I used to have a shave routine with soap and first pass with the grain and second pass against the grain but over the years I started shaving without soap and just one pass against the grain. I don't even use after shave because I don't have any problems with nicks or razor burn that way. I usually like my head to be BBS (baby butt smooth) so I have to shave every 2-3 days. The problem with that is when I shave again 2-3 days later, I get a horrendous razor burn at the base of my neck when shaving against the grain even when I use hot towel and proraso soap with badger brush. When I shave with the grain I still end up with annoying stubble especially at the base of neck. If I wait 5-6 days before shaving again, I don't have this problem at all but at this point my hair has already gotten pretty long. Do you have any advice on what I can do to be able to shave frequently without having that razor burn at the back of my neck? I currently use a Merkur 34c with Astra platinum blades but looking to upgrade to a new razor and different blades. Any suggestions appreciated!

What helps me is pre shaving the problem area with an electric shaver.

Thanks for your response. At 2-3 days, I feel like the hair is too short for a regular electric shaver. Which shaver are you referring to?
I also realized my question sounds ridiculous. I am not trying to get recommendations to shave my head every 2-3 days without prep or cream. I am just trying to say that I have tried to shave every 2-3 days with hot shower and shaving soap before and it didn't seem to help. I can shave every 5-6 days without prep without having any problems. However if I shave every 2-3 days, even with prep, I do get razor burn at the base of my neck, so looking for recommendation in addition to hot shower and shaving soap. Thank you!

You can use an electric shaver everyday. I use a Remington triple head foil shaver. I use it dry, right before I shave in the shower. Seems that using a razor when it gets full will cause some razor burn.

Have you tried a multi blade cartridge razor?  It may be easier on your scalp.  I can do daily shaves with no issues.  I have tried twice a day shaves before, but had some discomfort with that.  I use a good quality shave cream and shave in the shower (warm and steamy), and shave against the grain.
