Title: Booking a restaurant for a date
Post by: Tyler on January 24, 2007, 02:31:52 PM
If you have a date with someone and don't want to spend a ton of time trying to find a nice restaurant that has an opening, there's a couple of services that can help you out.

The first service is OpenTable (http://www.opentable.com (http://www.opentable.com)).  I've used this service for about 5 years now and love it!  It's free to use and makes it very easy to find restaurants that have an opening at the time and date that you wish to dine on.  All you need to do is register, choose the city, time and date that you need a table for and it will list all of the available restaurants.  You even earn rewards points for every reservation you show up to, giving you the option to earn a free meal down the road.

The second service is one that I just learned about today.  It's calle PrimeTime Tables (http://www.primetimetables.com (http://www.primetimetables.com)).  This service looks to serve the person that is looking to get into that Hot Spot that is so difficult to get into.  Unlike OpenTable, PrimeTime is not free.  Instead, they offer either a membership with a discount on the cost of each reservation or you can pay a larger fee as a non-registered guest.  If you really want to impress that special person by getting into one of the local hotspots, this could be a valuable service for you.

open table is great for special occasions as well, ie birthdays, new years eve, etc.

You can use OpenTable to reserve for up to 20 people.  Though, I have a feeling that it may show that there is no availablity for that size.  Instead, use it to find restaurants that you may want to use then check the profile of the restaurant as it usually lists if they have private party facilities and who to contact to reserve them.

Speaking of restaurants, is anyone taking their lay-day or significant other out? Or are you staying in.

I was planning on making the dinner for Valentine's Day (was gonna try my hand at gumbo), but wife said that we'd do dinner together. We belong to a monthly wine club that provided recipes that were designed to be paired with the wine sent that month. We still have a couple of good recipes to check out.

Anyway, sounds like it'll be good food and whatever follows on the dreaded V-Day.

schro, gumbo is really easy. let me know if you need anything. Paul
Title: Re: Booking a restaurant for a date
Post by: schro on January 31, 2007, 05:42:14 PM
I appreciate that Paul. I get at least a week reprieve in planning.

I'm actually going to be on a short biz trip on Monday the 12th and Tues the 13th. Hopefully the boss will take care of all the dinner ingredients before the V-Day meal.

I think the gumbo experiment will have to wait a few weeks.

Yeah, I'm staying lo-key this year. There is this new Irish place, (not a pub) that I might try.

I have to stop going all out, becuase then how can you top yourself? I used to go buck-wild sligity-sly but then realized that if you always go to 5 star, what do you do on her birthday? Taco Bell?

my wifey-poo's birthday is next thursday (2/8).  My dad's comin in town to do some skiing.

We might take the light-rail downtown Denver....take a handsome cab ride (horse & carriage).

What's cool is when pops is along...I just reach for my wallet and it's, "Naahh, Rob, I got it."

Same with dinner  O0

It's funny how dads are like that...no matter how old you get.

My grandparents still try to pay the bill when we go out with them and my parents.
