Many guys do use beard balm or beard butter for control, and you can also get beard wax as well.  I have found that my preference is regular hair gel and a blow dryer.

I'm looking for some advice. This is the longest (length) I've had my beard over the past 18-ish months. This is the point where I usually get bugged by all the little flyaways and hairs that won't stay down and reach for the trimmer.

Any tips or tricks on how to tame the mane?

With beard hair being relatively thick and your length being on the short side you might not be able to control the hairs with anything.  Honestly you might need to let it grow more to see what it wants to become, and based on how it looks now I bet you have a curly beard and those can really look awesome once allowed to fill out.

Nice to see you bearded again.

From the pic, it looks like your beard hairs are curly... they are sometimes hard to control... but as RS said... let them grow out a bit longer, see how they do.

A little "beard balm" or "beard butter" might be just the trick.

It got to me so I knocked off about 8-10 mm. Maybe this time I'll let it go a bit longer just to see what it does. I do use beard oil on it but I'll have to look into some butter or balm as well.

I did a major chop back in January of 2020, went down to almost nothing... just a really short goatee.

I believe the longest I ever went was two years... and if I am not mistaken, 18".


I would like to see if I can just leave it, totally. See what's it's like after 3 years.
