Staying Sly in a combat zone
« on: August 03, 2012, 09:41:32 AM »
Yeah I am currently deployed in a pretty forward area, where there is pretty much nothing but this MWR where I am typing. I would like to go back being completely bald, but I have a very limited (and crappy) supply of razors. Mission and other factors lead me to not cutting my hair but monthly.

I would really like to keep my head bald, because of the unrelenting heat, but also it would seem counteractive because of the sun burns on my head.

Does anyone have problems like this tring to keep sly in afghanistan?

First...THANK YOU for serving!

Can a friend or family member send you a headblade or box of razors (or maybe a gift box from a few of us here on SBG)?

Second...do you use sunscreen? I do not go out in the sun with my bare head without applying sunscreen...and often more than once a day.

I have never been to Afghanistan (yet) but I have been to Iraq twice.....the razors sold in the PX were ok, but after a few days growth, I had to use clippers....When I came home on leave I went to Sally's and bought a straight edge razor which did the trick a little better than the combination of clippers and the cheap disposable razors the PX sold.....Are there barbershops in Afghanistan? There were barbershops that shaved heads in Iraq for $10. As Jason said, maybe some Headblades and/or other shaving supplies could be sent to you. Usually the headgear should be enough to protect you from sunburn....Good luck, take care, stay safe and thanks for serving!

If you can PM your mailing address to me I'll try to send you a HeadBlade razor and some extra cartridges. (Or any other razor of your choice.) It'll be the end of the month before I can do it though cuz I'm a little strapped for cash right now.
Hair is over rated.

Thanks for the thoughts! But my time over here is coming to an end. We have been told by the command to tell loved ones and friends to stop sending care packages. This is a good sign! I am actually the medic over here, and I have tried sun screen...But, as soon as I put on my ACH for a mission, the sweat makes the sun screen go into my eyes! I am gunna request a bunch of razors from my wife and friends next time I am here. I cant wait to get back and have the luxury of shaving my damn head everyday!

Let me know when yall are over here, so I can send you guys some packages!

God Bless you Bro. Stay safe. Hope that you are home soon.

I know that headblade has sent razors and blades to troops overseas in the past.

As a Vietnam Vet, I want to thank you for your service.

From experiece Headblade does ship straight to APO/FPO from their website. If they didn't I'd be a shaggy dude right now.
